I patched Final Fight CD (j) and CH v1 just fine and it worked perfect with (j) bios in Fusion but v2 made the game freeze when I did it (after intro of game had a black screen of death or Fusion would automatically close). https://ibb.co/dKKcgm It could have been the cue and patch I d/l that had errors. I knew how to patch upgrades hacks color and audio sf2 hacks or for sor2 etc for genesis roms years ago look https://ibb.co/bskjwm and even helped create Smash Pack 1.5 iso that is on iso zone http://www.theisozone.com/downloads/...smash-pack-15/ However Thief hooked me up big time, instead of typing a jab it seems (as it SEEMS that is what you did to me there because you don't like me which I don't care at all about but I'm sure you'll try and twist it and say you just typed that in general for emu people here even though I'm the one who brought up emu problems here, however if I'm wrong about my assumption then I apologize) he actually helped me which I appreciate. Things that worked on my Fusion on my old computer sometimes don't work on my windows 10 computer now, like I have to keep plugging and unplugging my usb Saturn controller in every time I start Fusion and set config all the time when back in the day I only had to do it one time ever (after installing Fusion) or SMS set controller didn't work until I re-d/l newest version of Fusion, some roms are now red screens of death, etc. My brain works fine, Windows 10 seems to be the trouble with Fusion settings http://www.sega-16.com/forum/showthr...-in-Windows-10 (which you know about and posted help for somebody) or roms or bins, with errors. Thank you to Pyron, Thief and everyone who helped me.
I have many sf2 demos, 2 seem to be different from 2000 and 2001 or so. Anybody want them or the already patched color + audio sf2 v7 2014 fix (I believe this is the final version correct?) https://ibb.co/gF5EU6
Alright, decided the upload all my color and other enhancements (like Altered Beast with both color + higher quality voice samples, and one or the other) Genesis roms folder. Anyone else having trouble patching these or just want their time having to do this saved, shoot me a PM.
Thank you, and I pm'ed you a folder too =)
I know you don't like me but I don't care, I actually think it is funny. (Now I don't have to apologize, you admitted your angle). There is nobody here I don't like as I never meant them in person to get an overall opinion of them of. So do you need a tissue or something, you keep crying and saying and implying you don't like me (yeah...and?) after you see me posting somewhere then you just have to say something negative. Save it. We get it by now. But nobody cares. Or...continue showing your true colors but perhaps actually stay on topic, this is the 2nd negative thing you did lately here that doesn't mention the topic at all (Pyron color hacks). Also I didn't realize typing a sentence (above post) reacting to your negativity (which you always seem to initiate) was a "long post" inside a paragraph about the actual topic ha ha. I look forward to staying here after my perma ban =) :D Joe isn't an admin no more so I won't get suspended or banned again and I'm not doing anything wrong to warrant any of that...so  Thanks for the folder Thief, did you d/l mine yet? I like a lot of your game selections, very good Pyron hacks in there. The idea of original roms and sub folders of alt roms was a good idea.
Again, thanks to everybody who was being positive.
Hey Barone/Pyron,
I was wondering if you could help me choose suitable palette colours for my games map?

Would be very grateful :)
Hi, i did two versions:
https://i.imgur.com/RRD4HGG.png
https://i.imgur.com/rRKRb7O.png
but i dosen't know your apeling to visuals, i can make a third one follow your instructions if you want
Both look pretty good IMO but I prefer the second one.
After one night talking to Barone about the qualities of the Super Hang-on port for Mega Drive he encouraged me to re-play the title again,
so I did it now on my vacation, but since I can not see anything that bothers me without trying to do something, so I spent more time altering the game than playing itself ..
Now I'm sharing with you, I changed the colors as usual, I modified some scenarios, objects, and so on.
I hope someone likes, examples:

And all the scenarios side by side:

The stripes on the roads (with no stripes) looks definetely an improvement! That's a welcome addition!
The different skies in the background look better too, soft and warm.
I actually kind of like the original colors Sega put in the MD version but then again I am not very familiar with the arcade (got to check MAME for that).
@Pyron: the objective of your modification is to bring the game visually closer to the arcade?
Hey everyone! I decided to give a shot at this color hacking and make one myself. So, I know this game doesn't get any love here and is basically unplayable on a standard, non-overclocked Genesis, but still, as a fan of late 80's and early 90's flight sims, I kinda like it. It is also the most advanced sim on the Genesis. So, here it is: MiG-29 Fighter Pilot.
First of all, the game is set in a middle-eastern desert warzone, but I hate how the yellow desert sticks out like a sore thumb. I loved Falcon and F-29 Retaliator on Amiga so I changed desert colors look more like those games. I also fixed the ingame map using incorrect colors for the terrain and tweaked sky gradient for day missions a bit (night mission sky looks good as is). Second - the cockpit. MiGs are known for their cyan cockpit so I changed its color too. This change also affected how the wings look when looking back out of cockpit, but thankfully these colors are close to one of the well known MiG 29 color schemes. Finally, I've changed the 3d objects colors to greenish cyan. Unfortunately all the 3d objects share the same limited palette (light grey in vanilla game), so I couldn't change only some stuff. I'd left buildings grey if I could.
Here are my references for cockpit and plane colors
And here are the ingame comparisons:
Before
After
The IPS patch should be applied to the "Mig-29 Fighter Pilot (U) [!].gen" rom.
Hello guys, I just started some color hacking and I need testing/advice.
After playing a bit with some random titles, I am ready to do a full color hack and the choice is one of my favourite games, still not touched by others: CADASH.
Here is a bunch of images, left original, right hack (sorry about the size)
https://image.ibb.co/cfGVFn/cadash_comparison.png
My goal is to make it more faithful to the arcade game, where possible, changing dark or dull colors.
This is an Arcade longplay, for reference.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-LcKbE2nGIg
This is the IPS file, it should be applied to "Cadash (JU) [c][!].bin"
https://nofile.io/f/JmmNaY7eyB9/Cadash+Tor+Hack.ips
Any advice on what to improve? What do you think of it?
Is it okay if I ask an odd question? Have you considered using the hardware scaling for RGB levels? You'll find that, in Cadash in particular, the darkest colours are nearly twice as bright on real hardware than the emulator you are using.
I tested the hack on real hardware yesterday, and you're perfectly right about the colors: they are brighter, but I still find them nicer than the original. I thought it was my TV, but that's an interesting twist.
I will read again the linked article, I skimmed it the first time.
Thanks.
Guys, I need help! I'm trying to do a color mod for Lotus II RECS but if I change any single color the game doesn't start. Black screen in both Gens kmod and Kega Fusion. Yes, I use FixCheckSum so the problem is somewhere else. The most funny thing about this - if I take my modified, non-working rom and change the colors back to vanilla values, it starts working! Maybe it's some protection in the game itself?
My advice is take quality png pics to use for reference, exemple:
https://www.arcadeicons.com/media/dj...cadash1a_l.png
Second tip is use a crt monitor or a well calibrated ips monitor for profissional use to color accuracy
In general the actual state of hack looks almost the same of the original with a brighter image.
Thank you Pyron.
The problem is I don't think there's not much I can do in the caves. The palette does not provide a brown similar to the rocks, and some of the pigs palette is shared with others objects.
So I just got it brighter, because even in my Sony Trinitron CRT it was still too dark.
Edit: can you do a quick&dirty job just to show me how to achieve better results?
Offset for walls of the cave: 4d8c
Offset for pigs: 4af0
Thanks :)
Use this master code (action replay) to disable the protection: RH9T-860T
You will need to convert it to offset and value to make it work.
(try this, should work https://gamehacking.org/downloads/GGConvC.zip )
Great, it works! But is there any way to remove the protection permanently?
Yeah, of course, you need to convert the code to offset/value, open a hex editor, go to offset, change to specified value. This is permanent!
In any case, the major work in case of Cadash went to the main characters, keeping balance in the colors without too much contrast and also restoring the red armor of the fighter. Also other characters were modified, giving brighter skin tones that were dark brown before. Unfortunately they are shared with the wood and many other objects, so I believe I got a nice balance. I also got rid of some purplish colors, so townspeople look better.

im not using my monitor so i think that can i improve a litle more the colors
if someone descompress the grafics i can do much more for tthis game
Mega Drive version of this game is a bit of a mess anyway. Without Ninja and Priest, it just isn't the real game!
A shame the TG16 version doesn't do 4 player, and that MAME can't do the networked cabinets.
The childhood fan of the game in me would love a four player Mega Drive version of the game. Multitap and Zero Tolerance Cable?
A shame that'd need an inordinate amount of hacking apart the game. May's well re-port it from the ground up.
Oh well!
Thanks Pyron! I really like your work on that. I will try to replicate it in my version and take note for the future.
Hacking the graphics would help so much, in the later village you cannot change anything, you fix something, you break something else.
Yes, and NO.
My objective is improve the grafics to looks more like the arcade, but i'm not trying to replicate 1:1 becuse we dosen't have the same assets and colors so if you try mimic something make for one artwork in other its dosen't fit well most of the time, so i do something closer using arcade as reference.
I agree that is a big mistake cut ninja and priest, but the md version is very faithfull to arcade, almost the same game feeling, sound, art.. but a rushed port dosen't make it fell how must be..
PCE port turning everything in a anime style losing the D&D astects and feeling of the game..
They did a lazy job in this game..
the pallete reference you send me have several blue tones that can be used on the water in this cave but they use the same shades of the wall.. WTF???
cause this i said if someone help and descompress the art we can fix this game alot..
another example... the mage boots using the same color of the robe instead use the staff colors like the arcade.. easy to fix re-editing the sprites and etc..
Hello, I've been following the thread for some time (I discovered it thanks to GameSack) and decided that it was time to create an account to at least say thanks to the whole community and specifically to Pyron, Barone, LinkueiBR and Stephane for the amazing work that you have done to improve some of the games that were part of my childhood.
Thank you for everything. :D
Hey guys! I'm doing Lotus II color hack and would like to receive some feedback and suggestions. Lotus III The Ultimate Challenge (on Amiga and DOS) is my second favorite Outrun-style racing game (the first one is the arcade version of Chase HQ) and I feel that Genesis version, retitled as Lotus II RECS is really a poor conversion. The only saving grace is remixed music which, imo, is even better than Amiga soundtrack. So I try to at least make the color palettes look more like the original. Of course there's stuff that cannot be changed by color hacks alone - all the sky gradients are gone, many details are changed for the worse, etc. I'd try to fix the graphics if anyone could help me on decompressing them (I don't really know how to do stuff like that). So here's my WIP:
Left: Genesis version, center: my version, right: DOS version (because fuck Amiga loading times!)
https://i.imgur.com/8Mrg4dj.png
The road pattern cannot be changed by color hack. Might require some more advanced game hacking.
https://i.imgur.com/ITufQnB.png
Making clouds darker was probably not a good idea, but this looks even worse with white Genesis version clouds. Too bad Genesis cannot do lighter grey.
https://i.imgur.com/rQYhq8p.png
Yellow tone on the road kinda clashes with grey one but it looks closer to DOS version. Maybe leave all the road pitch grey as in Genesis version?
https://i.imgur.com/MSBjZ6R.png
Kinda like this one. Too bad I can't turn the contrast down a bit. Also parts of the car turned violet because they share the palette with those thin road marks in Genesis version. I removed them by making them the same color as the road and unfortunately the car was affected too.
https://i.imgur.com/PCHMBpf.png
Not bad.
https://i.imgur.com/PQa5l5n.png
The rocks in the background have some weird pixels around them that share the palet with cloud. They should be removed by gfx hack but otherwise the result is nice.
https://i.imgur.com/v8lHyNr.png
This is a weird case of Genesis version having more details. They spent freaking FOUR color for the clouds, where it was only single color sky in the original. Also Genesis version uses more elaborate lighting effect where it switches to a brighter set of palettes for some milliseconds. In DOS version only sky turns white.
https://i.imgur.com/OWFO3e3.png
This required the least amount of tweaking. Just made the sky a bit brighter and switched around colors on one road "stripe".
https://i.imgur.com/FkKrrud.png
This one is bad. No matter how much I tweak it, it looks all wrong. Should probably leave Genesis version, just remove those road marks. Also one shade of fog shares palette with one road "stripe" and another shade of fog shares palette with the road marks. Painful stuff.
https://i.imgur.com/UkltyfK.png
This one has laughably bad clouds graphics. Requires gfx hacking.
https://i.imgur.com/o6IVY98.png
Sky color looks wrong but I've tried every other combination - it looks even more wrong. So I've settled with the one that's less wrong than the others. Also this area has some weird trees that share the palette with background mountains! Those are not on the screenshot but they are awful. Requires hacks.
https://i.imgur.com/C5FuSX3.png
Too bad I can't do the road a bit darker.
So, any suggestions?
