Seeing how I've been able to enjoy the shit out of "The Ren & Stimpy Show: Stimpy's Invention" on the Sega Genesis, I think I can at least give The Witcher 2 a try. ;)

the witcher 2 is an acellent game. but it's old and therefore so much less interesting than witcher 3. same reason why I doubt people can get the same enjoyment out of skyrim/oblivion today like they could 5-8 years ago
The original Witcher has really poor play mechanics. It's a really clumsy experience, as is the 1st Fallout game.
I can easily go back to Skyrim, Oblivion and Fallout 3, because the play mechanics are solid, and don't require the combination of a mouse and keyboard. I'm just glad that the Witcher 3 has controller support.
I found Witcher 3 a chore with controllers, but that may be because i'm spoilt by the fact that I can quickly select items 1-5 on the keyboard.
It just seems controls wise there is a lot going on and shortcutting all of that around a controller isn't the easiest of things to do, but i'm glad it's there and not just M&K only.
I wanna try Oblivion but the graphics are so friggen primitive compared to Skyrim. Like its not apples to oranges, I'm looking at both PS3 versions.
Lol. I've been holding off on Skyrim specifically bc I've been waiting like 15 years to sit down and play Elder Scrolls III on the original Xbox. TBH, even when I purchased the game back in the day, the graphics were not impressive at all to me. It was a dark, gloomy, foggy world. But the premise was enticing. I ended up putting it back on the shelf and now I have also Oblivion to get through b4 I try Skyrim.
I prefer third person perspective. That's why I can't wait to get into the Witcher 3.
Frankly, I'm not a fan of the 3rd person perspective Bethesda tries to add on the Elder Scrolls or Fallout series. It's basically first person view, but with an annoying asshole with his ass stuck to the screen like a giant bug on a windshield. All it does is block my view. It's an afterthought added to gameplay. It reminds me of how Naughty Dog fucked up the controls for The Last of Us by doing this same shit; except, no first person perspective to bail you out (I'm sorry guys, but The Last of Us plays like shit).
The Last of Us is an outstanding game! Did you play the PS3, or the PS4 version?
Yeah, Elder Scrolls 3 looked like shit when it was released. It ran pretty bad on my PC, which on paper, was more powerful than the Xbox.
I played the PS3 version. But I don't think it would have mattered to me. What I'm getting at is that god-awful perspective that caused the main character to always stick to the screen like a FPS with a character slapped in front. It made for horrible aiming. The problem is that, unlike the Gears of War games (which also tend to do this), The Last of Us switches on you on parts of the game (like that part where you're climbing on top of buses and the perspective is taken farther back". On the other hand, Uncharted games have excellent gameplay (and for even better gameplay: the new Tomb Raider games).
P.S.> You mean outstanding in the sense of gameplay, graphics, story...or a combo of those and/or something else? I think the story is ok. The graphics are outstanding. But the gameplay could have been much much better.
Oh man. Thank you! And here I thought I was crazy all these years saying that same thing. I always understood the appeal and even liked the overall look and feel of the game, don't get me wrong, but whenever people talked highly about the graphics, even back then, I could never understand what kind of beer goggles they were using. It's kind of like the Fallout series. The graphics are not exactly the most top notch. Textures are blatantly used. But, again, I still understand the appeal anyways and, even, would go as far as to say that I also like the overall look and feel of the games. And this is coming from a guy who doesn't care about graphics as much as your average gamer does.Quote:

Bethesda games, as good as they are, are buggy as hell. Best to play them on PC, so you can have access to the console command/developer tool. Playing their games on consoles, and encountering a bugged quest means you constantly load past saves in hope you can start it again without it buggin' out again (New Vegas I'm looking at you). At least with the console command, you can correct that somewhat.
And with being on PC, you can use mods. Mods are awesome. I've sunk hours into Fallout 4 on PC, but have only played about 40 mins on the PS4 version, purely because of mods. They might be coming to PS4/Xbone as well, but don't count on any of the good stuff to be, at least none of the more advanced stuff like character overhauls and texture improvements.
I have my gaming rig plugged into my 55inch 4k TV - might as well be a console. Besides having to use a K+M for Windows 10, I use controllers 100% of the time for the games. Console gamer at heart, but boy do I love my PC.
Morrowind just looks really exotic. I don't know what theme they were going for, but its definitely different compared to Oblivion or Skyrim. Pre-historic?
I mostly prefer 3rd-person, but in Bethesda games that mode is far inferior to 1st-person. You can tell their game engines are designed for 1st-person, the scale of the models n shiz.
Perhaps its time to start an Elder Scrolls thread.
The PS3 version has some serious slowdown when the bloaters are around. It makes the combat much harder than it should be. The PS4 version runs at a constant 60fps and the combat feels much better because of the frame-rate. I like the combat, because you have more than one option for how to tackle an area. You can set traps with bombs, or choose to use a flame-gun in areas with a lot of enemies grouped together. You also had options for stealth kills to conserve ammo.
I liked the interaction between Joel and Ellie as you walked around the areas. There were some neat interactions between the characters, outside of the cut-scenes. It didn't feel like it was just some pre-determined interaction, because you had a choice to ignore the interaction, or partake in it. There's a lot of depth with the characters and their development within the game. Joel and everyone within that world had pretty much cut themselves off from attachment, because they had felt that they couldn't trust anyone, and everyone that they had loved died or were infected later on. Ellie became a purpose for Joel to continue on. She was someone that Joel could finally trust and he did everything to protect that in the end.
Did you like the over the shoulder view in combat with the Mass Effect series?
I recently started playing Fallout 3 (finished it on the 360 many years before) on the PC last summer; It's still a really fun game to play. I've also played New Vegas (360) and Fallout 4 on the PS4. I found it to be rather odd, that the size of the mutants was much smaller than they were in the previous titles. I've pretty much played those games in the 1st person perspective, because I feel that the 3rd person perspective just doesn't feel right for this kind of game.Quote:

^Good observation on the relationships on The Last of Us. I will agree that the character/NPC interactions were very smooth.
I have tried Mass Effect (1) on the PS3. I had to put it immediately down because I couldn't cope with the lack of X-Axis inversion at the time. Together with Tomb Raider on the PS3, it made me buy a Chronusmax Plus just to be able to invert the X-Axis. I'm not beating on that, though. It's just a personal thing and I don't think it takes away from the gameplay (lest I woudn't have been able to find a Chronusmax Plus, of course ;)). I've been wanting to get into the Mass Effect series ever since, but many a game came after that which I simply found easier to play and much shorter (I also enjoy longer games, but it's my available time atm...).
I am currently playing Fallout 3 for the first time ever. I am enjoying it very much (not the casual 3rd person perspective, though ;)). I will update you on Mass Effect once I get around to it (soon enough, I hope).
Been playing this game nonstop after I got full ownership of my PS4.
Theres a new video about Blood and Wine. Its really long though, so you shouldn't try to watch it all in one sitting:

A new Gwent deck is also coming in the expansion. Gwent is the king of all mini-games in open world games:

Apparently this expansion will come out in early summer (July 7), that would be perfect timing.
For this game, it'd be nice if Nvidia didn't deliberately try to cripple all performance in AMD & it's own older Kepler cards, with their HairWorks bullshit.
