Hi all, ive got this game, and although its not as bad as its often sugested, it would be far better if it had the controls and gameplay of Golden Axe 2, or even Golden Axe for that matter...
Has someone considered modding the game to either add the better controls or add the Golden Axe 3 levels/characters/magic to Golden Axe 2 game?
Honestly the controls were the weakest part of GA1 and GA2.
Aside of that the sheer number of moves you can do in GA3 would fill an entire book.
That may be the case, but the game sure did play smoother and nicer in Golden Axe 2, even the first one played quite ok. The 3rd one just doesnt feel like Golden Axe to me.

Not me though, I think it's a lame piece of shit with no personality that completely misses what made Golden Axe cool (I have the same problem with sparkster, again a competent game that just horribly misses the mark).
Felt like a huge step down from Golden Axe II to me. Great for everyone who enjoys it, but it's definitely not for me.

GA1 and 2 has bad controls? WTF!
Please guys... you must learn how to play these games, is just like the orginal arcade... perfect !
GA3 is just a Final Fight rip off with barbarians, all tatics and fealing that made the arcades great are lost,
plus poor grafics and some bad music...
But the game have some cool ideias like combined magic and other stuff but still the weakest point of the series. For me OFC!

70% of the bkgs is generic and ugly like a hell, i prefer the classic with the amazing art and fantasy feeling...
Richer combat system: richer? fixed combo like any Final Fight clone. The original game you have to use strategy and the scenario in your favor and ofc your skill, much more rewarding for me.
To finish, the game is so long with the same ugly enemys all the time.... is boring...
we have to redo some tiles bkhs art, and colors to fix that game... they have cool ideias but not well implemented.

All I said was that the controls were the weakest part of GA1 and 2, not that the controls were bad. I love these games, especially GA1, but GA3 is just insanely good. I don't know how you can not see that? You guys must all be playing on emulators. =P

Yes, they are. I just realized that I am nitpicking at the highest possible level here.
I played GAIII years ago through emulation... does it have a fleaman type enemy that's super annoying?
Not sure, i couldnt play it long enough to know, it needs fixing.
I quite like the game. A friend had it imported so we could play it back in the day. The complaints I see about things like smaller sprites or repeated background tiles never bothered me in the slightest.
I like the additions to the gameplay like the combined attacks, combined magics, special moves and the multiple paths.
The Music of this game Rocks too!!!
By far the worst things of this game are the backgrounds (BLEH!), Magics (on the other hand the combo magics are cool) and the new bigger sprites that lacks frames and some animations are very bad animated.
I always had the impression that Golden Axe III was to follow with similar art of the previous games but in the last minute of the development they decided to redesign the sprites bigger more like Final Fight and Streets of Rage.

They look very much like the art of the two previous games!
Until the Eagle when they back to the form of king, the sprite looks smaller than the heroes sprite, with a very similar art style from the previous golden axe!
Anyone has pictures from Japanese magazines with some preliminary shots of this game to prove my theory?

decided to fire it up and see what the hub bub was about.
the game's too stiff, it looks very much like a first gen genesis game. reminds me of altered beast but even that one looked better.

^ That was my point : you can have very few moves available and still be a great game. I love Sonic (the 1 is my favourite) and I think its very simple gameplay is one of its best feature.
That said, the opposite can be true of course. And I don't say anything for GA3, I've almost never played it.
Platformers can afford to be simple, since in their case it tends to be more about navigating the stages. Stage design isn't typically a major aspect of beat 'em ups. In that case, it's more about the combat. I completely agree with -RT, a beat 'em up is enhanced by having more moves at the players disposal.
GA3 gameplay is nothing new... is generic like any other final fight clone, lost all personality and cool style of the series,
the new moves is there but is not too eficient like the old game for me, the lethel flying sword direct in the head its no more cool and deadly like the others games...
bah i really dont like too much of this generic overstuff game.
GA1 has that weird super high jump thing but i've never noticed any real issues with the game other than the AI.Quote:
