New trailer showing off some of the perfect scores:
I STILL don't have a Wii U!!!! Oh wait, yeah I do. Dammit I want that game. But can I bring myself to shell out $60? Been a long time since I did that.
While it may not last, Bayonetta 2 is currently ranked at #5 on the Amazon best selling games list, ahead of Call of Duty Advanced Warfare for PS4 and Xbone, as well as Halo Master Chief Collection:

The first two tweets are essentially correct, I think. I just don't really see how it's sexist. Is sexy imagery inherently sexist? Is it inappropriate to have anything marketed towards "horny straight dudes"?
Is Playboy itself sexist? I mean, I wouldn't be surprised if they did or said something sexist, so maybe. But is the very concept of something like Playboy sexist by definition?
Also I was slightly amused that he dug up BloodRayne. You might as well bring up Danger Girl for PSX.
I wouldn't even really consider the character as being aimed directly at horny straight guys. There's plenty of women that enjoy and love the character, as there are plenty of gay men and women who enjoy her and have no issue with her sexuality. The Playboy team up is simply Nintendo trying to reel in that hardcore male demographic, which they've been trying to do for a while now. Sure the marketing cooperation is definitely aimed at straight men, but I don't think the character is really aimed at that.
The character was designed by a woman based on what she thought looked good after all. The only input Kamiya had was "I want a modern witch who wields 4 guns and wears glasses." She had complete freedom to design the character however she wanted.
But I completely agree, there's nothing sexist about using sex appeal in ads to try and attract a certain demographic. Which is why I've been getting really irritated by this stupid Social Justice nonsense that's been creeping into the industry over the past few years.
When that comes up I usually just point out that there's an abundance of female oriented magazines out there. Heck there's even a Playgirl magazine. So if people want to say Playboy is sexist against women, I'd say all those women's magazines are sexist against men.
If someone told me they thought Nintendo (isn't it Sega, though?) joining up with Playboy was distasteful, I'd say Fair enough. But sexist? How?
On another note, I recently tried to explain the Bayonetta character to my sister, who is a gamer herself. I must've done a pretty crap job because she thought my description sounded distasteful (except for the high-heel guns, which she thought were awesome), but she told me that after seeing a trailer for it, that Bayonetta seemed pretty cool. I know it's just one woman's opinion, but I thought I might as well share it.
Maybe some of the people that don't like Bayonetta just haven't seen any gameplay? ;)
As a non-heterosexual (but not homosexual) male and admittedly possible feminist, I have no issues with the design and characteristics of Bayonetta, and neither does anyone else I know that play games, regardless of gender or sexuality.
Any 'feminists' who are offended by this are usually the ones that think sex appeal = objectifying women, but the women such as the ones that pose in Playboy aren't really being objectified, and the Bayonetta shoot really isn't that risque. If it was in EDGE magazine nobody would bat an eyelid.
Not to mention the whole 'targeted market' fiasco about horny men (ew), I could argue that Call of Duty is aimed exclusively at super angry teenage white people and paranoid right-wing gun nuts, is it? I dunno, but still.
Very well said Gogogadget. This is what I keep saying, people like that guy in the tweets are just hurting the movement by focusing on non-issues like this.
This is not even a case of "greater issues take precedence", that's a logical fallacy (incidentally, it's used regularly by feminists, but that's another topic). Bayonetta might be super sexy and definitely appealing to heterosexual male gamers, but she's also a badass woman (which should appeal to some female gamers).
And has everyone seriously forgotten this guy already?

Fucking hypocrites.
