Does anyone know of a good FREE program (I'm hoping along the lines of DVD styler in terms of functionality) for making a Blu Ray ISO file? I'd like to convert an mkv file to an image I can burn. I've tried multiAVCHD which seemed good, but kept it crashing.
I've Googled this to the nth degree with little success. I'll keep looking, but if anyone has any tips I'd appreciate it a great deal.
The only authoring program I've been able to find that is worth a damn is Cyberlink PowerDirector. Not sure if that's what kind of functionality you're looking for, though.
Hollywood has spent a fortune making sure you BUY BluRays from them rather than make your own. They're particularly anal about it this time around given how DVDs turned out. So most HD users ignore BluRay altogether... why bother with an expensive (realtively) tiny disc that Hollywood goes batshit insane over if you try to make your own? Just buy a 1TB harddrive and ignore the damn thing! :cool:
You can even get external USB adapters that let you hot plug your 1TB drives so that you can switch them on the fly like floppies. :cool:
As to playback on your TV, most computers can handle that, or you can get a number of different settop boxes that will play HD from external USB drives. I use my OUYA to do that in my living room... those HD mkv files look awesome on a 40" HDTV. :D
I know DVD Architect Studio can write to BluRay discs. I think VideoPad can do that as well.
Those settop media players are the best, they just keep better and better as the years go by.Quote:

And you don't even need an external HDD, a lot of settop media players allow you to put an hdd inside.

I guess I'm either a purist, a snob, or an idiot when I say I prefer actual BD copies as opposed to 1080p MKV (or HEVC or any other container) rips, but I can see your point in mounting ISOs onto a virtual drive for use. It saves wear and tear on the drive, keeps the originals from getting scratched and smudged and, with the proper equipment, are a 1:1 copy of the original. My problem comes in the software that doesn't decode at 24fps to a television; I rather like the film look that blu-rays can provide, and I sometimes find that missing when I mount an ISO and play it back through my television. Plus I don't really have a dedicated setup for such a thing, so I'm sure the cumbersomeness of the whole process adds to my overall frustration...Quote:

(Noticing Imgburn) I would like to point out that the ImgBurn installer includes malware by default and you cannot uncheck it this time. The malware is called OpenCandy it does install on your system despite what their website says I had to ran a malware bytes scan and it found OpenCandy related executable files on my hard drive buried deep in many system folders. If you are stuck with windows and need a good free image burning program try http://infrarecorder.org/ this is open source and has no malware.

Which versions of Imgburn are affected by that? I have 2.5.0.0 installed currently.

Yes it is imgburn 2.5.8 that is the bad version. About the programmer's response to OpenCandy the issue lies in the fact that when you install ImgBurn if you actually read the License agreement you will notice that the OpenCandy License agreement is included right below the ImgBurn license agreement and when you press I agree you are agreeing to those terms. From there OpenCandy will search your computer and made a recommendation in other words it tries to guess what other malware the user is most likely to install based on searching the computer. This data is uploaded to their servers and the "recommendation" is submitted back and they could do anything with this data including storage. Despite this evidence of OpenCandy unconditionally running through normal means of launching the installer the programmer believes that clicking custom is opting out of OpenCandy even though the reality is that in addition to what I have already mentioned it also leave at-least a *.dll file. Another system file could be infected in order to execute code from that dll which may contain even more malicous code. Sending data from your computer to OpenCandy's servers with no means to opt out is malware. Even if he adds an opt out button without running a packet sniffer or dissembling the code there is no way to know if the button can be trusted.
