Airwalk Studios -> Second Dimension

Hi everybody! I haven't been on Sega-16 in a while, and I wanted to update you on my projects. Sega-16 has always supported my work, and I really appreciate Melf and everybody here.

I just wanted to stop in and let everyone know that as of this evening, Airwalk Studios is no more. We've been working hard on our next projects and the next phases of where we'd like to go, and we feel this is the best path to take. I did post a little goodbye notice on the Airwalk site since it was my little baby. Second Dimension will still be pursuing similar paths, and all projects have carried over (though some of the products haven't).

could we kindly have an update with respect to "Project KO"? How far along is the game? And are you able provide some more information about the game?

Also, I understand that "Handy Harvey" is a tweaked version of "Fix-It Felix Jr". What changes or updates can be expect with this title?

To be fair, we're playing games from the 80's and 90's :p (the intro serves a purpose to set up scripts at this moment in time, the intro will be removed eventually :) )

There's been some hold ups on Project KO, but the outline of the game is pretty much done, it's just getting the graphics done (which may be a challenge), but we're still actively working on it!

As for Harvy, you're right that it's a "tweaked" version, but there's a lot that's different. There will be a few buildings used for the levels, the characters now walk the ledges instead of jumping from window to window, a climbing mechanism has taken over the jumping, and the jumping has been reduced to jump over pits and such.

There will be a few more obstacles besides window shutters and flower boxes, as well as 2 player co-op mode and I'm hoping to manage a 2 player vs mode (yes, one of you will be able to control the antagonist!), plus achievements (that will eventually tie into the website, though it will require manual entry since it's a genesis game).

I can post the latest tech video and go over some more technical details if that's something you're interested in.

Yes I would very much like to see the latest tech video as well as any information you would be willing to devulge about the game! :nod: One thing that I appreciate is when a developer/game designer takes the time to communicate with fans and show off the process in which they design the game. Keiji Inafune for example is constantly providing fans with updates with respect to the development of his game Mighty No 9.

In short, I'm always happy to learn new info about a particular game no matter how simple the gameplay might be! :D

I share the same sentiments :)

So one of the biggest changes that Harvy will see is a co-op 2 player mode. I did a quick tech demo of that to see how challenging it would be, and here are the results of that: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FqiuJ0uodZU

In the 2 player demo, the tiles and level layout weren't optimized and set up to allow a HUD, and the scrolling engine wasn't done yet (I'm not using existing code from Felix since this engine will be different in many aspects). Also, the jumping mechanism is being changed (the jumps in this video were in there to help test the pipe climbing).

After this part was done, I set up the level layout with some mock HUD graphics just to get an idea of spacing, aligned the building, and set up the infinite scrolling loop to test the level maps and make sure everything lined up properly / layered tiles have the appropriate tile under it, etc. Here's a demo video of this in action: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NIzX...ature=youtu.be

I'm hoping the game play is simple! :D There's no reason to have a complex set up, but that doesn't mean that there won't be complexity behind the scenes :P (or at least more than what will be observed on how certain actions and reactions apply to the game).

And you're right that Handy Harvy will be released first. I know that news will disappoint some people since it doesn't seem like we're focusing on Project KO (we are, don't worry :) ), but Harvy is a familiar game in terms of design and programming, and it isn't nearly as graphically intensive on the artist (figure about 500 unique tiles as opposed to ~200 large sprite frame animations), but also because we want to make sure Project KO is done properly, so there's a lot of planning and designing to do as well.

I'm *hoping* to be done with the programming of Harvy by August 1, 2015, with an anticipated release of October 2015 :)

ETA: I'm also keeping a design doc / log for Harvy that I do plan on posting on the website once it's finished (maybe I'll start up a development blog section on the website).
