I've always had a love for 2D, I have a so so relationship with 3D (early stuff has grown on me a little, but will never see the love 2D gets), the PS1 and Saturn could deliver some good stuff to play. Whether it was shmups, platformers, puzzlers like Cleopatra Fortune (or arcade ports in general, yum). Basically stuff I loved about the 8 and 16 bit era.
Am I really the only person that has issues with the control in Super Mario 64 being really slippery because now I feel like i'm playing the game totally wrong or something.

Back to first generation PS1 game, that's strange, I owned a PS and there aren't so many games I kept memories (even with more recent titles). I liked Fade to Black, but much less than MD Flashback.
Yeah, first gen games have this really strong charm. It's really weird. Like maybe the initial explosion to way better hardware removing previous gen shackles is the reason for such great creativity?
EGM bashed the heck out of this fave game of yours, sorry to say. I think it even won worst game in their buyers guide that I still own? If not at least made fun of good enough. But thanks for saying otherwise. Will investigate this game sooner then later then. :)Quote:

I just looked that up. The review was from 2003, and it got 2.87 out of 10. Man, that's harsh! It's a love it or hate it type. After replaying it recently, I can say that it's not as good as I remembered it being, but I still really liked it.Quote:

I haven't played it yet, but I own a copy (sans manual) and am very intrigued by the game. Hardcore Gaming 101 featured it as their "weekly kusoge", but eh, they sometimes miss the mark with those reviews (e.g. the 3DO Bomberman clone they branded as unplayable kusoge a while back, but isn't that bad at all).
Tekken 3 was all the rage back then. So I bought it. I didn't hold on to it for more then a week before getting bored and returning back in mint condition. Store clerks were shocked (exact same thing happened with Dreamcast Soulcaliber, lol). Then again, I don't remember any other 3D fighters for the PS1 that I liked... guess it's just me...Quote:

I can't imagine Dino Crisis being better then RE1. I imagine I could be wrong. But RE1 was the first and the best from my RE days before they screwed up the series with RE4. So... again, later PS1 gen RE2 & Nemesis didn't live up to the first. Though I'm aware many think RE2 is the best, I never could replay it till this day after beating it with the 2 main characters. The atmosphere/vibe wasn't as good as part 1. I actually recall also liking Nemesis better then RE2.
But overall, I'm not saying there weren't any more good or better games for the PS1 in later generation. Just that it doesn't seem as much as the earlier game batches. The only system not affected by this issue was the Saturn due to life support being pulled in it's infancy (that and it's my fave system. So I may just be blind x_x). Otherwise I see this trend for NES, SNES, & Genesis too. As the systems become more popular after a certain popularity, the more casual & shovel ware things become. It really sucks.
Yeah, but surely is because nostalgia. Now I am replaying Megadrive games, but no PS games, that's true. But Im sure not a lot of people will play Megadrive games if they didnt played them in its heydays. But Play Station made a huge selection of great games, and what I think about the topic is, to me, its very clear that later games totally destroyed the very first. Almost the same with Ps2. But ey, maybe its just me, of course I could be wrong: No Castlevania was better than 1997 on psx!

Just been replaying Abe's Oddysee on my Wikipad. I always loved the spiritual, though not too serious atmosphere, it seems to have a great deal of pathos somehow. I'm playing it with save states as the save feature in game seemed to gimp out on me a lot meaning I never saved all the Mudokons on real hardware, so I don't regard this as cheating. It's one of my faves really, I love this style of game where you go from one screen to the next, and I think the way the still backgrounds merge seamlessly with the FMVs.
