I guess I missed it on accident. (Oops!) I have it saved now.

Here's my list. Since we're only allowed one track per game, I've taken more into account than just how much I like the track in particular - including how much I like the rest of the soundtrack, how 'genesis specific' it is (multi platform games get lower rankings), etc.

I'm missing quite a few common favourites from the list (mostly the RPGs and several platformers) - quite simply, I haven't played the games and haven't listened to the soundtracks. I'll see which ones I need to check out when this thread gets tallied :)

If there's one game I'm surprised I left off even though I've played it, it's Comix Zone - I actually couldn't stand listening to the sound track, every single track has the same guitar tone and I found it very grating.

Just as a note, you're going to have to be pretty careful with game names as well as track names, I see lots of games in people's list that are the same game but referred to as different names :)

eg Lightening Force == Thunderforce IV, Devil Crash == Dragon's Fury, etc...

Wouldn't want to see any of these games get less than they deserve!

I'm still counting. Right now, I'm doing the most voted games list, not the song list. I'll have them posted as soon as they're counted.

It's going to take a while to count. For the games list, I have to look at the next item on the list, see it it's already on the list, then add the vote. It's pretty slow. That's for the games list. For the songs list, it will probably take even longer.

It will get done. It will just take time.

Not quite rotten in age but almost dead bump! Man, I still listen to the playlist I made for this, and love it. There are a couple of tracks I'm not entirely happy with position (or even inclusion)-wise anymore, but would really love to see the results of the intent of this thread :)

I'm sorry I haven't been able to compile the list as I had promised. It was taking waaay more work and time than I had imagined. Working full time as well as having other responsibilities meant compiling the list didn't get much attention from me. Counting the votes was taking forever. I had gotten about half though my "per game" count. The "per song" count was going to take way longer still.

i will say that sonic 1, 2, SOR 1 and 2 and Chakan soundtracks helped my ex-gf's kid goto sleep and further her pursit into music (she's young but still, it's never too early!). that chakan stage select is haunting and peaceful all at the same time.

Most surprising to me is Hydrocity Zone Act II from Sonic 3 and the Galaxy Force II track. Except for Michael Jackson & friends' work on Sonic 3, there is only one non-Japanese composer on the list, Jesper Kyd at the very bottom. No Matt Furniss, Chris Hülsbeck or Howard Drossin. Maybe they will be at the top composer list.

Was looking forward to put some Ragnacenty and Matt Furniss on the list myself :) I love his stuff on games like Alien3, Wiz n Liz, Legend of Galahad and Bram Stoker's Dracula. Favorite western composer.

You sure compiled that quickly! I don't know why, but it was taking me forever. Kind of bummed out to not see any Howard Drossin. I know two of his works were high on my list.

Man, that Devilish track is already a favourite of mine. I have the Game Gear version, but yeah, that sound chip isn't quite the same.

It also irks me that Flying Battery Zone from S&K is in there twice - even though I voted for one of them :p

I don't suppose you can easily make a version of the list which is per-game (i.e. cumulative scores per game to see which games overall have the best soundtracks)?

Was looking forward to put some Ragnacenty and Matt Furniss on the list myself :) I love his stuff on games like Alien3, Wiz n Liz, Legend of Galahad and Bram Stoker's Dracula. Favorite western composer.

I should say Super Fantasy Zone – Mango gets an honourable mention as that tune got 4 votes, which, if we went by number of votes and not score, would have granted it a shared 4th place.

fluxcore: The list is good, but the Space Harrier track has very low quality, if you can find another one it would be great. Also, the Zero Wing track is from the arcade version, and sounds worse than the MD version even!

Obviously, this is my personal top 30 and the fruit of my experience.
To me, Ragnacenty has the best videogame soundtrack of all time. Great track variety, perfect sound design and a wide use of many different instruments. Even the Data Select theme is gorgeous.
Matt Furniss is my favorite western composer.
Sunsoft releases are always top-notch music quality.

I liked adding a meme track as the last one.

I am particularly fond of Bram Stoker's Dracula and D&D: Warriors of the Eternal Sun soundtracks, but I tried being objective.
Sakimoto's "Sortie" from Gauntlet deserved being up there, but I'm not stressing my order/list/top30 too too much, just having fun with it.
