Why the hell isn't anyone embracing it. The only 5.1 surround systems I can find, have only RCA input. That means you gotta go on Ebay, get a Toslink-to-6-RCA adapter, to hook up your PS3.
And those Toslink-to-6-RCA adapters are expensive.
This world would be a better place if those speaker manufactures just started adding Toslink ports.
I wanna play Red Dead Redemption in 5.1.
and pony up the extra cents it costs to buy the parts the 2 cents in labor and the 7 cents in licensing ?
let the consumer worry about that these thinsg have to be made cheap and sold at a large mark up
Ok, I feel like I'm missing something here, but most low end receivers still have Toslink, last I checked. I found one here on Newegg in less than a minute: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...0MJ-0023-00008

I use TOS Link with my PS3 and PC in the living room. It works great! Even my cheap Sony receiver has 2 TOS link ports.
If you're needing a TOS Link connection for your Xbox 360, you can get one of these.
Because most things assume you will just be using HDMI to hook it up and carrying digital audio through that.Quote:

Even vga ports aren't safe, I had a few that someone used a drill on and striped the threads so bad it took the mounting holes with it.

I'd bought my receiver thinking that it would receive digital audio through the HDMI ports. I didn't find out that the HDMI ports were just pass-through for your television, until after I had bought it. I would have taken it back, but it was only $200, had the 2 TOS Link ports (as well as a coaxial for digital audio) and over 100 watts per-channel.Quote:

Some are really odd about what they support over different ports. I'm shocked you can't find HDMI commonly, it's pretty much the defacto standard for A/V hookups for quite a few years now.
What are you talking about? Maybe, back in 2003. Even the cheap-ass crap from walmart has digital inputs (no analog inputs for greater than stereo input). Some of the cheaper decks might have digital audio over hdmi, but it's still digital audio. Any deck starting at $150 and up (standalone, no speakers included/bundled) should have an optical input besides HDMI.Quote:
