Has it dawned on you that many of us here bashing Nintendo (like myself) have been life long supporters who are not pleased with how this company is showing itself in the market it once commanded?

The Wii is the best gaming device Nintendo has ever released. I'll never understand all the hate it gets here.
No, because most of you haven't quit bitching about Nintendo consoles since the N64 debuted. So why, oh why, do you continue to whine about their decisions now? Knowing full well they're never going to make a Playstation or Xbox clone. The days of their making a mainstream game console are long gone, they're done, they're over, they're dead. Obviously their decisions over the years have not been so catastrophically stupid as to put themselves out of business like Sega (RIP). They still make products that people support, and as hard as it is for you to believe, they support them because they enjoy them.
If you haven't liked a Nintendo product since the early 90s, give it up. Quit beating a dead horse. When did Nintendo command the market? During the NES when they used shady practices to monopolize console gaming? Maybe, but not since then. After they realized the competition Sega was bringing, and deciding to bail on and make a rival of Sony, they knew they wanted to cover their tracks and do their own thing and have done so ever since. They have chosen not to compete as a clone of other companies, but to be their own, and they have shown for more than 20 years that they can do that. I don't think there is a single other game company out there who could stand on their own two feet this way. You want them to release a PlayStation clone and bottom themselves out in an already over-saturated not to mention dying console market? It's not gonna happen.
For some reason there remains hope that Nintendo will start listening to the people who are putting billions of dollars into the gaming market rather than marching to the beat of their own drum that is taking them straight down the path of irrelevancy. The base keeps shrinking from gen to gen and eventually there won't be any more people to support this company in the home console market.
Nintendo started going the way of the dinosaur when the shot callers decided to ignore rather than embrace new technology and advances. We'll make a powerful console yet continue with carts. We'll make a powerful console but use proprietary mini discs. While others are offering true online functionality we'll give the bare minimum. When we make it difficult to interact with other people on the console, MS and Sony will make it easy. When the competition is selling 40% greater than the same time with their prior consoles, what will we do? We'll announce a new console to replace the abortion of one we are selling now and, ya, announce a "new" Mario tennis game for the holiday season that is sure to compete with Halo, Fallout, Battlefront, etc.., Unless Zelda does release for and only on the Wii U, that will most likely be the next time I turn on the console unless something wild happens like releasing Zero Mission on the eShop or something along the lines of a miracle of god.
Nintendo is like a train wreck that is so bad you just can't bring yourself to look away.
Do you know the frustrating part? It wouldn't have taken much to have transformed these poor showing consoles (Wii being the anomaly) into something much better but Nintendo's unwritten motto is "We know what you want better than you do."
I'm looking forward to seeing what the NX has to offer, hopefully Nintendo have learned from recent mistakes (their diabolical online model, 3rd party void on the Wii U, and their digital pricing particularly the VC is horrendously bad value imo). I say all that as a Nintendo fan too!
So, you're pissed because you want a better multi-player experience on a Nintendo console, but you don't particularity care for, or have much interest in the games that they put out nowadays. So... why not use your PlayStation? Evidently you won't be missing anything worthwhile.
I've had a PS3 and a 360 for ages, and do you know how many times I've gone online with them? None. Don't know if I'd count as being typical of the Nintendo fan base, but I give no fucks about it. It's one of the reasons why a PS4 or Xbox doesn't interest me in the least. The plethora of games they have designed around online multiplayer is great, if you're into that. I'm not. Other than Mario Marker, most Nintendo aren't designed around that concept. It might sound like a cop-out, but I think there's something to be said for gathering around with friends, in person, to play some multiplayer on a Nintendo console. Hard to believe, but people still like to do that. Nintendo games are still great for that.
The Wii U pad on the other hand, works wonders with the browser and I use it basically every day to surf the web and control my gaming setup. Something I couldn't have done nearly as well with another console. Meanwhile, Nintendo keeps providing all of their staple franchises and it's enough to keep me satisfied with the console.
A train wreck? Maybe by comparison to something else that you think they should be doing. By their own count, they're doing alright. If you combine total hardware sales this gen, it's on par with their "competitors". They've been gracefully exiting the traditional home console market for some time as evidenced by their better support and marketing behind the 3DS, the NX being the next logical step for them, IMO anyway.
I'm annoyed because Nintendo has half assed it for a very long time and who do they blame for their shortcomings? Us. As an example, look back to E3 when Metroid Federation Force was as well received as Hitler walking through the Warsaw Ghetto. Reggie blamed the fans for not understanding it. How about his bullshit excuse for having footage of Zelda but not showing it for reasons not making any sense?
MP games are not relevant as I can name plenty third party games I've played on the X1 (not on the Wii U) free from having such play. Nintendo keeps offering the same crap and then wonders why the base keeps shrinking. Alien Isolation is a superb single player game and unless I'm living in a cave, it's not on the Nintendo console. Maybe Wolfenstein? Nope. Transformers Devastation? Try again. Arkham Knight? Not this time.
Only a Nintendo mark would somehow combine handheld and home sales and then say they are on par with the competition and if that wasn't what you meant, no, their home console is not on par with the competition. Not even close. The 3DS is selling much lower than the DS and the Wii U is a train wreck. Use whatever words you like and any colors of ink but the Wii U is a train wreck. The shot callers at Nintendo have admitted such. They have given better support to the 3DS because it is selling far better than its other console and most likely it is easier to develop games which is why it has a healthy library. Nintendo righted the 3DS when it was on the wrong path. Somehow the shot callers thought the Wii U would sell itself on name recognition alone since the Wii sold well. They screwed it and blew an entire year head start. Why? Because they didn't know their ass from a hole in their head.
