One more thing; I always thought back in the day Aladdin was the best looking 16-Bit game. I pretty much still think this. It got everything right. Even how colourful and the colour choice used. But also how everything looks like no tiles were used. And the beautiful Disney art and animation. Still holds up so well today.
I, too, prefer SNES Aladdin over Genny one.
Virgin's Aladdin was more faithful, presentation wise, to the movie while Capcom's Aladdin felt just as one of their "standard" SNES platform game reskinned with the Aladdin license but I prefer how it played even if it was easy and short.
i personally cant stand either. the snes is boring, but the genesis feels incomplete and floaty. the graphics blow away the snes, but damned if the platforming on the genny just feels weak. the sword does feel weird so usually i go the apple route. either way, i can see their good points they just aren't for me.
I never had problems with the sword, since I discovered that crouching attacks are a lot more reliable and have a longer range.
Mega Drive version is much bether also mikame who did snes version agree with it,
but if you gonna look for who follow the movie in right way you guys must play sms version.

Yeah, the SMS version is nice, great graphics, nice music, and ok gameplay. The one i havent played is the Game Gear one. Is it the same as the SMS?
Looks like it from the footage I've just seen. And let me tell you this, it was the biggest rip off of my childhood life. Bought it brand new for $50 or so Canadian dollars as a kid, and I basically beat it on my first go the same day. Yeah, my nightmare gaming childhood story. I've still got it. But never once replayed it. Hate it.
Its a shame about the lack of change/length. Paying so much for a game you finish on yout first go must have been really disapointing, moreso for a kid.
I have only tried 3 or 4 levels of the SMS version, and liked it a bit. Havent attempted to finish it, though, but since i got it for free, i guess i wont hate it that much, hehe. Still, it looks great for the SMS, and i feel its assets look closer to the movie than the SNES game.
This thread made me want to revisit Prince of Persia. Games good, but very tough.
Aladdin is alright, I should play that SMS version.
i really don't know maybe because cartigde space limitations, this game have alot of tiles compressed and each level have nice unique art,
and good sprite animation.
But playing today, i think the sms version have bether ideias compared with the big brothers,
this version have cool level design with more variation of gameplay mechanics
The SNES version is not bad but I prefer the Genesis one.
The ending on the MD version always fell a little flat for me, which is a shame because up until that point I really enjoyed it. Reading the above post from Pyron this does make sense.
I never had any trouble with the sword though, I was always able to use it just how I wanted. On the contrary however, most things people find easy in other games I often find almost impossible!
The SMS version looks very impressive too, never played it but all the vids I've seen give the impression of a real system pusher in many regards.
^ In the past I used to care about endings more, but these days, I look at it as cart space better spent elsewhere.
Kim Justice just released an excellent video about the history of Aladdin on the Genesis which also touches on Capcom's SNES port. Much of the information is from Melf's excellent "Behind the Design" article from a few years back.
