SNES scart / compnent video blacks out

How's it,

If anyone would be kind enough to point me in the right direction in remedying this - it'd be so greatly appreciated.

The scenario is that when playing games on my SNES using a scart / component setup, there are frequent moments when the television video completely blacks out - this occurs mostly during scenes of bright colors. I suspect this is related to the television decoder and perhaps low resolution output from the SNES but am not sure how to mend this issue without having to buy a new television all together; This is frustrating as my Genesis / CD / 32X has never experienced such video problems.

Playing some games on the SNES is becoming near impossible as the video cuts every ten-to-twenty seconds for periods of two-to-three seconds. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, was really enjoying Mystic Quest... :(

Just try on another TV.

Are you using a selector box? That may cause hiccups.

Be warned the simplest scart / component converters do not upscale, and are best suited for CRT SDTVs.

I'm not using a selector box as I've heard of the hiccups that sometimes occur and have no problem just switching out the scart lead behind the television.

I have a CSY2100 clone and a rear-screen projection LCD television that supports 240p. I must say the SNES outputs some relatively clean video using composite but having seen the quality in scart / component, it is just frustrating it suffers these black outs.

Does anyone use a component video amplifier/booster in their setup?

I'm at the end of my rope as, perhaps I've been daft, but along with my SNES my Genesis is also experiencing these annoying 'black-outs.'

The picture is fantastic, and not all games experience this but the ones that do become unplayable. For example, just standing at the beginning of Chemical Plant Zone or trying to play Thunder Force IV - my video and audio blacks out for 2 to 5 seconds, reappears for several, rinse and repeat. Even my television menu screens cut out if I have them displayed.

Composite has no such issues other than being poor quality. I'm certain it is not my consoles, games, connections, converter or television bulb. I've tested my setup with my Nomad and the issue is even more frequent.

So, any remedies? If anyone cares enough I might even document this with video just for reference for others with similar issues.

Have you tried any kind of upscaler? We haven't ruled out the TV not "correctly" supporting 240p component.

Haven't tried an upscaler; Are there any that have component leads out and not just HDMI or is that not an animal? Thanks for the suggestion.

Updated for anyone's reference.

The black-outs I was experiencing was mostly SNES-related but did occur on certain Genesis/CD games whenever there was a moment of immense singular color or moving dithering.

The Scart/Component converter I was using (CSY-Clone) was failing to provide a solid picture (displaying at 240p) during such scenes and caused my television to completely black-out.

I've since been able to purchase a Genesis Component cable from HDRetrovision.com and it has been flawless!
