The Wookie battle would have been much better, but Georgie-boy fell for the old Hollywood cliche - if you want something done RIGHT, you send in either James Bond or a rag-tag group of kids. He chose the rag-tag group of kids... covered in fur.
New trailer. It's actually looking a lot better now. Looks like the Skywalker legacy will continue. Hey look at it this way guys, anything's better than The Phantom Menace though, lol.

In my ideal universe, the original Star Wars trilogy is all there is. The new movies have been...lackluster, and for me that's putting it nicely.
On the subject of ewoks, they weren't great, but they weren't absolutely terrible to the point of ruining the whole movie for me, either. The prequels make the ewoks look fantastic.
Let's wait till the movie releases before judging it. JJ Abrams knows what he's doing.
I wish I could get more excited about this but I just can't. I think I'm dead inside.
Well maybe not totally. I'm actually looking forward to the spin-off films more than this new main trilogy. It's probably because I always liked the other parts of the universe more than the Jedi stuff.
I have no doubt JJ will make a more exciting film than the prequel trilogy but that doesn't necessarily mean it will be a good film, which is how I feel about his Star Trek movies, but to be fair there wasn't a lot he could do with the tripe Orci and Kurtzman vomited onto the page.
I would like to get excited but I can't, because I've never seen a single Star Wars movie. I wouldn't even know where to begin.
Wish I could feel what others felt when they first saw Han Solo in the trailer.
I'm kind of excited, but not THIS excited! :p

I fucking hate Star Wars. This piece of shit is gonna be the Star Wars equivalent of Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
I'm actually more excited for the Blade Runner sequel to drop.
In fact I'm too. I know I should be vomitting at the mere idea of a sequel to this materpiece (Blade Runner, I've seen it more than 15 times), but the director's name is so unexpected (I saw his first movie : 32nd Day of August on Earth, bith and it was a good film, but even Woody Allen would have been more suited for a sequel to Blade runner) then I'm really very curious.
That said, I'm curious too about SW sequel, but I don't praise JJA very high (Lost was decent but not so bright as it claims, Alias was weak, I couldn't stand Fringe more than 5 episodes and I'm no Star Trek fan so I find the movies average)

Yeah the new trailer had me going ehh, well it looks slightly better than the the last one but it still just doesn't look like Star Wars to me which is pretty big deal. I know they it shot on film but CGI looks like CGI . My mind knows that things can not physically move like that. They just don't. Adding instant reply style camera shots makes it far worse. The Abrams style is really cutting though it like a knife. Storm Troopers should not look like that bought their uniforms at the Apple store. However that shot of Han Solo and Chewy had me dropping my mouth open, one quick deep inhale, and my eyes wide open. I felt like a little kid again or someone had resurrected all of my child pets, found my lost toys, let me stroll though Lionel Playworld one last time, or relive my 8th birthday when I got the The G.I. Joe Air Craft Carrier.
^^
Completely agree.
And yet whenever I try to similarly phrase my opinion of it that way to the locals I get accused of "full-on hipsterism"
I'd have liked to see Chewie with some grey streaks. He looks just the same, Han not quite so much.
Two schools of thought on where to begin. Chronologically with regard to the story, or chronologically with regard to the release order. Personally, as someone who saw the originals and then saw the prequels in the theaters (except episode III which was a rental), Despite not really having as much of a choice as someone today would, I'm glad I did it this way as I didn't much care for the prequels and possibly wouldn't have continued on to watch the original 3 which are some of my favorite movies ever.
I like all six movies, and even though they can be watched in chronological order, I would also advise anyone new to the series to watch by release order (IV, V, VI, I, II, III) the first time. Because the prequels (as the name implies, they are sequels set in the past) were made with knowledge of the originals. There are nods, themes, motifs, etc, that only someone who has watched them by release order would get and understand.
Just joking and being a nerd, it's the old argument I'm just fetching up.
There are some who believe that the Blade Runner sequel will bomb. Even if it isn't as good as the first movie, I just want to see how they will advance the story. I'm just glad that Harrison Ford is reprising his role as Rick Deckard.
Incidentally it was recently announced a few days ago that Ryan Gosling will also be starring in this movie. Sean Young recently stated that she would love to be part of the project too. Anyone who is a fan of the original movie will tell you that they would love to see both Sean Young and Rutger Hauer join the cast. At a minimum, fans would be happy if they made a cameo appearance. I know I would!
[spoiler inside]
My main concern with BR2 is that, if Harrison Ford plays, then, unless huge make-up and special effects, his character is much older.
But replicants don't age...
I hate that garbage about him being a replicant. It doesn't make sense or add anything to the story. All it does make some people ohh and ahh. Scott snuck in that Unicorn scene and that the only thing that points to that.
When the mob starts bashing some of my favorite all time movies, all it does is give me great, amazing, awesome deals on the stuff I love. I get to have what I love for cheaper. And, guess what, they still make money! The more people hate the stuff I love, the cheaper I get to have it for (kind of reminds me of how awesome it has been to collect for my beloved Sega Genesis/CD AND 32X).
Amazing movies I love that people bash:
Willow
Legend
The Matrix parts 2 AND 3
Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome
Waterworld
Jurassic Park parts 2 AND 3
The Lord of the Rings Trilogy
The Hobbit Trilogy
Alien 3 AND Alien Resurrection (BOTH ARE FUCKING AWESOME!)
Star Wars EPISODES I, II, III AND VI (ALL FUCKING ENJOYABLE!)
Wookies live hundreds of years so Chewie is still in his prime. I'm actually kind of pleased that it shows they haven't completely ignored all of the established expanded universe facts.
Funny story about that though: My friend's five year old son who just saw the original films and has no concept of how old they are reacted to that scene by saying, "Chewbacca has a dad?"
I am more of a casual Star Wars fan so I will probably go and see this. Though I have never watched Episode III before but I do feels fans pains when somebody fucks up you fave franchise ie X-Men and Tranformers.

Expensive fan fiction based on no$talgia.
Good music.
It seems better than what I expected...
Yeah, the trailer has me pretty excited. I'm typically not an Abrams fan, and what he did with his second 'Star Trek' movie was nothing short of blasphemy. With a tidal wave wiping out the Golden Gate Bridge like a 90s disaster flick, and Spock beating the crap out of every one like Jean-Claude Van Damme, it was nothing short of ridiculous. However, the fact that Lawrence Kasdan is at the helm of the 'Star Wars' script has put me much more at ease. And I can't deny that what we've seen so far looks great.
Visually, it looks like a copy of the OT. The Millennium Falcon, X-wings, TIE fighters, Star Destroyers, planet-sized space station, rebel soldiers/pilots, stormtroopers, Vader wannabe, young-adult Tarkin, forest planet (like Endor, but not Endor), snow planet (just like Hoth but not Hoth), desert planet (just like Tatooine but not Tatooine), etc... And all of this is supposed to be set 30 years after Episode VI? Episode I was set 30 years before Episode IV and at least it was visually distinctive and yet still Star Wars.
Thanks, but no thanks. I don't want a rehash, I want something new. As a huge Star Wars fan, I'm disappointed.
1. Lawrence Kasdan is writing (if you don't know who he is then turn in your SW fanboy card).
2. J.J. Abrams was never a Star Trek fan. He could care less about Trek. He was hired by Paramount under the guidance if Robert Orci and Robert Kurtsman, the horrible Transformers movie writers. Abrams claims to be a long time Star Wars fan. I doubt if he screws this up.
3. The original cast form the original trilogy has major screen time, except for Mark Hamill (and for a good reason, you'll see).
4. If my words aren't enough, the listen to Luke himself, Mark Hamill.

“I was a little suspicious. I was like, ‘Wait a second, that ‘Star Trek’ guy? Listen, I like ‘Star Trek’ … There’s no rivalry, but I just thought it seems odd. Not that I was predisposed to dislike him. I was just cautious about it.”
Abrams soon won the actor over. Hamill cited Abrams’ penchant for wanting to make the new “Star Wars” films reflect those of the original trilogy rather than the heavily computer-generated Lucas-helmed prequels. As much as possible, Abrams and his team built original sets for “The Force Awakens,” and earlier at Celebration, the film’s special effects team said the new film would emphasize characters over digital magic.
“This film is the first ‘Star Wars’ film that is actually in the hands of someone who grew out of fandom,” Hamill said. “He feels the way you feel, in terms of wanting practical sets, real sets.”
Also, Hamill said he felt comfortable roughhousing with his new director.
“He’s a personable guy,” Hamill said. “He’s really easy to talk to. He’s very inclusive in listening to your ideas instead of being adamant that it has to be ‘this way.’ He’s lovable. What can I say? I like that he’s diminutive. The bully side of me was eager to get him into a headlock and give him noogies.”
And besides.....

It was also a bad film, with Episode II being even worse, and Episode III being the only one to at least be watchable (despite having its own issues). The second trilogy felt like a step away from the original one, as somehow everything looked more advanced than what was in Episodes IV-VI. The ships didn't feel like earlier versions of the ships from the original trilogy, they felt like later revisions. Like somehow 30 years after Episodes I-III, everything had regressed technology-wise in Episodes IV-VI. Factor in some bad acting, way too much CGI, and boring plots, and the second trilogy didn't feel like an expansion of Star Wars at all. It felt like something unrelated to Star Wars, that got wound up being shoehorned into the Star Wars universe.
The second trilogy had no magic to it IMO. No heart. You didn't care about the recurring characters, because they were interchangeable with little in the way of distinct personalities. You didn't care about the story, because it was all over the place and unfocused. The only thing the second trilogy had going for it was finding out some of what happened to characters that were prominent in the first trilogy... and even that wasn't a big enough selling point to make you forget about how much more unimaginative and uninteresting Episodes I-III were.
But yeah, those are my thoughts and opinions on it. I'm not a massive Star Wars fan or anything, but I'm looking forward to seeing what comes of Episode VII. At least it seems to be in the hands of people who give a shit about the franchise... unlike Episodes I-III.
I'll put up my deflector shields now.
