Is there a list of games that have only mono music?
Altered Beast
Strider
Many more. I'll have to find my list. I used to mark down whether each game had stereo sound as I played them back in the day as they came out and I played them. I also noted other things like if they had digitized voices, if I had beaten them, if they had parallax scrolling, if they had scaling and/or rotation, if they had back-up saves etc etc. I must find that list.
As far as stereo goes I didn't just limit myself to the music. If sound effects were in stereo the game got marked as having stereo.

Joe you took a hit for the team on some of those games.
Yep. I rented EVERYTHING I could get my hands on. At $1 a night and 3 games per night, why not?

I thought Strider and Street Fighter 2 sounded too centered. When were Genesis games $1 rental? I remember nes games being atleast $3 and snes/genesis being $4 for 2 day rental. That was early 90s Long Island prices.
I used to get them for two fiddy a weekend in Canada, so 1 USD a night sounds reasonable.
That is crazy dedication, Joe. How did you catalog those? I assume notebooks but am hoping floppy disks.
I cannot remember early 90s prices of rentals very well (usually got one of my uncles to rent stuff for me now that I think of it), but close to 2000 or so there was a place in Canada I would visit that had $1 full week rentals for any game including some imported stuff. Good times.
If you guys were renting from Blockbuster or other types of places that also rented movies, then likely the game rental prices would be higher as well. We had several dedicated game stores. I think the highest priced one was $1.50 a night. You can choose to rent for more than a night if you want but I always chose a single night. That's all I need to decide about a game. If I want to play it more after that then I buy it (finances permitting). I never returned games late.
Pencil, paper and staples, my friend!Quote:

That place was awesome, it's where I could rent a Genesis for $20 with 3 games included, no deposit. They even imported SFC to rent in 1990, so I got to play it before most people.
Joe keeps his documentation as analogue as possible.
I'm surprised by Road Rash Sega CD. They took existing music in stereo and put it in the game in mono?
