Just wanted to share:
Avgn lets play episode where they played earthworm jim for the Genesis, skip to 5:45 onwards for some in depth classic console comparison.
Hope this clears the matter once and for all:cool:

I enjoyed watching this episode. It's true the Mega Drive was and still is quite excellent for a sports fan. I tend to forget about that seeing as I am not a sports fan and never was.
It's also possible the SNES overall might have the better library all things considered, but for some reason I prefer discovering yet another overlooked Mega Drive game over playing a Top 20 SNES game :p
And yeah, the SNES music is hard for me to swallow. Kinda ruins even some of the best games for me.
We already bitched about this in the AVGN thread.

How can you say that? Snethis had so many..."this", Genesis only had..."that". ;)
Didnīt you know the Genesis is a sports games console but still Snethis has "enough" sports titles, so its still as good even there, well even better because it doesnīt have too many like the Genesis! :D
I'm stilling waitin ror the day someone makes a Sega Genesis vs Amiga or Sega Megadrive (Japanese) vs NEC PC-9801 thread just for kicks :p
P.S I know i could make it myself but it's better if someone technical does it, like how the PC-9801 has a Yahama YM2612 sound chip (I believe?)
Sega Genesis vs. CD-i.
I bet we'd still lose that one because it has Zelda and Mario.
I still don't understand why these arguments are even being made today. Both systems are great in their own right and I love both, the rpgs on the snes especially appeal to me although I still love the genesis ones too. I didn't even have an snes as a kid either, discovered many of the games for it later.
I guess I'm just expecting far too much from people when I think that by this point in time they should have matured and realized that there are good games to be found on both systems and that it's a waste to not take advantage of that.
Some of my favorite games of all time are on the SNES, some of my other favorite games of all time are on the Genesis.
I truly get liking one over the other and having good reason for it. I don't get why these goofs can't ever play a Sega game together without reminding themselves that they think the SNES is better. Just play the damn game.
It's like they're married to the SNES and feel guilty for cheating on it.
I also went from the genesis/megadrive to the n64 like you, but since owned a snes for a long time, altough I still prefer the megadrive since many of my favourite games ever are there, I also enjoy my snes. To just dismiss one of them when you can have some of the best 16bit gaming avaiable is just plain stupid.
Likewise I have my favourite games of the respective generation spread around the n64 saturn and psx.
Totally agree, I really found anoying the way they just "trashed" segaīs console, maybe in their childhood they only played sports games...I donīt know, IMO they really show lack of knowledge over the genesis and way waaaaaaaaaaaaay to much bias against it.
Yes, snes had many "this" but so did the genesis, luckly for all of us 16bit gaming fans.
It's always refreshing to see true fans of gaming and not just children in adult bodies obsessed with a decades old pissing contest. I do prefer the genesis, and my collection will mainly go to that, but I'm probably going to end up getting an snes everdrive just to be able to play everything but still have enough money to build up my sega collection. With things costing what they do I have to prioritize.
I like my snes and the games I got for it, all hand picked at a time prices werenīt that crazy, but to be honest it made me happy I went with the genesis/megadrive when I was young, its exclusives suit my tastes much more than the snes ones.
Also feel the same way with the n64, altough, I ended up buying more games for the saturn (mainly because I was a big 2d fighter fan), as for the ps1 castlevania sotn, soulblade and the 2 medal of honor games were enough for it to be a must with me.
Just to point out more than the brand name, I go with the games I enjoy the most, lately Iīm going with ps3 Uncharted 3 online mode, wiiīs new super mario brothers ( 4 players ;) ) and other multiplayer games like mario kart 64, bomberman and toybox turbos for ps3 and micro machines turbo tournament for megadrive
