I just tried to log into ebay, where I have dozens of active listings, only to find my account does not exist and my listings have been deleted.

Well, apparently ebay claims this is a server maintenance glitch and not a hack... But who knows.
In any case, pretty nasty fuck up.
My account seems fine, but I did need to change my password.

According to this, it seems it's likely just an error on eBay's part.
Furthermore, just looking at their Customer Service page has a notice saying it's an issue on their end.

Well, maybe it truly was just a mistake on ebay's part.
My initial reaction when it said my account did not exist was getting scared shitless ( Fear they had deleted my account for some random reason )
Then I tried browsing some other auctions I had linked and some did not works ( said they were deleted ). So at that point I was a bit less scared as I knew I was not the only one.
I thought it was an ebay glitch.
Then I saw that article that claimed EBAY HACKED and got scared shitless all over again.
^^Do you have any shit left in your body? I know what you mean though. I check my accounts daily but if I see something like that I IMMEDIATELY start checking everything. I don't link my bank account to anything so all it takes is a call to the credit card company to freeze it all if something is suspicious.
Glad your account is back though. I bet that is a relief.

Well, considering their history I expect that if ebay got hacked they won't admit it unless the cat gets out of the bag without their control.
So yeah, might be better safe than sorry and change the password.
I only get on ebay about every four months or so, so them asking me to change my password probably had nothing to do with the recent troubles.
They got hacked ( For real ) a few months back and eventually suggested everyone change their passwords.

well the problem is some of these hackers take one dollar from your account so you don't even notice it and if they have many accounts they could even take a dime from 500 eachday
