No Manhunt 2?

So we´re not the only ones here in Germany who forbid too much gore.

First Manhunt 2 didn´t get approved in the UK; the rest of Europe is likely to follow.

Now the ESRB in the US has given Manhunt 2 the rating AO for Adults Only; which means that either the developers have to make some major changes or the game won´t be released in the US, since neither Sony nor Nintendo allow games with that rating.

Japan and Australia are known to be a bit stricter than the US, so it seems very unlikely it´ll make it there at least.

Maybe we have reached a limit of what amount of gore is acceptable in a video-game finally? I mean, the gore has risen so much since the days of our MD, I guess somewhere it had to stop!

Yes, but here in the UK it will only be illegal to sell and not to possess. I for one will be picking up a copy - any game that has been banned by the censors is bound to be good. If games were sold correctly and parents took some responsibility so that children couldn't get their hands on them, then there would be no need for censorship and protests every time Rockstar releases a game. Too many people are too lazy to parent and so real gamers suffer. "I bought my 9 year old GTA:San Andreas and am appalled by it's content." - take some responsibility.

The thing is-IF YOU GET A COPY.
Maybe there won´t be a PAL-version at all, or even NO version anywhere.

Besides, although I am strongly against censorship I do think that Manhunt goes too far; GTA is kiddy-stuff in comparision. And unfortunately, the first Manhunt didn´t even prove as good quality-wise as expected from Rockstar.

thats Bull Sh*t sony did not pull or tell rockstar to take Grand Theft Auto San Andreas from stores after Hot Coffee thing happen here in the US ESRB gave that AO

Someone on another board was saying the ban is justified. To be honest, If you don't like it... don't buy or play it, it's THAT simple. I've noticed that people all over the world can't seem to govern their own tastes and desires without having someone else decide for them. This whole "the game should be banned" proves my point. I don't have a problem with ratings - they can help keep games away, but it should be up to the parents/customers if they want to buy it.

And come on, the shops should enforce the ratings... I know in the states I get carded if I buy a game that's rated for adults. I grew up playing Doom and Mortal Kombat and I never went out and shot anybody or kicked some ones head off.

As some dude on slashdot said, "I want to play Manhunt 2 about as much as I want electrodes attached to my nuts, but this is wrong."

I just don't get why censors seem all the more ready to attack video games when an adult can walk into any Movie Gallery in the US and rent as many gore fests and porns as he or she likes.

A Take-Two representative told GameSpot today that the ESRB has issued an initial rating of AO for Adults Only to Manhunt 2. While not an outright ban, the rating would severely limit a game's sales potential, as most major American retailers have chosen not to carry games rated AO.

Good. Rockstar knew that this game wouldn't fly, considering how tame a game as Bully got massive media attention, they knew it would get even worse stick. So why bother in the first place other than to add fuel to the (ugh i hate to use this term) 'Jack Thompson' crowd? Oh, wait. It's about money. It's not about expanding user experiences, it's not about challenging traditional media censorship laws, it's about raking in cash on the back of controversy, and they know we know they know this.

So would you have no problem with a game where you graphically and realistically rape a woman (thrust the wiimote! thrust the wiimote! BONUS POINTS!!)? What about a genocide simulator? That prepubescent witch-touching game for the DS is top of amazon.jp's pre-order list. Reckon that would get released in the West?

I'm not one to cheerlead for censorship or whatever you want to call it. However, Take-2 and Rockstar knew the acceptable limits of where they intended to release, so this is a cold, hard sell-out in the guise of raging against the corporate machine. That's not cool, it's old and frankly pathetic. Stay banned, Manhunt.

I don't have a problem with the games content because I wouldn't be suprised if there is a rape simulator or a genocide simulator someday that will be sold at your local game store. I'm sure 10+ years ago before GTA came out, people never thought a game like GTA would exist, and now the market is filled with GTA games and ripoffs.

I don't really care about the games content, seeing I dont have a Wii nor do give a dead mooses last shit about the game. Either way, it's good to have that choice of buying it if you want... or leaving it on the shelf if you want to.

I'm just chilling back and laughing my ass off how everyone is getting their panties in a knot about some game they have no intention of buying, even if if the game had less questionable content.

While not a rape simulator per se, Custer's Revenge for Atari has rape as the main theme of the game. I'm surprised that game back then got that much of issues as games today. Some places did ban that game, but not as much as Manhunt 2 will. Probably has something to do with primitive graphics, I dunno.

I think the people should restrict themselves in some way. There has to be a line between what is acceptable and what is not. Rockstar pushed it too far this time, so it is good if someone shows them where they go to far.
Do we really need something that sick to have fun with games? No. It´s just using the lower instincts of people to increase sales. This game is more than anyone needs.
Publishers needed a slap in the face to know where to stop.

No, just nudity, however, this also tend to rile various American "Mothers Against _______" groups. South Park the Movie made the point very well that these groups tend to go to wars for various causes, however, maybe if they were more responsible parents in the first place there wouldn't be such a cause. I don't like the idea that I will be unable to buy a game because some lame excuses for parents can't be bothered to regulate their children and therefore are liable to buy little Jimmy a copy of Manhunt 2. I think it's sad that this has happened with the game pretty much completely finished and ready for sale. Maybe teh internets will bring us Manhunt 2 in all it's AO glory some day in the future...

In my area, there's too many dumb parents, so dont get me started, but there's no outcry seeing the stores actually card you when you buy games!
