I have a few questions about the "Guitar Idol" Mega Drive 4 from Tectoy.
1)Does anyone know if it's possible to purchase just the guitar from Tectoys Mega Drive 4 system or do you have to buy the whole set?
2)How much would it be to buy one?
3)Is the guitar compatible with a NTSC Sega Genesis Model 0?
4)Has anyone figured out how the buttons on the guitar map to the buttons on a Sega Genesis?
Any assistance in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

As far as I know, the Guitar wasn't available separately, only as a set. Also, the "Guitar Idol" models are currently not available, not even at TecToy Brazil. I know a guy who got one of those sets (in its later iteration with 100 built-in games and an SD-Slot for playing MP3s - and MP3s only). Apparently, the Guitar Idol game itself doesn't run on 100% native hardware, but instead in some kind of emulated environment. SO it uses it's own interpretation of button input, specifically laid out for the guitar controller. As such, I strongly doubt that you could use the guitar in any form on any console other than the "Guitar Idol" type Mega Drive 4. Though that is only assumption on my part, if you want I could try asking the guy I know if he tried the guitar on another type of Mega Drive / Genesis.Quote:

Has anyone tried gutting an old guitar hero guitar and altering the insides to work like a mega drive 6 button control pad? Up and Down act as the strumming mechanism and then A, B, C, X, Y as the notes. Not sure what you could do about the wammy bar though maybe just have it flag the Z button?

Ok, I got the answer. Apparently you can neither use the guitar controller on a regular Genesis, nor can you use a standard Genesis pad on that console - you have to use the pack-in pads.
Guitar Idol can only be played with the guitar Controller. So that controller is proprietary, not mapped to any gamepad buttons.
That game runs using the shitty cellphone-like hardware of that """"""""""""""""""""""Mega Drive"""""""""""""""""""""""""" AFAIK. Don't let a cheapo plastic case fool you.

This is sadly depressing. With no real guitar controller to hock up to your genny the best that can be done is a D-PAD Hero like clone for the genny or a weird setup involving strumming the dpad while holding the required button. The first one makes the game not so special while the second one will give you carpal tunnel after awhile as well as feeling awkward and possibly braking the dpad. :(Quote:
