Listening to the synthesizer, bass, and melody of this 30+ year old song made me think of the Genesis. It almost sounds like I'm listening to a BGM played off it's hardware.

Not really. While the DX-7/TX-81z are indeed Yamaha produced FM synthesizers, they are
vastly superior to the synthesizer used in the Genesis/Megadrive.
It's kind of like claiming that a Mustang should be able to perform just as well as the GT500
because they are both Ford produced sports cars.
Hmm.... I don't know how true it is to the Genesis sound chip, but I came across this one:

Oh, and skip to the 17 second mark, or you'll be dealing with 17 seconds of dead space.
Also, I always though this was the better song featured in that movie:

It'd have plenty of problems: there's virtually no FM used in Axel F. Could something kind of similar sounding be produced? Yes, but it would lack the richness that the mainly analogue synth powered original track has.
What an awesome theme song.
Although I agree the Genny doesn't necessarily have all the guts to pull it off, I'd still want to hear what it would sound like through it.
^er...what did you think the first video in my post was? Again, I'm not sure exactly how accurate to the sound font of the Genesis chip it is, but at least someone tried.
I came across this. It uses the 2151 + PCM in FL studio, so it's not the same
Maybe the Genny could somehow pull off the theme using the infamous Murphy 'laugh', :p
SEGA CD anyone? Ya know that device works with the SEGA Genesis?
Anyways, this is one of my favourite songs when I`m driving. It stays on repeat until I get to my destination. I hope Paramount makes a follow up announcement later this year as to when we might expect a Beverly Hills Cops IV to be released. And hopefully no PG rating! We need Axel Foley to let his mouth loose. Not old enough to watch an R rated movie? Too bad! Wait until you are a bit older so you can enjoy the humour! :p
Here's a newer shot at it:

Cool thread, the OP sounds almost exactly like the Genesis. It also sounds almost exactly the same as the Genesis version that's posted a few posts later. Very cool. The Genesis had so much potential that was probably untapped... Just a little more memory space could do wonders (like the "SEGA" song in the Sonic games).
