Is this Mega Drive game legit?

Is this Mega Drive Pal board legit? I'm pretty sure it is but with the hype and rise the Genesis/MD has gotten lately,(also the price I paid for this) I like to make extra sure it's the real deal.

I don't see why not. It has a SEGA branded board and ROM chip. Fakes would almost certainly not.

I dunno... If I were out to make repros to pass off as the real deal, I'd make it look like the real thing; board, chip, etc. I remember when Sapphire fakes were being proposed and sold as the real thing. It wasn't easy to tell the difference until a guide came out explaining what to look for.

With Sapphire if you looked at the disc it was easy to tell the difference since it said CARE4DATA right along the inner ring compared to what a real pressed copy said, the tells with the manual, spine and other printed materials were a bit more subtle though.

To fake a game like this on PCB though would require quite a bit of different effort though instead of just scanning stuff in photoshop and touching it up. You'd need the correct original PCBs for the game is there were donors from other titles, but the hardest part would be replicating the chip itself. You'd need to get the right size so no rewiring was needed, the correct time period, style, plus have to have them written in bulk and get the silkscreening on the chip 100% exact to not set off any bells. Faking the label would be easy, or selling a "damaged" copy with a messed up or no label could fly as well. But the chip is the hardest part to fake, that's why everyone still asks for board pics. Once those are fakeable though prices will probably tank as the market would get flooded with fakes for all the high dollar items.

Funny thing is that I recently realize that everything Sega Genesis related that I've modded has only be giving region mod of NTSC/JAP so I had no way of testing this. Thankfully a few days ago I was able to get one of these little Atgames bastard systems with 2 controllers and all wires at a Goodwill for $10.

Game booted and ran fine but sounded beyond shit on this.
