I don't know if Sonic Boom should be blamed on Nintendo :/
I'd throw Killzone and the two Infamous games in there. While not as disappointing as those other games you have listed, they definitely didn't live up to their hype if I remember correctly.
These weren't really flops:

It has nothing to do with it being on the PS4. It just reeks of generic, dark, medieval fantasy to me.
Eh, it doesn't have to be a flop. Some of them have done well saleswise.
But they were basically hyped as being these gigantic event games that would push millions of systems and be played for years.
Only a handful have even come close to that.
But Titanfall, destiny, AC:U, and a few others have basically been ok-well reviewed but ultimately not provided much interest.
Nintendo helped fund and secured exclusivity.
Both games failed to propel the WiiU to the mainstream like they were intended. Like Alex Kidd for the SMS great games but point of sale failures. Flops.Quote:

Killzone was a successful launch title. It easily smoked Ryse, Knack, and Dead Rising in sales. It scored in the 80s and 90s. Not a flopQuote:

I blame the press for that one. The game itself is actually good. It's not quite on the same level as Generations, but it's still a solid Sonic game. But the Sonic fanbase is so fickle and spoiled at this point that nothing will make them happy.
Scratch that, thought we were talking about Lost World. Sonic Boom is terrible, but I blame Big Red Button for the majority of that, and Sega for the rest. Nintendo had no clue it was going to be that bad when they funded it.

Right...
No, those were progressive left idiots. It actually sold rather well for a niche game on a niche system:

Well considering it's multi-platform spiritual predecessors, Dark Souls 1 and 2 barely sold more than New Super Mario Bros U combined, I wouldn't hold my breath. Not saying it's a bad game, but good reviews don't always translate to massive sales. See Bayonetta 2 for example.

OK, I'm humbled. Those are impressive Mario numbers my friend. Do you mind providing links to those sales numbers? I'm sure those are worldwide numbers. Japan embraced the WiiU early on. Not so much for the PS4. With Mario sales like that you would think the WiiU would be dominant worldwide by now. And Super Mario U was released before the PS4 launch. Mario 3D world launched the same month as the PS4. The WiiU already had a respectable user base. The PS4 was just getting started. Not making excuses for Sony, I'm just calling it as I see it.
3rd party support is crucial for success. Too bad Nintendo was to dumb and arrogant to understand this. 3rd parties dumped Nintendo like a Chicago pimp dumping a useless worn out whore. Nintendo should have bent over backwards to keep third party support. The mainstream casual gamer is who keeps the business going. That is a fact. Thats why we will never see another Shenmue and that alone kills me. Madden, Assassins Creed, GTA, Call of Duty, etc are huge money makers and people willing to spend that kind of money want the most popular, best technological and capable platform to enjoy it on, and the WiiU isn't it. Its like the PS2 and Dreamcast all over again minus the DC piracy. Additionally Nintendo needs to drop the prepubescent stigma like they did with the SNES "Play it Loud" marketing program. Bayoneetta and the rumored US release of the WiiU's Fatal Frame (fingers crossed) isn't enough. I guess Reggie is too stupid or sheepish to consider that.
Back to the topic at hand. Now the PlayStation 4 + Bloodborne / Last of Us Remastered Bundle plus a $20 Gift Card has now dropped to $399.99 on Amazon.....http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...=ATVPDKIKX0DER

Sales come from VGChartz. Yes I know not the be all end all source, but it's the best we have for worldwide numbers at the moment. They do seem to match up with press releases though.
We did actually see Wii U sales spikes with those games though. New Super Mario Bros U was a launch title and bundled with a lot of systems, and 3D World is the current bundle. So they are pushing systems. I think Wii U is getting close to 10 million sold last I checked. While I know PS4 crossed that a while ago, Xbox one isn't that far ahead of Wii U. So I wouldn't be surprised if this gen we see a repeat of Gen 6.
As for third party support, I think part of the problem there was with misreading the market and making bad decisions on the part of a lot of third party devs. Just look at EA's "testing" of the market. They put out Madden 13 and Fifa 13, but they were severely gimped ports that were worse than the 360 and PS3 versions and they came out later. Mass Effect 3 while a great port was released for $60 the same week they released the Trilogy set for every other platform for $40. And Need for Speed came out months later after all hype had died for it. None of those are really good or fair market tests.
EDIT:
Forgot to mention the order for the sales numbers goes North America, Europe, Japan, Rest of the World, Total.
Also, The Last of Us is the highest selling first party title on the PS4 at 2.81 Million worldwide according to VGChartz:
http://www.vgchartz.com/game/80977/the-last-of-us/
Looking at the regional breakdown, New Super Luigi U outsold it in the US...
Yeah, it's not bad for a remaster at all. Though GTA:V on the system is around double TLoU Remastered. I think GTA or CoD is the highest selling game on the system at around 6 million each, then it drops to around 4 million for Destiny. I'm just surprised TloU is the highest selling first party title. I figured one of the new exclusives would hold that title.
Dude, the Last Of US is THAT GOOD and a bowl of grits. Phenomenal game on so many levels. Some claim that it's too depressing. Don't believe it. It has plenty of lightheartedness and reminds you regularly that it's just a game.
Those GTA, COD and Destiny numbers are living proof alone that casual main stream games are what publishers/console makers profit from the most. I have a soft spot for the GTA series. I've played all of them and I love all of them.
Activision is a prime example of corporate fiscal planning and strategy done right. Case in point. Call of Duty every year. Guaranteed massive sales. World of Warcraft. A subscription based MMO juggernaut. I hate it, but it is an inconvenient truth. That's why Sony's the Last Guardian is on the back burner. Not a shooter, not casual, and not online. Not a fiscal priority by a country mile. And no Shenmue ever again IMO.:Panda:
Lan Di, why are you so up at defending the PS4? Who cares. Let's be honest, the PS4 still has a couple of years to go before people will consider a amazing machine but it doesn't matter. Its selling well enough. Though Sony has always been a slow burning console with most of its impressive games coming later in its lifetime.
People already consider it a great machine. Over 20 million buyers world wide cant be wrong. Have you been sleeping under a rock? Link---http://www.ign.com/articles/2015/03/...nits-worldwide
20 million units SOLD. Not shipped, but SOLD.Quote:

I'm not a Sony fanboy by any stretch of the imagination. I just know a great deal when I see one. The Xbone is a solid system, but I don't need a living room VCR.... I mean media device/cable box/game console. The WiiU appeals to me more than the Xbone. I just want a cutting edge game console without the fluff and useless features (Kinect 2.0, picture in picture, cable TV features, etc.). I just wanna game on a capable device. My PC has largely replace the need for an Xbone. Maybe when Phantom Dust, Crackdown 3 and Scalebound drops I'll get an Xbone provided those games don't come to PC.
This is what I'm talking about, your trying to throw 'numbers' at my face to defend the console. Before it was metacritic, which I stated WHO CARES because most of Sony's good games don't come out till the middle/late life of their consoles.
You know what? People are wrong. If you thought the Dreamcast was worse than Playstation 2 just because of numbers, especially in its 2 year life span...
Yes, people can be wrong and I think you should dial back the fanboyism, all I see you do is put down the Wii U like it had sexual intercourse with your whole family or something.
Put down Wii U like it had sexual intercourse with your whole family or something? Wow, that's rich. I own one after all. And BTW, keep my family out of these forums, I don't know you that well for you to make references about my family. I know you probably didn't mean anything by it, but again, I dont know you like that dude. Ease up.
Dont get me wrong, I love the Dreamcast. I never ever said the PS2 was better than the DC. Back in the day I would get in cursing matches with Nintendo and Sony fanboys defending Sega and the Dreamcast. I 'm probably the biggest Shenmue fan around here. But Sega of Japan fucked up with the Dreamcast. Bernie Stollar as much as I despise him is why the Dreamcast launched at 199.99 and had a ton of launch games, the best launch in the history of mankind IMO. But Stupid SOJ fired Stollar and flushed the Dreamcast and Sega's hardware future down the toilet.
1. No EA
2. No DVD
3. Retarded GDrom - a hacke'rs/ pirate's wet dream come true. What the fuck was stupid SOJ thinking?
Back then I was such a blind Sega fanboy I couldn't see the truth for what it was.
The GameCube got lucky because the mini discs were practically impossible to pirate. Sales number were still abysmal, Nintendo re-branded the GameCube as the Wii and lucky for them it was a casual gaming waggle fest hit.
Look dude, numbers don't lie. The truth hurts doesn't it? Try living in reality where money and sales is king in the dog eat dog console world. That is unfortunate, but true.
BTW, if anyone is considering getting Bloodborne and you never played a "souls" game., I highly advise you watch this IGN special first. Its a Bloodborne review discussion.
