Who cares? It would just be a predictable popularity contest, probably not too different from your list except likely without Outrun, Golden Axe, Hexen, etc.

Obviously

Video games haven't yet been recognized as an art form to the point where there are respected critics capable of deciding the all time greats that should be preserved and re-released indefinitely. Maybe someday, but not today.

Criterion is only able to release movies when they manage to get the respective rights. I don't see Nintendo, for example, allowing anyone else other than themselves to release their old games or remaster them to current systems.

Wouldn't it be awesome though? They end up a lot of times releasing some cool extras with their releases don't they?

The Namco Museum releases on the Playstation 1 were sort of like that in terms of extra releases and are excellent "museum" pieces - arcade boards, paraphernalia, sprite tests, dip switch settings and more. Really excellent stuff. Working Designs is similar in the lavish care on the package. And much like Criterion, they didn't seem to be too concerned with the quality of the game either!

They do. Although the selling point is usually the remastered picture quality.

What is the fascination with The Last of Us. I initially was attracted to it for the greenery. The game has a good story; but that's about it. The gameplay is ver very poor.

It's a good movie. Just not a very good game, sorry.
