Gaming Regrets

Interested to know if anyone has a few of these - Gaming items thrown-out, lost, stolen or you passed on that you now totally regret.

And not to make this a complete downer, but having recently gone through my basement belongings I couldn't help but feel that throwing out all of my old Electronic Gaming Monthly magazines was a shame. As a kid without a Saturn or PS1 I still used to enjoy just looking through reviews, ads for Lunar and Final Fantasy truly captivated me and I drooled over the Virtual On models for sale in the back. Perhaps it's just that magazines are old media and that in itself feels like a lost to me.

As for games - I wish I had made an offer for my cousin's SNES system and games before her scumbag boyfriend split with it all.

And per my previous topic - Splatterhouse 3. There is a hole-in-the-wall music store in the Falls I happened in as they had a few cardboard boxes of old games - Splatterhouse 3 was among them. Complete, pretty good shape and I passed. Scary games aren't my thing firstly but I had no idea it was worth more than the $5.00 they were asking.

And yes, it was gone by time I figured it out. Urrrggggggh!

Not buying Musha in about 2008 or so when I thought it was overpriced.

Buying NBA Jam TE instead of Shining Force II back in 1995. I regretted it the moment I got out of the shop, and to this day I don't know why I did it.

Losing my Manual to Dragon Force. I have no idea where it went. I have the game, I have the case... All my games and stuff were kept in one area, but only a handful of items vanished. That one, my fighters megamix manual, the case + manual for skies of arcadia, the disk for the first panzer dragoon.
Everything else was/is easy to replace except that.


My original toaster NES was stolen as well. I had let one of my step sisters borrow it + several games, they broke up and he took off with all of them. I loaned a bunch of other kids in my neighborhood games as well. Some to borrow and decide if they wanted to buy, some just to borrow. I only got a handful back. One of the reasons I lend almost nothing out to anyone anymore unless I REALLY know them well.

Not too many regrets aside from that however. I tend to not sell much very often... so most of the stuff I really enjoyed I still have from when I first bought it. I sold my SNES ages ago, I semi regret that, but most of what I enjoyed playing on it has been re-released many times. I think there's only like... 4-5 games on it I want but can't play anywhere else (at the moment).

Which is something I'd look at the retron 5 + a flashcart to remedy... SNES stuff is just stupidly overpriced.

My regrets would be the following:

-Buying an N64 instead of a Dreamcast. While I enjoyed my N64, I would have enjoyed a Dreamcast more, and could have taken advantage of the cheap games being liquidated at the time.

-Not buying up more Saturn games during The Great Dump.

-Not getting a PS3 last generation. While I like my 360, when I got it more of the JRPGs I liked were coming out for it, now though more of those are hitting the PS3 instead.

1. Throwing away all my classic gaming magazines back in the late 90s. Biggest mistake ever in gaming for me.
2. Buying Sword of Sodan. Worst purchase ever, period.
3. Throwing away SNES, N64, Intellivison, and Atari cart boxes after buying them. My economic future was nowhere on my radar at the time.

In 1996 my dad exchanged a non-working MSX-2 with a floppy disk drive for repairs to a VHS and a TV (I was agree with that). Nobody wanted an 8 bit computer at that time and less if it didn't work,but now I feel like @%#@.

I bought G-lock for the Sega Genesis.

Buying a third Xbox 360 after my previous 2 took a shit in a little over a years time each. And for some weird compulsive reason, buying an Xbone at launch that took a shit the 2nd week I had it. Oh, that; and choosing an N64 instead of a Playstation during that generation.

Getting rid of my Saturn copy of Contra: Legacy of War for next to nothing several years ago. It's a rubbish game, but if I'd kept it for a while longer, I could've gotten a tidy sum for it.

Not buying various Turbografx/PC Engine games on my want list 5-8 years ago when they were only relatively overpriced, rather than obscenely overpriced as they are now. Last weekend I saw Super Air Zonk sell for $600 and Legend of Hero Tonma sell for $450. Both of those games used to be more like $70. On the other hand I am grateful for the games I do have. I certainly wouldn't start collecting for this system today.

Selling my 32X. It'll cost a small fortune to get another one, even loose.

Selling my copy of Metal Warriors to a used game store for peanuts because I had no idea it was valuable. I bought it for $5 in 2007.

Not buying a Mega Everdrive sooner.

Passing up on Popful Mail several times in a few different stores in 2010-11 because I wasn't sure I'd enjoy it. It was priced around $45 then.

What i really regret is not buying a Sega-CD when a shop here was practically giving it away for free, because at the time i was trying to save some money to buy - believe it or not - a N64.

I ended up with none.

Nowadays, a Sega-CD here doesn't go for less than 300 bucks and quite frankly, i don't picture myself buying one so soon.

Let's see - never sold anything, never lost anything, never really broke anything. Only game I ever passed on stupidly, I found for $5 a few months ago. I have no regrets. I've done pretty well, and I'm seasoned enough not to slip up at this point.

Surly you can hunt one down cheaper than that - a Model 2 of course, after all reliability is the name of the game here. It's worth it for Final Fight CD alone, man :cool:

I sold my Master System and NES to get a TG16, along with all of the games, and my TG16 and library to get a Sega CD on launch day when I should have waited. I have since fixed those mistakes, and find it hard to part with a console to this day.
