Being disappointed with the latest Michael Bay movie I decided to run a nostalgia trip and play through all the classic TMNT games, sans the Gameboy titles. NES TMNT platformer game is still my favorite one due to being based on the original comic visually but the beat 'em up games are still awesome time killers. Sooo which one is the best? Vote/comment! I've included both arcade versions and ports since they're different enough.
My vote goes for the original arcade. I wasted a college fund worth of quarters on that machine when I was a kid. The graphics, music and gameplay blew me away at the time. It only suffers from being too short, but it is an arcade game so that is expected. I still play it over and over to this day. As a matter of fact, I'm playing it right now.
I agree on the recent movie. I want my $9 back from that monstrocity.
I had to give it to the original arcade game as well. The NES version adding a couple of stages kind of drags things on a little, and I miss the interactive objects in the other versions. I mean some are still there in Hyperstone, but not to the same degree.
Turtles in Time Arcade is the pinnacle of the series for me. If the SNES game or the cheap Genesis clone could handle that much animation and that many characters on screen they would rival Streets of Rage 2 for best Beat-em up ever.
Hyperstone Heist. Had it back then and played the hell out of it.
Didn't watch the latest movie and it seems I didn't miss much. Only the original and the CGI one were acceptable.
TMNT3 by far. COWABUNGA
The arcade game is what made jaw drop and realize my NES sucked, or least was painfully dated. I really got in Arcades games because of it. I wrote a letter to Sega asking if it would come out on the Genesis. They very politely told me they had to plans for and sent me list of all the games in development and a poster. It was shock compared to the surly letters I would receive from Nintendo. So in short that game lead me to the Genesis.
I loved the Arcade Turtles in Time but I never played it that much sadly since it wasn't around that long in my local arcades at the time, but I bought the game for the SNES when I bought that system and played it for years and still enjoy it. The movie (new one) was ok but could have been better, especially the overkill Shredder but hey atleast it wasn't the alien turtles they had originally planned.
It was really hard for me to pick between the SNES due to nostalgia and hyperstone heist do to the massive time I have spent dissecting it. Hyperstone definitely gets the most play lately though :)

From the gameplay and length point of view, my favorite one happens to be TMNT3. More levels, bosses and different special movies for each turtle. I wonder how would it look with 16-bit graphics. Someone should hack either 16-bit game into TMNT3 remake :)

^Correct, I love TMNT3 both due to Nostalgia and its technically the most original of all the games. Hyperstone Heist comes in at a close second. I would also love to see TMNT3 in 16bit. Maybe the guy that puts NES games on TurboGrafx16 can do it??
The two best are the original arcade game and TMNT 3 for the NES. Between those two it's tough, but I went with TMNT 3 because it's longer, has the best level designs in the series (and some of the best in the genre!), and such.
Went with Turtles in Time SNES, but when I play that, I always follow it up with a game of Hyperstone Heist. For some reason I can't play one without playing the other one too.
I didn't get to play the arcade version of Turtles in Time till a year or so ago when the local Play N Trade had a TMNT TiT cabinet set up in the place (they replaced it with X-Men from Konami, they also replaced Super Puzzle Fighter II with the original Metal Slug, and added in Primal Rage).
