Well this is interesting, $50 PS4's & Xbox One's

So apparently Listings are showing up on Amazon for PS4's and Xbox Ones for $50-$90 and people are seeing them and going to Wal-Mart and getting them to price match. Obviously something fishy is going on with these listings, but people are taking advantage of it. I've seen an ethical debate sparking on places like NeoGAF over this and I'm curious what you guys think of all this?

These are THIRD PARTY listings. They are not fullfilled by Amazon and most likely will be cancelled.

Whelp, I just bought an Xbox One. Let's see how this pans out.
One issue right off the bat is I don't know a single game I'm interested in playing on the thing.

Letter of the law versus the spirit of the law, I think.

Maybe the questions to be asked would be:
Do you really believe that $50 covers all costs of production, transporting and storage of those xbones and PS4s; plus the cost of the employee which is handling your purchase at Wal-Mart?
Do you care about unemployed people?
Do you feel awesome after a purchase like that?

Well I just bought one. Here's hoping they don't cancel it.

There's like a HUGE debate on Nintendoage speaking about this from the whole Sears listing Wii-U bundles and 3DS for $59

Not even at $50 is a PS4 or XBone worth buying. There's nothing good to play on them, at all.

These are third party listing guys. So I wouldn't really trust them, sorry I should have been more clear on that in the original post. People on NeoGAF said their orders were cancelled. It looks like people may be putting these up just to take advantage of price matching.

Damn, sounds like I missed out on some good Nintendo deals. I don't think I would buy the Xbox One even for such a low price. Plus, that "Just Launched" seller looks fishy.

I didn't see the PS4 deal anywhere though. *Edit* Nevermind. Still fishy though.

But if that was the case wouldn't $50 bucks seem kinda unrealistic or a price match? Could as well have listed them at $10.

Apparently Wal-Marts price matching policy is extremely vague. Though it depends on the manager's discretion.

I foresee some new Amazon seller policies in the near future. Something like - Have an expensive new item? You won't be able to sell it for below a certain price. Or newbies can't sell game consoles.

You cannot tell me that a person is justified by knowingly deceiving a major retailer into believing a $50/$90 price match for a ~$400 console is a legitimate transaction. Well I wouldn't say they're a thief, as they are still paying for it and the store is agreeing to it. Is it unethical? Sure, but some may also say it's being thrifty.

oppertunistic 'robbery' works in that one person in the situation is a fucking idiot, if someone is stupid enough to think Amazon really is selling @ $50 they deserve to lose the money in the first place, any stores policy on price matching will instantly go "nope." and reject this. they cover themselves for things like this.

The PS4/Xbone price matching does seem suspicious, maybe even fraudulent as you were saying. The Nintendo case with Sears though, that looked like fair game. Kind of kicking myself that I didn't spot it. Would've bought a Wii U or 3DS.

If this isn't thievery, then neither is any other cash register con like the quick-change scam or other types of social engineering that target young, naive cashiers.

Which is to say it's fucking thievery.

"You should have been smarter than to let me steal!" is not justification for stealing.

However, if you're the kind that isn't bothered by a little theft, then I suppose it's a decent way to go about it. The store can't do much beyond refuse you.

I let my moral compass dictate alot of the actions I need to make in my day to day affairs. There is no way I could knowingly cheat a corporation let alone a person. I agree with you. In this day and age people do have a sense of entitlement. All one needs to do is to turn on the local news and hear about how people are willing to lie, cheat, steal, and kill in order to get what they want.

Yea. The "this day and age" comment was something I've noticed in my kneck of the woods. The world is changing and not for the better.

With how much exposure this scam is getting, I'm sure there are thousands of people flocking to Wal-Mart now to try it. I can just picture them arguing with the manager about it. "Your policy says you price-match anything! Give me my god damn playstation for $50! It's mine and I deserve it!"

I agree with you though absolutely, I would question if it is actually thievery though.

An indication of moral failing, 100%. It's still deception with the intent to defraud though. If these people paid with credit cards hopefully Walmart and the like doesn't go after them for this kind of stuff.

This is the craziest thing I've ever heard. I can't believe people got this to work. But I'm with Lan Di, I think this is no better than phishing for someone's credit card information or deceiving someone to give you something for cheaper. It's a bit dishonest if you ask me.

Wal-mart already issued a statement saying they were changing their policy so that they only accept price-matching for 30 official vendors which they listed.

Oh poor old wal-mart,
how can they ever make up for their loss.....
