The Nintendo Monster Hunter.
Sounds about right.
Latest confirmed rumors:
http://www.digitimes.com/news/a20160530PD201.html
-5x7 inch screen on the controller; which will also serve as a handheld (not sure if describing the controller as a "joystick" meant it will have physical analog sticks or if that was just an old timer not knowing how to differentiate a game pad from a joystick. He did confuse the word "mobile" for "handheld". I doubt he was talking about smart phone capabilities).
-Will have VR capability at launch (production is now 6 months postponed to early 2017 to allow this feature).
-Nintendo is again exhibiting little faith in the hardware market even with the Nintendo NX (Orders for 20 million units for the first year dropped to 10 million. Not sure why the 2015 poor sales from the 2 million Wii U units ordered that year has anything to do with their recent change of mind. It's been a year and a half since). This also adds flame to the fire upon the rumors that the 9th generation of consoles will be the last.
That's still just people saying 'sources' which means rumor. I think it's fair to say until someone rats them out with some solid documentation or Nintendo talks it's all bs until shown otherwise. I find it kind of hard to believe they'd throw a system back nearly a year to add in a gimmick after being burned on gimmicks twice now on a gamers stand point and one on the sales side too (WiiU failure.) The stories about the Android repaint of NintendOS and looking more like a microconsole/handheld combo thing sorta like Nvidia Shield I'd find more plausible as they just can't afford to play in the sandbox with the big kids anymore as people who seriously/semi-seriously game tired of their crap and went elsewhere.
Why don't they just release some add ons for the Wii U, like some sort of blu ray drive, and a seperate thing that boosts the hardware power? That might work..............
all that would do is add extra cost to a system people have decided they don't want
What if they added 4k and arcade ports?
Nintendo should have released a Wii U with proper media features and power at launch but I'm not sure that would even have saved this console which seemed destined to fail right from the start.
What I would give to be a fly on the wall during important meetings because I'd love to hear the excuses when it is mentioned how the base keeps shrinking rather than growing. My guess is the shot callers are in an extreme state of denial.
^ Seemed destined to fail from the start? More like I seen it would fail 100% from the start.
Well the he said it sounded more like it still had some hope. The way I said and predicted it was with zero hope.
If it fit properly in with the XB1/PS4 in terms of capabilities (even if less than either) it would still likely be getting ports of all/most the mainstream third party games. That alone is enough to bolster the system from a "I'll bust out the system a few times a year when Nintendo releases a game" to being able to use it as a primary system.
Although this also hinges on them not anchoring the system to the ground with the gamepad either. It's a great optional/premium accessory... but sucks as a default control device.
How would that sort of thing be connected? The only ports available are USB2, which don't have the bandwidth needed for it. That's the problem with trying to upgrade these consoles; they're just not made to take them.
Besides, the real problem (as someone else pointed out) is that consumers have decided they don't want it. You can't turn that perception around after 4 years. And think about all the dolts that didn't realize it was a separate system - they didn't exactly run out to purchase the "add-on" for what had been a successful console.
Nevermind, I wasn't being serious, No hope of a Mega/Sega CD & 32X combo then? :?
New patent photos show no second analog stick in one format, and a second photo with no buttons at all:

Nintendo would also need to add some sort of achievement system which would add replay to such third party games. In all reality, why (when available on all consoles) would people go to the competition for such games? The overall experience is better. Last week I bought the new Lego Star Wars. I didn't purchase it on the Wii U because there isn't much of an incentive for playing it after completion. Nintendo needs third party coupled with a dignified console offering a well balanced experience. Using the law of averages I'd like to think the company would get it right already bu considering with whom we are dealing, I remain skeptical.
