Thank GOD for this thread! lol
Um... what?
Are you just now discovering youtube channels like Classic Game Room?
Um Trekkies, Why are you a downer most of the time?
Amen. This is awesome.
It's like photoshop overdosed.
I'm not being a downer, I just don't see the point of this thread. The screenshots in that image are from videos that are pretty old at this point, short of maybe the Ben Heck one. But even at that it's not like Ben recently changed his views or something.
It's not like people suddenly woke up and realized the Genesis was awesome. Those people have always been there. There's nothing new or amazing to celebrate here. The only person waking up here is Vector in realizing that there really was no conspiracy to erase Sega from gaming history as he previously thought.
Vector you still dwelling on this after 2 years
What did he post something else like this 2 years ago?
I have no problem with Trekkies comments. To answer your questions, I know Teddy Rubskin, CGR Lord K aka Mark was a Sega and Genesis and Truxton fan for years. However after the Ben Heck comparison videos, I didn't know he preferred Genesis over Snes unless he said it and I missed it? I then saw the ps4 teardown and thought it was cool he prefered the Genesis as I did not know that.
Didn't know review guys like in the top right corner and so many newer type of shows https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-MIm...l=implantgames now show the Genesis love and know about the model 1's sound superiority. I couldn't fit everybody I was thinking about in the picture. Even James and Mike's show which again is old, are just now discovering and enjoying gems like Splatterhouse. It is nice to see newer reviewers showing it love in 2015. I am proud of the people who make audio comparison videos and kind of feel the same way I did and still kind of do from the site, seeing the opinion of many or most online opinions are the SNES and its games>Genesis and its games by a 70 to 30% margin or more in my opinion.
Glad this old show is doing this, both James and Mike have been making videos before youtube was popular. And it still took a decade to do a full video like this, even though he mentions the game in a couple of old episodes.
Thanks to the people who knew what this was, a light hearted thread showing there are people showing our console love and still doing so in the midst of the LARGE % of "snes is the best there are no other 16 bit systems". Cool I'm glad you liked the quick picture. Yes my signature explains my love for the genesis and the homebrewers doing many great games for the system while realizing snes does have a great homebrew scene and is a great system but in my opinion I prefer the genesis and all the great homebrew and indie titles like Wolfenstien, Fix it, G-Zero demo, Sonic racing demo, Project Y, Pier Solar, Titan demo, Bad Apple and all the other hard work going on and feel it is superior. Thank you programmers. For all systems actually and also the visual or color updates from people here, audio fixes and so much more.
I made threads similar to this in past, but not many. And not a thread exactly like this. Feel free to search my history of my banned account.

Did anyone notice the Sega hardware PS2 wireless controller? Thank you to everybody and have a good one.
Ben likes the Genesis more than the SNES but also, his favorite 5th gen console is the N64!
What is this sorcery OP?
Ha Ha. Yes I saw that at first. I would go with anything that played Pong then Atari 7800 (As it played both 2600 and 7800 games so that was nice) then NES then Genesis then the PSOne (I like my Saturn but respect to the PSOne) then DC and XBox are tied for me then Wii and I do not currently have an 8th gen console like PS4 or XB1 but I plan to get a PS4 once Shenmue 3 releases maybe. Maybe.
Since 2007 all I heard was "consoles probably won't be made anymore" yet in 2015 consoles are still being made and in the immediate future are planned to release. So maybe I should just use a PC for Shenmue 3 or should I get a PS4? The kind of games I like are a bit old like Ninja Gaiden, Mirrors Edge, Shenmue but I like PS4 games TF Devastation, FIFA, Batman and more. I play the PS4 at my friends house very nice system overall. Isn't everything the same now anyway though they plays games, watch Netflix, stream cheaper games, all in one boxes?
I commented in one of my recent threads that I was surprised that the N64 was so popular but I guess it was, as it was voted #2 behind genesis as best retro console in the UK. Hope you are doing good Soulis thanks for the comment and checking out the thread.
Again though that shouldn't be surprising. It's been on the Wikipedia page for the system since I was in college(2006-2010) at the very least.
Again though this wasn't really a serious thing. Most of this was either crazy Nintendo Fanboys over at NintendoAge or people shitposting for lulz.
Isn't that James and Mike video, where they're still being their usual Nintendo fanboy Genesis hating selves, kind of counterproductive to your message here?
"wow look someone else likes Sega stuff besides us!"
"Again though that shouldn't be surprising. It's been on the Wikipedia page for the system since I was in college(2006-2010) at the very least."
Yes but I don't see many youtube videos saying that in their videos or displaying the model one like people in the picture and a few more. My point was the youtubers showing love to the design and sound parts of model one.
"Again though this wasn't really a serious thing. Most of this was either crazy Nintendo Fanboys over at NintendoAge or people shitposting for lulz."
Perhaps but I see it alot on youtube videos too. There isn't that many professional videos saying the genesis and its top 20 games are better than the snes and its top 20 games. Again Trekkies, I can be mistaken by all this.
"Isn't that James and Mike video, where they're still being their usual Nintendo fanboy Genesis hating selves, kind of counterproductive to your message here?"
You have a point but in the bloodlines video they admit it is a good game, like the special effects, like it is NES style type 16 bit game and more however they haven't made a video yet not talking about Snes and in this case SC4. They really like the Splatterhouse games though like I said and I feel they are opening up more to the genesis and its library but they just can't shake the snes or snes version is better chatter for the most part. Do you kind of see what I mean or do you disagree?
""wow look someone else likes Sega stuff besides us!""
I can see your point. Ha Ha.
The site did a pretty good interview with CGR's Mark Bussler back in 2007.
http://www.sega-16.com/2007/12/interview-mark-bussler/
He's always been open about his Sega fanboyism. He's come a long way since the early days of CGR though. The last 5 years or so, he's given equal attention to just about every console ever. The sheer volume is actually pretty impressive.
Wish they hadn't, then it would be so much cheaper still :(
Do you think both the snes and genesis consoles and games will go up 25% after both the Console War movie and documentary in 2016? I heard nothing since 2014. Are these still happening? Is it hipsters jacking up prices or more people like the forum members trying to keep up with current prices?
blaming 'hipsters' for the price rising of games is the reason why everyone hates all of you
It's not hipsters, classic game collecting (hoarding) has become trendy and mainstream.
...and?
Yeah, I don't see too many hipsters with youtube gaming channels. Most of them look like nerds with nothing better to do. I like playing games and all, but not enough to spend all my spare cash so I can have a big wall of boxes and cases behind me while I ramble and rant as if my opinion really matters.
Nerds grew up, got jobs, and ruined it. Hipsters just copied them.
I blame simple supply and demand for price increases. Hipsters are not cooler than anyone here or elsewhere, they just think they are.
I think there is an element of it being seen as 'cool' now to collect, certainly more so than it was a few years ago. Coupled with supply and demand, and the icnrease in exposure of retro gaming through Youtube shows etc...I think it was inevitable that market prices would rise. I wonder though if the bottom will fall dramatically out of the market when those 'fad' collectors lose interest? Could be some serious buying to do if it does!
I've speculated on this very thing before and the sad fact is that the high price of certain retro games will continue to rise as long as people are silly enough to pay those prices in the first place. Youtube might have made collecting retro games more popular to an extent but Youtube itself, along with other online media, is not to blame for the lunatic fees certain titles command these days, the collectors are for paying them.
Glad I have Back Up's of Gunstar and Bloodlines
Door swings both ways, it's annoying how vocal the ignorant can be which is why topics like these are necessary. :| I don't like belittling people with less knowledge of a subject than me, there's nothing fun about slaughtering an unarmed person. No matter how ignorant someone is, if you can still see a genuine interest in gaming they should always be welcome and embraced since the love is still there.
I don't like hipsters either for one simple reason, they never really like anything, everything is enjoyed ironically, everything is beneath them. There's a reason hipster is thrown as an insult because hipsters are like hobby/passion parasites that can't find anything real to enjoy for themselves.
As far as game prices that's a group effort of 'bandwagoning' influences both good and bad, sure there are hipsters but there's also starving journalist types taking advantage of a trend, would be filmmakers or video producers, re-sellers that smell blood in the water, and various levels of collecting interest that could stick for life or be given up for something else.
You can't really put the genie back in the bottle so it's fruitless to complain too much about prices but I empathize as a collector with those crazy prices. I can only suggest you look at the silver lining of the retro revival which is games and consoles preserved and going into homes rather than landfills. :)
It's collectards of all varieties, the lot of us included who are driving prices further. YouTube definitely is the reason. It has exposed the entire hobby and given thousands of people hard-ons seeing shelves full of carts. Collecting anything is a like a fucking disease of the mind. A senseless craving for something that grows more intense the more it seems like you can't actually have it. It's part of the reason why I throw more money at it now than ever, I just want to be done with worrying over it. There's a set number of games I still would like and then to hell with the rest. I'm also pulling the plug on gaming as far as the modern scene goes. No more game consoles for me, and that includes Nintendo. I've got so many damn games I'll never be able to play them all in my lifetime. I can't wait until the time comes when I can focus my leftover energy on something other than "I need to get that game".
100% agreed here
you see it too - someone pays too much for a buy it now, price goes up > those of us sleeping on a certain title that's been like $100 for a decade or more fear it might become the next little samson or some shit buy in before it hits $200+ > cycle continues until the only copies online are all well above what most are paying
next thing you know, people are on forums bragging about a minty $450 copy of panzer dragoon saga. shit's toxic, and honestly i've removed myself from all but really good/rare deals on lesser known stuff or everdrives
I find the concept of "hipsters" driving up the price of games to be patently ridiculous. Why? Hipsters don't have any money. And the money they do have they spend on beard oil, craft beer, and fixie bikes. None of the people I've met that could be called "hipsters" are buying Genesis games for $100. They might buy a beanie from Urban Outfitters with Mario on it and go to a beercade, but they're not the ones leading the surge in prices. Don't know where that idea got started (not to say that Hipsters can't collect games, just to say that for sure it's not them leading to the increase in prices).
So who is? It's mostly young guys in their late 20s/early 30s who are getting more advanced in their careers and actually have the money to waste on games. They might wear a flannel shirt occasionally, but they're far from hipsters. More likely they have a tucked in polo shirt and pleated khakis with a clip on cell phone on their belts.
These are the guys who dig up their old systems, probably because they had kids, and go on a nostalgia trip. They're not going to hit up flea markets looking for the best deals because they don't have time for it, with real careers and families. They have the disposable income to budget a few hundred here and there for games, and don't particularly care about paying $30 vs $50 vs even $100, as long as they get what they want.
The same age group is starting to surge prices on other collectibles as well. Just take a look at the prices of Magic the Gathering cards or action figures from the era. The same thing happened with vintage guitars and cars when boomers came of age.
And of course there's the resellers. We like to think that all resellers are basically comic book guy types, but that's not it at all. Again it's usually young guys guys who don't even look like they would be into retro games, hitting up the flea markets and garage sales early in the morning. Why? Because they're young, don't have a lot of money, have a lot of time, and are using something they know and love to "hustle." And that's just the thing - we may look at resellers as evil, but they're probably collectors and fans like you and me.
I think you hit the nail on the head with this post and I have no doubt that it is the people you describe (people in their late twenties/early thirties with disposable incomes and fueled by nostalgia) who are driving the retro gaming market today. I fall into that age bracket too but I certainly don't have a disposable income! My modest collection has taken many years to accrue and I've only paid silly money for games on a couple of occasions. The rest of the more valuable games in my collection I either found cheap back in the day before the current retro boom or received as gifts from people over the years. You make a very valid point and that is, for all our complaining about current prices, it is mostly guys just like us who are fueling it.
I agree with Tower's post as well, most people don't want to admit it though. Because that means you realize you are also part of the problem! It sucks, but I've just learned to be a lot tighter with my gaming budget, especially as prices have continued to climb.
