Shitty dev kits,no support from nintendo,an underpowered cpu and bad sales.

Yup. Nintendo doesn't care about crafting a quality online experience, doesn't care about versatility with its hardware(Ex: movie disc playback), doesn't care to include competent built-in storage, doesn't care to make a LEGIT effort to bring the 3rd parties back in, etc.
And they wonder why their console is selling like crap.
Some of the multi feature stuff I can say wouldn't matter as much. IE the original Xbox couldn't play DVD's out of the box either, they shuffled that cost to the consumer with the playback kit. Kind of a crappy move, but at the same time if you REALLY wanted it, you could get it, and wind up with a remote to use instead of a controller.
Nintendo could still choose to not really support that, and while they would take some flak... it's not that big of a deal. But they can't just continue to give online the slowest and most minimal attention possible... Seriously, Nintendo's handling of online anything is them being forcefully dragged, against their will, kicking and screaming into the current age.
They also can't ignore that their "core" market tends to be dwindling. The people that grew up as "Nintendo kids" in the 80's and 90's are getting older. Some have gotten out of gaming altogether, others broadened their horizons, some are going strong.
Their kids? Some grow up on the then current Nintendo system as well, but many will either outright abandon the system, or relegate it to a rarely used one when they get older. They are going to go to the phone/tablets or the xbox/ps/pc platforms for a more complete experience.
And by complete I'm not saying that Nintendo can't make some good games... of course they can. But they tend to occupy a pretty narrow spectrum. Other systems tend to have games that don't do what Nintendo does quite as well... but they do have games that cater to the same markets... plus a heck of a lot of other games that cater to much wider markets.
So again, Nintendo could be perfectly fine with that, but their press announcements and all tend to reflect that they aren't... so they need to change. They can't just do the same thing as last time and hope it works this time.
The people that are counted among the "Nintendo faithful" are a dwindling number that can't be counted on to keep them in the black no matter what they do.
If all nintendo really cares about being is a "niche" gaming company, doing only their 1st party stuff and little else? Fine. But they shouldn't be surprised when their hardware sells accordingly.
Like i said in that other thread, if Nintendo wants the gaming world to take them seriously again? Then they need to take themselves seriously first, and get with the times. No more of this "niche" market crap regarding their library and hardware. Or else they'll continue to be 3rd stringers with only themselves to blame.
It's hard to see Nintendo as the #1 system anymore after all these fuck ups over the years.
I can see it fine. In theory... just not in practice.
A system that can go toe to toe with the latest MS/Sony console spec wise, gets all the same multi plat titles people want, AND has all Nintendo's first party offerings? Hell, that's awesome.
Just picture the PS4 or XB1 but made by Nintendo. A more robust e shop, the ability to have shred libraries of older games to use on their 3DS as well as their system. Maybe even off system play like they do with the vita and gamepad if they had a newer gameboy released with a better screen. Even the ability to use the 3DS handhelds as controllers in some games.
All of that with a more thought out and mature (as in development, not age) online ecosystem and you've got a system that is well placed to be pretty damned awesome.
Nintendo has probably THE most recognizable video game IP's on the planet, bar none. Other companies have one or two here and there, but Nintendo has dozens.
A system that could combine that with all the big hit 3rd party multiplat games for a decent price and market it well? It'd be the system to beat.
So yeah, in theory I can see it just fine. But I don't see Nintendo doing any of those things to actually get there.
I can picture it but if Nintendo isn't going to do it then it's all just a wet dream.
About online on consoles... I do not follow WiiU, but... how well their games work? Do they get usually patches? Because one of the worse "feature" that online console, are the game patches. That's turning releases into unfinished games. Maybe this is one the reason for Third Party support. As they are greedy releasing games too soon and not matching Nintendo quality. But that last sentence only really means if Nintendo still care with properly game releases
With enough money anything is possible. Other companies do it but Nintendo can not? This is the company that redefined gaming in the 80's and 90's!
The only things? Parties and chat are rather important these days. A few of my other favorites are how, in Smash, you get a ban for a disconnect or working over the same opponent too often. Thank god Plants vs Zombies Garden Warfare isn't on the Wii U or I'd be banned for routinely beating up on the same player....constantly. We're in the year 2015 and not 1993. Nintendo is ass backwards when it comes to online gaming.
Have you stopped to think how poorly the Wii finished and how poorly the Wii U started? Couple that with third party games tanking on the Wii U and it shouldn't be a surprise the effort and releases are sub-par. What's the incentive? Time and work for a game that won't sell because the target audience is mainly on competing consoles?
Let's not forget that Nintendo is nowhere near hurting for money. They could literally bleed money for years and still not even go close to broke.
Maybe they should bleed some money to good, exclusive 3rd party content that isn't filled with cutesy and cuddly.
Yeah. They made all this money on the Wii/DS and they just sit on it. They could have used that to really invest in their new platforms, but they just retained it as cash on hand. Lame.
