Being better at that shit than most, I was almost always done by lunch or shortly after. So I'd usually have a 30 hour work week at most but still be paid full time. It was also super close to my house, the research campus was gorgeous, and their cafe was subsidized and ridiculous good quality.
Was probably one of the single best jobs ever, and worked with some awesome people too.
Worst job.
After the tech bubble burst and I'd been laid off of jobs downsizing or outright vanishing I had to take a job at Circuit City.
I'm not a salesman, I don't like blatantly lying to people or being a weasily son of a bitch just to try and get people to spend more money. The department managers were all terrified of the store manager because he was constantly on their asses to get the numbers he wanted. It was "against" policy to lie about things or cherry pick customers. But those who did both of those things got the numbers they wanted (high service contract sales and accessory attach rates). The fact that they sold next to no volume at all because they would routinely send customers to other sales associates or just avoid them was overlooked 100% of the time. Add in shady shit like moving around worked hours you had already worked to avoid OT, shifting the schedule at last minute, and the bosses generally being complete tools and it completed the shit sandwich that was that job.
I felt like shit after every shift, I dreaded going in every time I had one, and it made me despise working with people. I got fired for straight up bullshit and didn't even care beyond it being bullshit. I sold more than anyone in the store, but with low attach/accessory rate. Even though by raw numbers I still sold more than other people with "good" numbers, the percentages looked bad to them. So they began cutting my shifts down to almost nothing, and moving me to crappy times of day (middle of the week during the day, etc). All so that my numbers could look like crap across the board and give them an excuse.
