one might say the only things that survive in japan are things that are produced there.
I believe the scan Joe is reffering to is in the thread, Genesis vs. SNES vs. TG-16.
One might say that, but one would be rather incorrect. If one would take a look at what products are successful in Japan, one would find a very large amount of non-Japanese goods.Quote:

Grainy, generic Jungle guy from Legendary Axe is wielding a club, not a sword like the more detailed Ax Battler. Ax Battler's sword can also double as a club.
Trivia (from EGM's 8th Anniversary issue, #82, May 1996 which I'm glad to own):
- According to EGM, Issue 8 was (then) amongst a handful of past EGM issues which they considered to be the "rarest" issues of EGM. Dunno if they were lying or not about that, but there were eight issues listed. This one and two other early ones with "Ninja Gaiden II" and "Castlevania 3" on the covers were among them.
- Issue #8 had a slightly different, worse-looking cover that was only available to those attending that year's CES show. In this cover the background's a lighter blue and the smaller "backup" sprites have borders around them with pieces of the in-game backgrounds behind them. Looks sloppy.
- Also according to EGM, the "Hot Games of 89" or at least the ones they were playing the hell out of in '89 were:
- "Ghouls 'N Ghosts" - Sega Genesis
- "Batman" - NES
- "Legendary Axe" - TurboGrafx-16
- "Mega Man 2" - NES
THAT little sidebar right there is what led me to getting "Ghouls 'N Ghosts" shortly after reading it when the issue first came out. My first of 4-5 copies of it, my most bought Genesis game. I fell in love with it when I first got it, having only played it briefly as a tot in the early '90's. I loved/hated it so much that on my 3rd (boxed, complete) copy I got pissed at the difficulty on the last level, ripped the game from my Genny and chucked it box and all into the trash (much to the worry of my younger cousin who went and took it out). Afterwards, I promptly denounced the Sega Genesis and all of the games (20-25) I owned at the time and told my father that I no longer want anything to do with it and want a Super Nintendo (which I had never owned and up until then strongly disliked). About 3 weeks later I was bought a new one ($75, says Zelda 3 came packed-in BUT IT DIDN'T! Everything minus the game!) and went on to sell my Genny and ALL of it's games for credit towards SNES games.
TRUE STORY, which occured 10 summers ago. I jumped ship to the SNES, loved it and collected 31 titles for it over the next seven years. I later re-bought the Genesis and built an impressive collection, but none as impressive or varied as my first collection from 1995-1997. All of this..........because of Ghouls 'N Ghosts and it's difficulty.
Need I mention that I was (and to an extent still am) a tool for letting that little sidebar article influence me into buying such a great game/arcade port? Oh yeah, and my belief that all first-gen Genesis titles with just the "Sega Genesis" logo and nothing else on the carts were...........inferior, 8-Bit carts just because they didn't say "16-Bit Cartridge" under the logo?
I lacked a few screws in my head even back then. :)
You got rid of your genesis because of one difficult game? That would be like me throwing away my Xbox or Xbox 360 if I played Ninja Gaiden on it while trying to beat the 7th boss.
Legendary Axe dude is indeed wielding an axe. Also, the relative detail of Ax Battler is enhanced because Legendary Axe guy is "up scaled" to match Battler's height. He's really a smaller sprite.
The Japs are the most self obsessed nation ever. Just go to any japanese pornsite its 90% bukkaky! I'm not complaining though! ;-)
Believe it or not, I did. I was getting my ass handed to me so much on that last level of "Ghouls", and then I just suddenly snapped and "turned heel" against my trusty Sega Genesis. My working-class, usually broke father didn't even twice about my momentary lapse of judgement, and went and bought me a new SNES about 3 weeks to a month later and took me to sell all of my 20+ Genny games (which I barely got any credit for). I was so spoiled by my parents despite them being working-class and living in the ghetto (to this day). God bless them (they're still around) :(Quote:

I got to discover and play lots of great SNES titles, and it was the system I collected the most games for. Besides, not even a year after purging my collection I came crawling back to the Genesis, got a Sega CD (Model 2, virtually brand new for $10 at FuncoLand!) and started over again. Yeah, I'm just funny that way. Since 2001 I've been at the throes of classic gaming and have pretty much missed out on this past console generation by not buying or (barely) playing any PS2/Xbox/Gamecube stuff.
Back to the EGM cover, yeah upon trying out Legendary Axe he DOES indeed have an axe. It just happens to look like a solid stick of poo in that cover. :D Wasn't Gillius Thunderhead the one who actually wielded the Golden Axe (changed to a NON-GOLD color in the Genesis port for who knows why) or was it Death Adder? Don't remember. I really like LG though. Great game.
As for the question on EGM's cover, I guess it was answered at the end of the year when they awarded Sega's port of Strider the "Game of the Year" award and awarded the Genesis the "System of the Year" award on the.........which one was it? 1990 or 1991 Buyer's Guide? The 8th Anniversary issue didn't say when.
What is that? Isn't that where there's like 1,000 guys squirting on one girl's face? Nothing sexy or enticing about that, unless you really love seeing guys jizz. If that's the case, you might be more comfortable with gay porn.Quote:

Maybe we should nuke Nagasaki again.
I think it has more to do with the fact the woman being jizzed upon is a dirty, flithy whore and that is the fetish. I am happy to research this theory, however, must point out that the degrading of women via pornography deeply offends me.Quote:
