The Alpha/Zero visual style is very lower-color friendly. I did an Alpha 2 mockup several years ago that has been posted once or twice on here.
so would it be fair to say now that more colours than scaling?
would it have been better for sega then to have made the mega cd sega cd more colours and dropped the scaling?
I agree. In the years that I was playing on my Megadrive I can honestly say that I never considered the machine deficient in any area. It never really bothered me that the SNES had those extra colours or the extra fancy effects like the mode 7 etc. The Megadrive could match a number of those effects anyway in software. Before I had my Megadrive I had a Sinclair ZX Spectrum 48K and a borrowed monochrome Amstrad PC, so when I got my Mega drive it pretty much blew my mind with the quality of the graphics and the speed of the games.
I think the Mega Drive needed a 1.000.000 colors palette, a 200 mhz processor and HDMI output.
Snes outsold the MD because of Japan and after the 16-bit generation was over, when the Playstation and Saturn were already out. The MD outsold the Snes in America and Europe.
Sorry I disagree, having those extra things only serve as bullet points on a spec sheet and its really only the fanboys care about spec sheets, I doubt there would have been a huge increase in sales solely because of that. Anyway the only reason The Genesis didn't beat the SNES in the US is because Sega dropped the Genesis like a hot potato after launching the Saturn (mostly because SOJ didn't give a toss about the MegaDrive after they failed to make any headway in Japan with it) and Nintendo carried on pushing the SNES right up to the N64's launch. As for Capcom and Konami, they were always staunch Nintendo loyalists at the time and I doubt they were ever going to give developing on the Megadrive/Genesis a fair go.
Looks like the Genesis won then, even without those fancy SNES colours and effects.
Meh, some stages are easy while others are almost impossible.
I converted this stage at one point and it was easy,
but the others.. ugh horribly detailed, and you still need to save colors for the HUD so 90% of it just loses a huge amount of detail.
Still possible, but you'll lose quite a bit of detail.
It's called Mega Drive in my part of America.

For christs sake couldn't you guys get a rough estimate from the parrots, that a bigger master palette would help alot too? I was hoping we could ignore the 4 subpalettes of 16 colours shared for sprites/tiles, and still get a rough idea
I think both sub-palettes and master palette should've been bigger, even if that means a small upgrade for both like 80/1024 colours. The 7800 had a 256 colour palette in 1984.
Is Tomaitheous a Scandinavian version of Thomas? I get that idea because Matthaus is a Scandinavian version of Matthew.
We call ourselves Americans because United Statesians sounds stupid. It wouldn't work either because Mexico is officially titled Estados Unidos Mexicanos.
So if you want to be really serious and anal about it we're not even the only United States in America. :lol:
Usually when someone wants to refer to the continents in English they call them, "the Americas."
But technically you're not wrong our anything. You can thank our founding fathers for the confusion thanks to not coming up with a cooler name.
I vote "Eagleland."
Maybe:
America = USA
Americans = USA
Americas = North, South, Central America
Its fucked, but thats just how it seems around here.
