It's only a matter of time before consoles in general get swept under the rug as inferior to PC gaming. Nintendo is the last holdout of exclusive, good IPs forcing you to buy a console. But the WiiU has been such a dismal system in terms of selection of games that it has never been worth its price point. What is going to make the NX any different?

I grew up around PC's, I was one of a few that knew them well. I saw people younger than me start using them a great deal more... to them they were starting to become second nature.
But then that trend started to reverse, and quickly.
The younger generations don't use PC's. They are using smartphones. They may still use computers at school/work to some extent, but it's not like it was.
People like that are going to get something like a playstation or an xbox to play the bigger games unless they are also a PC gamer. And that's something that is getting far more common from what I can see.
And that doesn't mean that I see consoles getting much more popular in general. I think quite a few people are satisfied with their phone/tablet games without needing to get anything more involved.
The Wii U has only been around for four years, and Nintendo's already abandoning it? Just when Mario Maker and Splatoon are making it kinda-relevant?
The Wii was around for SIX years, dammit! When I spend over 200 bucks on something, it had better last me a good long time!
And frankly, the lack of a new Zelda will be the last fucking straw for me.

We're underestimating how dire of a failure Nintendo has non-publicly deemed the Wii U. This few games in known development from their wholly owned and operated studios speaks volumes louder than any conceivable E3 surprise.
It would be hilarious though to see them pull a fast one, and announce at E3 that the NX is a home console and in stores that day.
Why are people so quick to jump to Nintendo's defense and call every critic of the WiiU and this recently announced, but barely different console, a Nintendo-hater? The system is just not impressive. It doesn't have the selection that the Wii did, and it's using the same damn peripherals as the last two consoles before it, save for a few gimmicks. Nintendo has resorted to literally rehashing previous games with bullshit like Mario Maker and NES Classics Remix. There are no new IPs, no 3rd party support, and the franchises that you really wanted to buy the system for in the past (Super Mario, Smash Bros, Mario Party, Mario Sports) are now old and stale. New Super Mario Bros and Super Mario 3D World are not fun, and not original. None of Nintendo's games are. And the price point is not cheap. I fail to see the appeal of the WiiU. I really enjoyed the Gamecube and the Wii. But there is simply no appeal to the WiiU, or the NX if Nintendo isn't willing to change up their tired formula.Quote:
