Does NeoGeo count? Its so expensive only a few people bought it, but its games kick ass!
For second there I thought this thread was about which consoles would be most appropriate for black people, asian people, etc.
Anyway, the answer is clearly the TurboGrafx-16 or maybe the Sega Master System.
Then my vote goes for Neo Geo. My (rich) best friend in late elementary/middle school had that console. I had tons of fun playing that at his house.Quote:
Totally! Neo-Geo and NG CD was awesome but never got the respect it deserved.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who had that same thought!Quote:

SMS was not very popular in Japan and the US.
no way is the Sega Master System more popular then the NEOGEO
you must have not been born when the neogeo came out if you think the Sega Master System is more popular then the NEOGEO
the best lesser known system to me was the neo geo cd, it was a great and cheap alternative to the cart based system and had games that I could actually afford and still retained the arcade feeling of the cart system.
and honestly I don't mind the loading times at all since it's about the same as playing most of the cd based systems from that era.
Definitely one of the Neo Geo consoles. If the cart / CD ones were too common then the NGPC is it for sure. That was the best handheld I'd ever played before I got my DS and if it wasn't for the horribly dim screen, it would still get plenty of play time.
great choice 0x15e, the ngpc is definately a great handheld that I enjoy playing. too bad it didn't have a backlit screen though, but there are mods out there that exist to give it a backlit screen.
i would say turbo duo it was a great system with some great games played both hucard games and cd games all in one nice BLACK (LOL) system
Ooo...tough choice. Damn. I dunno. I wanna say the Sega Master System because of Phantasy Star, but I dunno.
I don't think SMS or Turbografx count. The word "little-known" was used, and neither are little-known, as both were the #1 system in some market at some time. Americans aren't the only people who know stuff.
My vote is for the Atari Lynx.
Dang lets see...
Portable Console
Neo Geo Pocket Color (In the US)
Console
Atari 7800
Seem like alot of people over looked those two when they were released...
Bullshit!Quote:

Oh, how my life would have been ruined if I had bought that. Actually, it might be improved since I would have been turned off of video games and I'd have a normal life!
Anyway a few weeks later I finally found (and purchased) a Sega Master System at Children's Palace. Remember them?
I would have to say Cd-I. After all where can play such high quality "gems" as Link: The Faces Of Evil and Escape from Cybercity. It also makes a dandy doorstop.

I looked in mutiple stores for one with no avail... while looking at the showcase at a toys R us.. i saw both a Sega Master system and the 7800 IN STOCK... i was about 2 seconds away from buying one of those.. when my mom asked.. "Are you sure?"... so instead of buying one of those that day i waited another week for an NES...
and heck yeah i remember Childrens Palace....
CD-i; Burn Cycle and Lost Eden were amazing games that unfortunately appeared on the wrong system, at the wrong time. I highly recommend both of those games to anybody who likes adventure games with a difference. Shame the CD-i only gets remember for its poor adaptions of the Nintendo franchises, since there are a few good games on it. I still say it has the best version of all of Don Bluth's laserdisc games; highest quality, and unlike the arcade version, it actually, at most times, tells you what button you should be pressing by indication of flashing lights. Small touch, but made more accessible and fun that way. All in all, I think this console is really misunderstood, sure it has more bad than good games, but the actual good games on the system are well worth playing.
The 3DO was worse, if you ask me.
I'd also like to add the PC Engine/TurboGrafx CD to the list of underrated consoles.
I'll have to keep my eyes open for those two. It would be nice to have a few games that were not garbage on that system.
As an American, I'll say Turbografx-16 (and Turbo Duo).
Little known means different things to different markets, obviously.
Probably Neo-Geo; they were insanely impractical at the time, but now I look at them with a more friendly eye. Dreamcast was a minority console, to a certain extent, and it would get my vote for best Sega underdog.
Probably Turbo Duo for me...I once saw a pic of it in an old magazine, saying that NEC was thinking about entering the EU-market with a console. Just a few units were ever released, I think in Spain, and the system remained largely unknown but for a few times it was mentioned in magazines.
I never saw an actual game for it back in the days...but now that I know it a little better I think it is a fine piece of hardware. If only HU-Cards were region-lock-free...
TurboDuo for me,
The PC-Engine line was nintendo's biggest competitor in Japan until the 32/64 bit age.
Sega didn't do too well over there outside the arcade until the release of the Saturn.
Bally Astrocade
A bit primative and bizzare, but fun.
Hmm.. Neogeo and 3DO were pretty cool.
I'll go for Neo Geo myself, it was definitly a minority system here in the UK, Metal Slug is just soooo good :)
Most minority systems are lesser known for good reason, because the hardware is flawed, and a lack of decent games (I'm looking at you PC-FX, GX4000, Game.com, Virtual Boy etc) but neo geo was lesser known simply because it was so damn expensive.
