@Metalwario64. Dude, with some exceptions, I tend to dislike most music recorded after 1996. I wouldn't worry too much about it. There is a very noticeable difference in the styles of composition, performance, and production where it's pretty clear the reason for disliking it isn't due to being new. Like you, I hate the everything old sucks attitude as well. I just also dislike the everything old is great attitude also as they made a lot of crap back in the day as well. I just tend to see way less good shit coming out now and way more crap. But, there's always been crap. I would say it seems that you and I agree when it comes to this matter. Also, few things irk me the way that people pretending to act as though they don't know of something or are just completely dismissive in order to seem hip or advanced does. It's so incredibly full of shit when it's done. I had a co worker in 2012 (I only remember this because I had just started at this company) just rudely butt in when I was mentioning a DVD I picked up to someone else and be like "What's a DVD? I'm all streaming. Who uses those?" Mind you the person was like 33 at the time and I was a month shy of 26 which made it even more pathetic as it wasn't like this was some young kid who just didn't know shit. Just supreme douchiness.

There's your problem. Pop music is primarily shit today, but pop music is always primarily shit. It was shit in the 70's and 80's too, you just aren't old enough to have witnessed the full brunt of its shittiness. Oldies stations don't play everything that was popular back then, they just cherry-pick the stuff that people remember fondly while eschewing the stuff that they don't.

Anyway, just don't judge an entire era of music (or anything, for that matter) by whatever is in vogue at the time. There is plenty of good music out there, you just have to dig a little to find it.

I'd ditch the radio though, nobody cares about the radio anymore so it's just the same 10-20 boring songs repeated infinitely. Ugh.

Try not to beat yourself up about it. I know, you can't post anything on the internet without the internet correcting you and making you feel like an asshole. I can't even count the number of times I've typed up a message only to forgo the entire thing just because of whatever minute backlash it might potentially derive. What little I do post, I usually just make my point, get out and dodge whatever responses I get. Then I'll see a post with a slight inaccuracy that I just have to jump on despite everything I just said.

I don't think anyone thinks you're a fool; you just shared an opinion about something you had a limited perspective on. This forum as well as any other is chocked full of people who occasionally or frequently do just that (myself included), so anyone looking down on you for it is likely a hypocrite anyway, in which case... fuck it.

I listen to talk radio more than I do music on Dallas radio. Clear Channel Blows!

One aspect of the modern age that sadly reinforces some of the terrible pop music and reduces the ability to have real critiques of it in articles, etc is the phenomenon of social media and the internet. Once pop stars reach a certain level of fame they seem to be untouchable by critics, and that level of fame is maintained by an endless cycle of online album releases which generate web traffic, in turn fame, more web traffic, etc.

Not that there wasn't crap in the past, either, but this certainly is an unfortunate side effect of the information age.
