Visual novel AMEBA coming to Dreamcast and Saturn

Some of you may have read about this already. A few days ago, Tom Charnock from The Dreamcast Junkyard published an interview with, uh... yours truly actually, about our small team Retro Sumus and the two indie games for Dreamcast we are currently developing.

One of them, Ameba, is a detective adventure set in Madrid, Spain. A western-made visual novel we plan to release on both Dreamcast and Saturn. We know how crazy it sounds but we've been doing our homework and believe it's doable :)

And I am very curious how you will get the CD to work on a stock Saturn...?

Our lead programmer Chui (aka Daniel Lancha, aka the man behind the programming of Pier Solar HD) is doing his research and he believes there's a way... :P

I was half-expecting some sort of cartridge boot on the Saturn. But, CD only? This will be very interesting! :)

I'm hooked. Can't wait.

Just something I noticed: The shadow cast by the female lead is off. It should be positioned from left to right, not towards the camera (viewing angle). The strong light eminating from the window would direct the shadow towards the right. One thing that would to this fact is the shadow cast by the window ledge.

Anyways, this game sounds interesting.

The sample stage music for Project Q/Xenocider sounds awesome! Since I favour more arcade like games, I find this project more appealing. Is it safe to assume that the revenue generated from the first game will help fund this 3D arcade style game? The fact that Xenocider will be a 3D tribute to Space Harrier incorporating Galaxy Force and Sin & Punishment really peaks my interest! Be sure to provide updates on the forums! All the best with both projects!

Wow. Thanks for the coments, guys. It's really a labour of love for us and we're really excited about both projects and the reception they have been getting so far.

So... yeah, those are the first screenshots of Xenocider and that's a piece of music that will be featured in the "industrial" stage. I don't want to spoil things just yet ;)

About funding/revenue/etc... We think Xenocider may be completed before Ameba and not the other way around. As much as building our 3D worlds from scratch (low-level coding and all that jazz) may be a ton of work, Ameba needs lots of original art, story and specific scripts. So, while Xenocider is more ambitious technically speaking, Ameba is far more ambitious regarding the kind of work needed to finish it. I hope my words make sense, sorry for my english :P

Well, we are still discussing what the best solution will be. I'll make sure to keep you guys posted. Of course you can always follow us on Facebook and Twitter as well, where I answer all comments myself :)

Using a cart to boot up the game would be more expensive, but has some benefits if you use it to store and access some data more quickly. But in counterpart, it would be amazing if you could circumvent the protection using only CD. I suppose you are thinking of produce the CDs in a different way, right?
Also, I'm pretty excited about Xenocider, I hope you guys try to achieve the 3D limit of the DC and make a kick-ass gameplay like Sin and Punishment Star Successor.

SATURN VERSION?

How considerate for those of us that don't own a dreamcast. :)

I'd buy the saturn version!
