I'm almost positive that there isn't a Gem 12, so you should have all the gems. Are you missing the Sun Stone?

Did you check out this link that I posted before, or did it get lost in all the shuffle?

Nope, it's no glitch. Either you missed a gem somewhere during the quest, or you mistakenly tried to use one during battle.
I wrote that review. Our magazine has existed for 18 months now and the retro/unlicensed section was created just 5 months ago, when I joined the team (so yeah, most retro articles and ALL unlicensed MD game reviews are written by me at the moment). How anyone would pretend we'd publish a review for a game that was released 3 years before our mag was born is beyond me :P
Also, GamesTribune has been the most read online videogame mag for a few months now and a new writer for retro and unlicensed games was needed. That's where the staff coordinator offered me to join. My first review was, go imagine, Legend of Wukong ;) About 5 months later, I thought letting more spaniards know about Beggar Prince was just the right thing to do. The fact that it's been sold out for ages has nothing to do with the game's awesomeness, in my humble opinion.
Actually, Brandon himself will be interviewed in our mag next month (by me) about past and future projects.
Yep, in spanish, sorry :)
Best,
Carlos Oliveros
EDIT: btw, I've been a big fan of Sega-16 for a looong time, but I hadn't signed up until now, silly me!
http://cgi.ebay.com/200511515985 - I demand you guys do a reprint! :o
To be fair, I didn't know when your mag/site came about since every time I tried to connect before (and again 10 minutes ago) I got a Database Error :P
But in all seriousness, and also to be fair, 1.5 years ago when the mag you work for came about, the game was still being sold (second run version? third run?). It's a shame they waited until the game was sold out before deciding to cover it. I feel sorry for the poor souls who pay ebay prices for it now ($464? Holy shitballs Batman!)
Again, the mag was founded only 18 months ago (1,5 years).
Nobody "decided" to cover it. I was offered a place in the team to cover retro and unlicensed games, so both Beggar Prince and Legend of Wukong were great choices to write about. Others have been Shui Hu Feng Yun Zhuan and Yang Warrior Family.
ALL retro stuff I write about has been sold out and discontinued for years, should I give up writing then?
Now seriously, I understand your points. But the fact that this or that game is rare, near impossible to find or sold out shouldn't prevent me from writing about it if I think the game deserves the coverage. Specially in such obscure "field" as unlicensed retro (mostly) chinese games.
Shit. Hit the wrong key. Fixed.
Now now, no need to get snippy. But let's be honest, Beggar Prince isn't the same situation as Thunder Force III. BG was released just a few years ago, well after the system was dead. That's source material for a nice article on the retro scene, especially since I believe the DC and the Genesis both had games freshly out (or about to come out) 1.5 years ago, with the hyped Adventure II having come out a year before that.
No one's suggesting otherwise. And while knowing the whole situation now puts it all in a different light, a little more timeliness on the part of those who were there before you still wouldn't have hurt. After all, the retro/unlicensed scene's gotten busier these last few years, and pointing that out in a premier issue (and keeping up with it in a designated section) would have been quite nice. I know, "better late than never" for the section and all, but still...
By the way, any articles on the DC scene? NG:Dev's been pretty busy.
I really hope no one buys from this seller. For one, the title of the auction makes it sound like he is selling the first copy out of a limited edition of 1500. I am sure that is intentional. It's certainly unethical.
I bought an unplayed copy (according to the seller) off eBay on Monday for $54 shipped (thanks to Zebbe pointing out the auction on the Pier Solar site). I can't imagine paying nine times that for a copy.
They realized the magazine was lacking on certain areas, and so they began the unforgiving quest for a new champion... I mean, a specialized writer. At least they were humble enough to notice... and wise enough to wish for a better magazine every issue ;)
They were pretty unaware of all the unlicensed scene, to be precise.
I plan on covering that as well, but the number of pages at my disposal are quite limited. I'll see what I can do ;)
Yeah I'd love to buy one from Brandon, because the prices on Ebay are rediculous.
I bet Brandon will post something along the lines of "We don't currently plan on making more copies, but if we do, you will certainly get an e-mail about it."
Definitely getting SFT's third game though.
Brandon's answers are looking more and more similar to Steve Job's ;)
Quite right, my good man. But as unappealing as that answer may be, it's the complete truth of the situation at this time.
Especially due to recent demand, I've been putting more thought into the possibility of producing more copies of Beggar Prince. However, even should we decide for certain to do it, it wouldn't be any time soon. There are other (new) game products waiting to be manufactured and released, and they must take priority.
