I heard we're getting a new prime minister
I think I know the perfect guy for the job.

Sorry I forget who that is, I haven't watched South Park in like 9 years. It was my least favourite out of rotten cartoons like Beavis N Butthead, Family Guy
Is anyone else seeing those "Stop Harper" stop signs around town? I saw like 5 while I was driving yesterday
eh
Hopefully ...
I read about this phenomenon in an article a news article. I have yet to come a Stop sign that includes the political sticker.
Anyways, it's just one indication as to how strongly people feel about his policies. Just yesterday he unnecessarily raises the spectre of discrimination by voicing his willingness to pass legislation banning Muslim face covering for anyone dealing with — or working for — the federal government. Why is this Prime Minister raising this issue during the election campaign? It's a statement meant to rile his support base. What I am happy to see is that "Progressive" Conservative personalities voice their disdain for his divisive politics and state unequivocally to Moderate Conservatives not to vote for Stephen Harper.
For those voters who want to oust this imbecile from power, they need to look at which opposition MP (either Liberal or NDP and in a minute case Bloc Quebecois or Green) is projected to win in their district and vote that MP into power. One can easily check the riding projections via this link: http://www.threehundredeight.com/p/canada.html
In my district, the Liberal MP is projected to win handily. And based on that piece of information, I am voting Liberal. If the NDP candidate was projected to win, I would have voted NDP.
Since we're discussing the federal election, tomorrow is the first day for advanced polling and I am casting my vote early. I can't wait!
If Harper is removed from office, I am literally going to celebrate with a bottle of Scotch and a giant piece of steak! I hope really hope that we see the NDP and the Liberals form a coalition to ensure the removal of some of the stupid policy decisions this nincompoop enacted.
If Harper is removed, I'm gonna celebrate with you guys, and with my local bros, everyone.
Do any of you guys live in the Maritimes? I'm curious about that place. I wanna move to a different province next year. Been in B.C. for 20+ years, its time for a change.
Looks like the strategic vote is slowly taking shape.Poll shows NDP’s Quebec lead evaporates as strategic voters switch to Trudeau & the Liberals:
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/...ticle26728061/
Another thing that might impact the election ever so slightly is the youth vote.
=-=
I've yet to visit the Maritimes myself but I occasionally speak to people from that area of the country who tend to be alot most polite and friendly compared to your typical Torontonian!
I don't know about up there in lumberjack land,
but we frown on defacing vital traffic devices and I'd bet if it were happening here there would
be quite a few arrests and fights, maybe even a death or two.
I have nothing but good will towards your own wishes for your country,
they may not have thought that one out though.
I mean you pretty much have to look at it if it's on the stop sign,
so yeah it gets the word out, but if it's ok to do that then who else is gonna promote their
services on the road signs?
Yeah maybe they didn't do it themselves(the politician) and there are just a few radicals out there doing this,
but you can't deny they came up with the idea of the stop sign.
So they are to blame when your street signs become like car bumpers and your country goes broke cause you
spent all your money on gas and never got to work because the signs that led you there are now billboards.
Over here we prosecute vandals and with good reason.
If you think this is stupid what about the moron who runs the stop sign cause he isn't "Harper".
:p
All these Yankees are coming to my Canadian thread...
just kidding I love you guys.
The stop signs aren't the only thing. There people on Craigslists giving away free "Stop Harper" stuff of all kinds. Probably even cat collars.
I got my election card in the mail today. My whole family is gonna vote for the same person. I'm pretty sure.
Liberals now lead Conservatives by 6% according to yesterday's Nanos poll: LPC: 34.8%; CPC: 28.6%; NDP: 24.9%
(SOURCE: http://nanosresearch.com/main.asp)
Let's see if the pollsters get it right this election! :p Good news for Trudeau. Mulcair needs to pick it up. And Harper needs to continue to act like a buffoon! :p
I hear Trailer Park Boys is an accurate representation.Quote:

I like how that sounds. I root for Trudeau.
Actually, a polar bear is featured on every paper bill and coin, besides the $2 one.
With a bit of manipulation, our Canadian money features Spock on the face of the bill too:

I was just pondering on the "Stop Harper" campaign when it suddenly occurred to me that it may harken back to the situation on June 3, 2011 when a lone paige in the House of Commons, Brigette DePape, who stood in protest during the Throne Speech in the Senate, silently holding up a sign that said "Stop Harper!"
http://www.thestar.com/content/dam/t...oar/depape.jpg
Anyways, as of 6 a.m. today Trudeau and the Liberals have increased their lead over Harper and the Conservatives to 6.8 percentage points in the latest #Nanos Research poll: http://nanosresearch.com/main.asp
I love the aggressive facial expression that little woman has.
4 more days people!!! No more Canadians here? Black Tiger I know you lurking, and other lower-mainland citizens
Hehe! Yea Brigette DePape is a little rebel. That was a pretty bold move on her part!
Nanos research is projecting a 7 percentage point lead for the Liberals while the Ekos poll shows that the Liberals lead by 5 percentage points.
There was a bit of a scandal that occurred yesterday with a revelation that Justin Trudeau's national campaign co-chair sent a detailed email to people behind the Energy East pipeline with advice on how and when to lobby a new government. He stepped down. But there was another scandal by the Conservatives yesterday: "Federal Finance Minister Joe Oliver charged taxpayers hundreds of dollars to upgrade his seat on flights and spent more than $5,000 twice on in-country flights during his time as a cabinet minister." So much for looking after taxpayers' pennies!
Advance polls see more than 70-per-cent increase in voter turnout from the last election with 3.6 million votes cast! Amazing! Let's hope that voter apathy is kept at bay on October 19th 2015! Every vote counts!
I voted Liberal in the advanced polls. NDP became obsessed with winning the election instead of remaining honest and credible, and the Liberal platform is solid. I always prefer a centrist government anyway, too far left or right usually has problems.
But yes, don't become apathetic and be sure to vote, getting Harper out isn't a sure thing till it's done.
Last election, the 20-30 year olds too lazy to vote in the first place ramped up their rhetoric, bitching about plans to move to another country. As if getting off your ass every 4-5 years and voting over a 2 week period was harder to do in the first place.
Liberals will probably win, borrow more money, ignore progressive ideas like a national formulary, public heath insurance, and disregard the nationalization of a Quebec daycare model. Liberals will probably break every promise like usual. That's OK though, drama queen Trudeau has nice hair, and he wants to legalize weed. Priorities.
Welcome back Knuckle Duster! Welcome back indeed. We'll have to see what kind of policies Trudeau and the Liberals will introduce if and when Harper is unseated from his high horse. Will Trudeaumania 2.0 bring about a majority government or might we see a coalition with Mulcair and the NDP? If the latter, will both leaders even agree to the unholy alliance?
Meh whatever! For over a decade, I've known that Harper was bad for the country. And it's taken over a decade for Canadians to wake up and smell the coffee!
Who elects a leader who's not willing to take questions from the media? What kind of chicken sh*t is that! Cherry picking questions does not lend credence to his platform of open and transparent government. Transparency and accountability? Whether you realize it or not, we`ve got just the opposite. Nothing this administration has done is open and transparent. File an access to information request and you won`t get a response for months! Department statistics are no longer published online! And now this government has adopted Bill C-51! I don`t think Canadians realize how much power they are relinquishing to government, law enforcement, and security agencies with the adoption of this so called Anti-Terrorism Act. We`ve essentially become a Police State! no checks and balances via the courts! Government, law enforcement, and CSIS/CSEC can act as they see fit!
I found it quite funny how Stephen Harper, Jason Kenney, and Chris Alexander whitewashed the whole Duffy scandal. And none can deny that raising this so-called niqab debate was a tactical move to obfuscate how the PMO's office (and possiby Harper himself) were in the know about the $90k cheque. In his testimony, Harper's legal adviser, Benjamin Perrin, referred to an email in which Harper's then chief of staff Nigel Wright wrote "we are good to go from the PM." (Incidentally this former PMO lawyer stated today that Stephen Harper and the Tories have lost the moral authority to govern.:p)
Good to go? Good to go? Yea it's time for Harper to go! The fact that he and his henchmen (Jason Kenney and all) were quick to condemn crack toking Rob Ford 12 months ago but this weekend decided to court him and his brother Doug Ford along the campaign trail just goes to show how desperate Harper and the Tories are in hopes of securing power. The right leaning daily National Post even described the Saturday night event as a brand new low for a conservative party that has abandoned so very many of its conservative principles. You know what's scary? If Harper keeps his word and steps down as leader, we have half-witted politicians like Jason Kenney waiting in the wings ready to grab the reigns and adopt a Donald Trump style of yapping ... erm ... governing! Back in November this cretin went so far as to say on Twitter that Mexican nationals were taking jobs away from Canadians! What?!?!!!! Can you believe that this preposterous statement was uttered from an individual who was the former Minister of Immigration & Citizenship? He summarily stepped away from that role when he realized what a mess he created and he handed that portfolio to an equally loose lipped simpleton named Chris Alexander! It's too bad that the Conservative party lost Peter MacKay as I think he would be an effective leader. But who can blame him? When orders are coming directly from the PMO's office to beat a dead horse at the Supreme Court as a way to gain traction during the campaign, who can blame Mackay for leaving politics. If you are the Justice Minister, you alone should make the decision whether to pursue a given issue or not. It will be interesting what sordid tales we will here from Tories themselves should their party lose tomorrow.
Speaking of which, while this supposed niqab issue was being debated in the House of Commons, I found it quite humorous to see Tim Uppal, a sikh who proudly wears a turban, defend his party's stance about not allowing the niqab during a Citizenship ceremony. Oh really Mr. Uppal? How soon we forget that back in March 16, 1990 it was Baltej Singh Dhillon who won the fight to wear the turban as a Royal Canadian Mounted Police officer. Thank you to the Chief Justices at the Supreme Court of Canada (who incidentally are all right leaning Conservatives) for upholding the Charter of Rights and Freedoms and allowing Zunera Ishaq to wear the niqab at her Canadian Citizenship ceremony. Incidentally she became a Canadian citizen on October 9 2015 and will be casting her vote for a party/leader who does not involve him or herself with divisive politics.
I for one will celebrate tomorrow should Harper get knocked off his high chair! I`ve waited for this event for nearly a decade and I will celebrate with a nice glass of good quality Glenfiddich!
If Harper announces that he is retiring from politics tomorrow, I will down two glasses and cheer,"Good riddance to bad policy and backward thinking politicians!"
I`ll down a third the moment I hear that he`s left 24 Sussex Drive!
Well at least that part sounds like me
Its gotta be legalized either way. I don't care much, I only do it twice a month, but I live near some serious addicts that could be taxed to hell. Imagine the tax money generated from all B.C. stoners.
Liberals > Harper again.
Trudeau never worked a real day in his life, I don't understand why anyone would vote for him.
Funny you should mention that! I was just thinking why ANYONE would vote for Harper. In any case, Atlantic Canada just gave their vote of confidence to Trudeau! Every single riding in Atlantic Canada just went Liberal. Let me break it down: all 33 seats went red! A virtual bloodbath!
*raises glass* Cheers! LOL!
Time to see how the rest of Canada fairs! Maintenant c'est Quebec! :p
Hahaha! It's curtains for Harper! Pack your bags and leave 24 Sussex Drive with your pooch in toe!
The only thing left is whether we'll get a Liberal minority or majority government!
I'm forgoing the glass of scotch and instead will celebrate with a slice of Tiramisu instead! :p
*raises spoon*
DOWN THE HATCH IT GOES!
I dun fucked up. Didn't vote. Misread the time-span that the election office would be open.
Doesn't really matter, I was gonna vote Liberals and Liberals still won.
Now to see what type of alcoholic beverages I got laying around.
GAME OVER FOR THE HARPER REGIME! While Stephen Harper gave his thank you speech to his supporters in Calgary, the Conservative party president, John Walsh, sent an email confirming that he will be stepping down as Conservative leader.
Ah! A decade of divisive, autocratic dishonest politics is finally over! Looks like I will have to open that bottle of GlenFiddich!
Final seat distribution at the close of the election:
LIBERAL 184
CONSERVATIVE 99
NDP 44
BLOC QUEBECOIS 10
GREEN PARTY 1

God damn, look at how many regions there are in Southern Ontario.
This makes me wonder how much Canada will change. Someone else in charge, after 10 years of the same guy. And I bet Pierre Trudeau is extremely proud.
I managed to find some Indian Pale Ale. Its made in Nova Scotia, so its appropriate for this occasion.
Not much will change. Pierre Trudeau is extremely dead already.
If the India Pale Ale is Alexander Keith's, it's all over the country and it's not a real IPA by any modern beer standard. Probably brewed & bottled at the plant in Edmonton which is hit or miss on making it right for what it is back in Nova Scotia. It's been grandfathered in with the IPA name as a brand and is more akin to Bud, Blue, Canadian, etc.
If it's Garrison or Propeller IPA you're drinking, cheers.
Pierre's spirit can still see his son kicking ass.
Yea its Alexander Keiths. Its alcohol thats not Budweiser or any other piss water variety, thats all I care.
Yeah, Keiths is just another nationalized piss water variety though. It's not a real IPA at all, and it's only a step above the cheap shit like Lucky or Wildcat. When drinking it, you might as well be drinking Budweiser or Canadian. It's somewhat comparable to Blue because it's so gassy.
I drank that shit most of my life. I am from Nova Scotia.
Knowing is half the battle. Keith's isn't an IPA, or anything special as far as selection goes. It's a nationalized piss-beer brewed alongside other piss like Bud, Blue, Canadian, and Moosehead.
As for my negativity, Liberals have governed before and supporting them has fucked over the Atlantic region for decades. It is currently a welfare state and economic hell hole. Right now the provincial Liberals affiliated with the federal party are annihilating what's left of Nova Scotia. The region-wide Trudeaumania is, at best, another desperate cry for relief or some form of assistance. A chance to be on the winning team, despite it never doing anything good.
For Trudeau to get my approval, I want to see voting reform, a national pharmacare formulary, and I want to see solid action on universal drug insurance coverage. I wouldn't mind seeing some of the old Liberals resign too. That would give me a laugh.
With the changing of the guard and the search of an interim leader, some of the old faces of the Conservative party are throwing their hats into the ring.
Defence Minister Jason Kenney,
Transport Minister Lisa Raitt,
Health Minister Rona Ambrose,
Labour Minister Kellie Leitch,
Minister of State for Small Business and Tourism Maxime Bernier,
Treasury Board President Tony Clement,
Maybe even former Justice Minister Peter Mckay.
Today a relatively new face used Twitter to announce her interest. Michelle Rempel touted herself as a potential candidate to replace Stephen Harper. She attrracted attention after she announced her interest on Twitter (https://twitter.com/MichelleRempel).
Worst person to consider from those listed: Jason Kenney. He makes some of the most outlandish statements and tends to put a foot in his mouth each time he tries to make a point. The only MP worse than him was Paul Callandra who would, as you may remember, purposely uttered nonsense when asked to respond to questions from the opposition. What a freaking joke. But what is an even bigger joke is that even though he lost his seat in his district of Markham-Stouffville, 25,000 plus people still voted for him despite his incredulous record. Luckily, 29,000 people elected a Liberal MP to defeat this imbecile from returning as an a Member of parliament. Anyways, Kenney's far right style of governing is more likely to turn off voters when the next election rolls around. We've had enough of that with Harper.
Two other MPs who are not deserving of consideration are Rona Ambrose and long time stalwart Tony Clement. Ambrose has done shit with the portfolios she's had (Minister of the environment, Minister responsible for the status of women, and the Minister of Health. Utterly useless. Tony Clement, on the other hand, is a long time politician: He was an Ontario MPP that served under Mike Harris and Ernie Eves before transitioning into federal politics. The problem with Tony Clement is that he lacks charisma and has a meek persona.
If I was to consider one person from the list it would be Peter Mckay. Principled and fair, he is most likely to attract voters from across Canada to expand the base.
Trudeau boy released an open letter on his first day:
http://pm.gc.ca/eng/news/2015/11/04/...tter-canadiansQuote:
My dear friends,
Today, I had the pleasure of introducing our team of extraordinary Canadians who will serve as Ministers in your new government. As a Canadian, you expect to see your values and priorities reflected in your government – and we have listened closely. Our strong, diverse, and experienced team will serve all Canadians, and – for the first time in our country’s history – there will be an equal number of women and men around the Cabinet table.
Over the course of the campaign, we promised you a government that will bring real change – in both the things we do and the way we do them. We will immediately start implementing our plan for a strong and growing middle class. On Election Day, you sent a clear message, and you rightly expect us to fulfill our promises.
I am writing to you, today, to reaffirm my commitment to spend the next four years working hard to deliver on those promises. It is time for leadership that never seeks to divide Canadians, but takes every single opportunity to bring us together, including in Parliament.
We made a commitment to invest in growing our economy, strengthening our middle class, and helping those working hard to join it. We committed to fighting climate change and protecting our environment. We made a commitment to provide more direct help to those who need it by giving less to those who do not. We committed to public investment as the best way to spur growth, job creation, and economic prosperity. And we committed to a responsible, transparent fiscal plan for challenging economic times. We expect you to hold the government accountable for delivering these commitments.
Our country faces many real and immediate challenges – from a struggling middle class to the threat of climate change. If we are to overcome these obstacles, Canadians need to have faith in their government’s honesty and willingness to listen. That is why we committed to set a higher bar for openness and transparency in Ottawa. Government and its information must be open by default. Simply put, it is time to shine more light on government to make sure it remains focused on the people it was created to serve – you.
But in order for you to trust your government, you need a government that will trust you. When we make a mistake – as all governments do – it is important that we acknowledge that mistake and learn from it. We know that you do not expect us to be perfect – but you expect us to work tirelessly, and to be honest, open, and sincere in our efforts to serve the public interest.
Before the election, we also made a commitment to bring new leadership and a new tone to Ottawa. Moving forward, we will pursue our goals and objectives with a renewed sense of collaboration. We fully understand and appreciate that partnerships with provincial, territorial, and municipal governments are vital to deliver the real, positive change that we promised you.
It is also time for a renewed, Nation-to-Nation relationship with Indigenous Peoples, one based on a recognition of rights, respect, co-operation, and partnership. Not only is this the right thing to do, but it is also a sure path to economic growth.
To close, I am deeply grateful to have this opportunity to serve you – and every Canadian across our great country. I am committed to leading an open, honest government that is accountable to Canadians, lives up to the highest ethical standards, brings our country together, and applies the utmost care and prudence in the handling of public funds.
Thank you for having faith in me. Thank you for putting your trust in our team.
We will not let you down.
Rt. Hon. Justin Trudeau, P.C, M.P.
Prime Minister of Canada - See more at: http://pm.gc.ca/eng/news/2015/11/04/....qtSafM6J.dpuf
Got no comment really. Just the usual stuff hes been saying for months.
I am kinda curious about his First Nation plans. I'm not one, but its something I'm trying to become more educated in. I recently learned there used to be a Native group in Newfoundland, they were all killed by European diseases.
Actually in the short time since becoming elected, he's been quite a bit active behind the scenes. Instead of simply relying on the initial screening process that all Liberal candidates underwent, his team vetted all candidates a second time to determine (1) whether there was anything in the MP's background that could reflect bad on the party and (2) whether there was anyone within their circle of friends or family that could damage the party's brand. The Liberals are taking no chance of a Rob Ford scenario taking place. Scandals have brought all parties to their knees for the last 15 years. Based on their responses, the 31 cabinet ministers were chosen. Most people are extremely happy with the current crop of ministers chosen.
We now have a gender balanced cabinet and one which includes at least one cabinet minister from each province, what the media has dubbed as giving a strong voice for constituents. A pretty smart move on Trudeau's part.
Another item that most are not aware of is the fact that Trudeau and his team have already had a meeting with the top bureaucrats from across the country who head the various government departments in order to determine whether the promises that were made during the election are feasible and if so how they could be implemented.
As it's already been mentioned, amendments to Bill C-51 are already being worked on.
Our newly-minted immigration minister John McCallum is already planning to discuss with all levels of government of how to achieve the plan to bring 25,000 Syrian refugees to Canada. Whether he meets the deadline is inconsequential. The important thing is that he makes headway and moves in a positive direction rather than a regressive one, someone that was characteristic of the Harper administration (remember the initial promise of bringing a measly 3,000 Syrian refugees to Canada and not any headway at all for almost 1 full year? What a joke!)
I fully expect Trudeau to redress the grievances of the First Nations people, first of which is giving credence to the idea of calling a national inquiry into missing and murdered aboriginal women. Harper simply ignored the issue altogether. His approach to the issue only demonstrated how out of touch and insular he is with respect to certain communities in Canada. Case in point: His comments linking Islam to terrorism. And outright fanning the flames of intolerance by raising the issue of wearing the niqab at the Canadian citizenship ceremonies.
Well I suppose I should end here that the Conservative Party has elected Rona Ambrose as interim leader. Hardy har har! A supposed facelift for the party. Nope! At best, they've appointed a nincompoop who was shown her ineptitude with respect to handling the portfolio of the environment, the status of women, and Health. She lacks the charisma and depth in terms of critiquing the governing party. She will definitely be outshone by the likes of Mulcair. I am quite happy that he's decided to stay on as the leader of the NDP! He'll definitely do a better job at holding the Liberal government to account. He's definitely a WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY better orator than Ambrose. To put it bluntly, the Tories errored. I don't like Jason Kenney but he would have been better suited for the position as interim leader.
Lol, enjoy your "full complament" of refugees. It's adorable you think political "change" means something, though.
3 million people displaced in Syria. Let that number sink into your brain for a minute. There is a reason why refugees are flowing into Europe. If you were dropped in the heart of Syria today, I don't think you would consider the situation "adorable" in the least.
