Someone once told me that transferring all of my data from a 250GB HDD to a 500GB HDD wasn't necessary. I told them that the reason I'm doing it is so I can install all of my games while they still have support. I'd bought a used copy of Resistance 3 that I can't even install, because the last update corrupted the game's files on some PS3s.
Ooh this thread got bumped.
I found a sealed Atari Lynx II, couldn't believe my luck on that one. So I opened the fucker to play Batman Returns.
^I bumped it regarding sealed collecting for modern games (7th and 8th gen). Post on previous page.
I found 5 or so sealed Genesis MKII's at a thrift store. I flipped those puppies. I can't bring my self to open a sealed game but don't actively collect them either.
OK yeah, the whole sealed game obsession is already bad enough, but now on modern games? The heck, not even the usual argument works on those. The whole idea behind hoarding old sealed games is that they're rare compared to opened ones, and hence they cost more money due to rarity (so it's all about the money, not about the games)... but how do you apply that to modern games for which there are still tons of sealed games and possibly even still getting new runs?

I've bought and unwrapped a handful of Japanese Saturn and 3DO games over the years. I think it was Burning Rangers, Columns Arcade Collection, Rockman X3, Novastorm, and Belzarian. I like buying a sealed disc game if it's cheap enough because the disc is likely to be pristine. I should have filmed the unwrapping and put it up on youtube.
The only things I have still sealed are my collectors Shining Force Premium Disk for Sega Saturn and my Salamander Collections for PSP. And I'm happy with the plastic seal still on them. Don't know why I'm happy, but I'm happy.

Coming back to this... I can appreciate sealed collecting. It's just not for me. There's something cool about the total preservation of almost anything, video games included. I always consider it when opening a sealed game to play. I have to check around first, and see if there is any general interest in the collecting scene to finding that particular game sealed. You know that for a lot of games, there are so few sealed copies left, and so many already opened. For preservation sake, it seems like a few of them ought to remain sealed somewhere. So I don't wanna be that asshole who's cracking open the only known sealed copy of something.
If I had something really rare to find sealed, I'd probably sell it off and get an opened copy. Right now the closest thing I probably have to that would by a Twilight Princess GC sealed. But there seems to be plenty of them out there, however I don't plan to open it because I bought the Wii U version. I also have a Tempo Jr. sealed which I'm pretty sure is hard to come by.
The only reason I prefer buying sealed is for condition. I like to be the original owner, because then it's always in perfect shape, and all of my original games still look like they were just opened. While most used games that I buy are far less than perfect.

The only sealed games I collect are Heavy Nova and X-Perts. I'm trying to track down as many sealed copies I can of both of them.
