Really liked the first two games on the PS1. They've not aged that well though, but I still enjoy them. Driv3r was just a downright turd, and "San Fransico", I got bored of after the timeskip. Oh yeah, and I played the demo for the latest one. Didn't think much of that.
Opinions?

Driver always felt like a poor man's 3D GTA to me, even before GTA3 was out.
I always liked Driver, but never enough to actually finish a main mission and unlock city free roam.
great car chases though, especially for a pre gta3 game.
The first Driver was great, but I never have really played the second; couldn't get it back when it came out because they didn't make a PC version for some dumb reason. Then the series went bad with Driv3r and Parallel Lines. Driver San Francisco is fantastic, though! It's by far the best Driver game since the original, and is one of the best 7th generation racing games for sure.
I actually really loved 2, and 3 when they came out. I played 3 all the time and even did all the side objectives.
But holy crap, have they aged poorly. I recently went back and played 3 and it was just terrible.
It seemed like such a huge open and explorable world back when it came out,
but now it's seems like a poor-man's GTA Vice city at best.
I rented Parallel Lines when it came out, and found it to be okay. I actually did like the time progression aspect quite a lot though.
I'm sure if I played it now, it would at least hold up better than Driv3r.
i only liked driver 1 ( recently bought it on psn during a sale ) of the ps 1 titles
it hasnt aged well but was a greta game for its time but damn if it wasnt hard some of the mission were downright unfair
driver 2 was mor eof the same only even more ugly and unfair it was ugly in 2002 when i played it its even more hideous now
didnt care much for driver 3
or san francisco
parallel lines and driver 76 are not half bad though
at least you can walk around and not be useless and freely jack cars
To say a little more about each one...
Driver is a great semi-open-world mission-based point-to-point driving game. At the time the concept was original and it's executed very well. It's a hard game, but outstanding! Biggest negative: One of the hardest tutorials ever in a videogame. This was one of the better racing games of the late '90s.
Driver 2 is a good game, but not as good as the first one.
Driver 3 (Driv3r) goes full Grand Theft Auto, because that series was popular. I'd rather play the first two games, since they're what Driver should be about, not just cloning GTA. It's average at best, too. Now the series has lots of shooting and on-foot action missions. Ugh.
Driver Parallel Lines is basically more Driv3r: another GTA clone. It might be even worse than Driv3r.
Driver San Francisco (PC/360/PS3 versions) goes back to the series' roots, and is again a mission-based driving game. The on-foot shooting sections are gone, and instead this is a car game, as you do various missions of several types. The game has a really cool power where you can switch to any car at any time, very useful during chases and the like! Great, great game.

i wouldnt say that parallel line is worse then driver 3
3 was a broken mess of glitches with your character useless and helpless outside the car
parrallel lines is driver 3 with the kinks worked out in a better more vibrant city
That's possible. I've barely played Parallel Lines. I thought I remembered Parallel Lines getting lower scores than Driv3r, but you're right, Parallel Lines did score a little higher -- it has a ~68% average, versus ten points lower for Driv3r.
The first two Driver games as others have already posted, were nothing like the GTA series. Driv3r was the game that was a GTA-wannabe and so was "Parallel Lines", both of which were poor entries in the series.Quote:
