I've heard a lot of praise for Trackmania. I've been meaning to get that game for quite some time. I have a racing game for PC called Race 07: Official WTTC Game. It's been sitting in it's factory seal for years on the shelf.
It was more of an arcade game, that's why I don't think it had a save feature. Still pretty stupid seeing as the game isn't short.
It's definitely multiple hours long, the loss of progress is brutal if you was quite far in.
I never got to grips with it, but as a kid I absolutely loved Resident Evil and this basically had to do it for me until the next real one.
Yeah, that's perhaps the same reason I liked the game. I'll be honest, not played it in years, I bet it's not even half as good as what I remember.
Really? Those games came out in the 90's?
Again, I thought we were talking about 90's racers seeing as how that was what you were discussing when I quoted you.
Some of those are from the 90's, but many of them I wouldn't put on the same level as what Sega and other Japanese developers were pumping out in the Arcades at the time. For example Need for Speed, Rush, Top Gear Rally, etc. weren't really on the same level. And Need for Speed was pretty pathetic in the 90s.
Those games are mostly from the early '90s to mid '00s; I think that racing games were best during that period. That list is about half '90s games and half '00s games, for both regions. After the mid '00s the genre sadly has taken a steep downturn, though, for those of us who don't like sim or part-sim racers. More of those games are from the '90s than the '00s, but the more important thing to mention is the collapse of the arcadey racing game that happened during the 7th generation.
I absolutely would put them on that level, and so would many other people. And anything on that list is better than any Ridge Racer game, but of course I don't like that series much.Quote:

All three of those series are great. Rush, of course, is my favorite racing game series ever, I don't need to say that again. It's the best. Top Gear's N64 games were all very good; yes, Top Gear Rally isn't quite as good as Sega Rally, but it is better than Sega Rally 2 and any other rally game I have played. Great game. And NFS was at its best in the '90s; they keep making them, and the 2010 and newer ones are good, but NFS III and NFSHS were the series' peak, for me. Great stuff there, so many hours of fun. NFS3 and HFSHS are better than most '90s Japanese racing games; only the very best, like F-Zero, F-Zero X, and Daytona, are better. And that's only a couple of the games on that list. Micro Machines 1 and 2 are fantastic games, I've loved them since the '90s. They are my choice for best top-down racing games, along with something I should have mentioned but forgot, "Ironman" Ivan Stewart's Super Off-Road! I love that game so much, it's one of the best arcade racing games ever made. The home ports are mostly good too, but the arcade version with its free-spinning wheel can't be beat. Wipeout 64, Pod, and XG2 I've also loved since I got them in '97-'00, and Wipeout 1, XL, and 3 are awesome too of course. I love futuristic racing games the most of any kind of racing games, and those are some of the best. Same for Moto Racer 1 and 2. Moto Racer 2 is my second favorite motorcycle racing game ever, after only Excitebike 64. Etc.Quote:

Western Indies win
Freedom Planet vs Sonic Boom, Skylanders, & Kirby (FP CONQUERS! Fatality!)
Brutal Doom/Reelism/Samsara/Aeons of Death vs. COD (fish) and Battlefield (Brutal Doom wins!)
Marvel First Alliance 2 vs. Marvel Heroes 2015 (MFA2 Triumphs! Marvelous!)
Sonic Revolution vs. Sonic Boom (Sonic Revolution is Victorious!)
You listed quite a few newer games. The games you listed that were from the 90's, I would not put in my top tier racers of the era.
I'm sorry, but Rush, Need for Speed, Top Gear Rally, etc. are not on the same level as these racers:
There's a reason why those games are still in arcades making money years later.
Yes. Those other games are harder to find, so they don't make money off the majority of people who don't give a shit.
The customer base are people who play what's put in front of them by chance, rather than a testament to the game's standing quality. Arcades are dead, and Sega cabinets were a dime a dozen.
It would be cool if Sega put together a racing compilation for PC, PS4 and Xbox One. I've only played Scud Racer one time in the arcades.
