In fact, the entire Garden of Wonder was a free and clear zone, so far as bugs were concerned. The only quirk that exists is the fact that you can fight and defeat the Cactus Fiend as many times as you like, due to how this particular boss enemy's encounter was programmed. I decided to leave this quirk in the game, as a bit of a "bridge" to leveling up in that area.
The problem you had sounds like something that pops up under only the most specific of circumstances, and I am sorry that it happened to you. Hopefully, this experience does not sour you on the game.
None of the bugs we encountered and corrected during programming ever affected the save system, especially to the point of erasing a saved game. What I would recommend, is that you pop open your game cartridge with a Phillips head screw driver and ensure that the battery on your game board is firmly secured. Though we haven't had any issues with loose batteries since we redesigned the battery holder for the third production run of the game, it is better to be safe than sorry.
If you should have any future questions or curiousities, please feel free to bring them to my direct attention. Thanks.
