You're right, and add more contrast between the elements on the screen. I change it and correct other problens and others elements like the sky of first stage and etc..
a updated the screens samples too, soo the new patch will be there.
First time seeing this thread, amazing work man! Have you done The Punisher already? That's like the one game that many have complained about the poor color usage.
kkkkk yes, i am but we have some betther things to do :p

kekekeke! Excellent choice!
This is a game that definitely needs a new coat of paint! Instead of a paintbrush, you will need a roller! :p
Data East was great on arcades but they did some atrocities on home consoles (like the graphics in that game or the SNES Joe and Mac port :p). That looks nice but maybe you could use grey instead of white in the wall.
What do you think Fatal Fury games' colors ? Fatal Fury 1 is a great port but the colors are a bit harsh, for example that purple sea, skin and clothes.

I've been working on this for the last couple of days...
I thought that Pyron's color hack of Joe & Mac still left some details to be improved/re-worked, so I decided to make my own version based on his color hack.
Here's a brief list of what you'll find in my version:
- Brighter color palettes (overall closer to the arcade version).
- A bit smoother shading for the characters skin.
- Items/power-ups/attacks with colors closer to the arcade ones.
- Better contrast between the foreground and background planes.
Of course it's also a matter of taste, but I do think it looks better and easier on the eyes through out the game now.
This is a really good port and color-wise I don't think there's much to be improved anymore, but I plan to try to fix/improve some other aspects of the game in the future.
Here's the link to the IPS file (required ROM: Joe & Mac Caveman Ninja (U) [!].bin):

Here's the screenshots comparison (I just modified Pyron's comparison pic, so it may not have the latest changes he made in his last revision):

Excellent work Barone, looks damn close to the arcade colours now. The mountains in the first stage look much better since they've been lightened IMO, and you nailed the palette on the the section with those rolling boulders well. The way we received the original you could be forgiven for thinking the MD didn't have the palette to achieve close to accurate colours, but it has to be said that you guys have proved otherwise.
I really need to get an Everdrive.
EDIT:Gotta spread some rep bro.
Very nice :)
If some requests can be said.... maybe you can give some love for Ghouls and Ghost :)
