Haven't they been melting too?
The 20 year old hard drive in my Amiga 1200 stopped working.
Avoid whatever brand made hard drives for Amigas.
Ah yes, it was the newer ones. No doubt propagated by Microsoft pre Scorpio...
TBH, I don't even think it was even done by Xbone fanboys, let alone Microsoft. I think it was revealed to be just a clickbait prank.
All HDDs fail.
Seagates are classic garbage though. I just bought 2 of their 2TB hybrid drives yesterday, and one is totally dead. I laughed out loud, because it's the first time in maybe 10-15 years I decided to buy their shit brand again.
I bought a $300 dell laptop last year that's probably not far off what you got. I needed to replace my Nexus 7, and having gone through two cheapy tablets, I figure even though they're not as portable laptops are portable enough for my purposes; nearly as inexpensive; and far more serviceable and durable.
Also, the Toys R Us in my area got some Switches in, so I bought one.
Picked up "I am Setsuna," and "Blaster Master Zero."
I'm waiting on Legend of Zelda BotW Master Edition to come in the mail.
It is funny how I have never had any issues of any kind with Seagates, while with everyone else there's been plenty problems. Samsungs are by far the worst and WD has always been hit and miss for me (about half my WD drives have developed bad sectors).
the last thing you need to buy are cheap laptops. they are only out there for people who don't want to spend any money. they become slow and unworkable within the year. have terribly slow hdd's and in general are just shit.
Here's a question, What would you suggest for a storage device for a Wii U?
Wii U is a good console
Extra storage can be achieved with most WD 2TB passports or Buffalo DriveStations or Seagate drives if you like failure
Ya....it's good.
IDKAU but I love when a console has MAJOR software droughts, the complete ignoring of major first party franchises, a gimmick that was not utilized, etc.., Nintendo barebacked the pooch with the Wii U and it is one the company is trying to forget.
Major software droughts okay sure but the quality of the games on the console is excellent. I own more games that I like for Wii U than Xbox One and PS4 combined because most of the stuff on those two consoles is rehashed garbage or was better on PC. I am by no means a Nintendo person, I've literally owned a Gamecube, Wii U, Wii, and thats it (when they were out) but quality speaks for itself.
Zelda BotW, Mario Kart 8, Super Mario 3D World, Super Mario Maker, Splatoon, Super Smash Bros Wii U, Bayonetta 2, Pikmin 3, Xenoblade Chronicles X, SUper Mario Bros U (Luigi U), Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze, Yoshis Wooly World, Zelda HD Remakes, Pokken Tournament, Tokyo Mirage Sessions, Paper Mario Color Splash, Kirby and the Rainbow Curse, Zombi U
All very good games... whats the issue?
Most of that list is a remake, another version of the same game with some adjustments, or a straight sequel, which is precisely what you knock on the PS4/XB1 for having. Splatoon is the only really unique title on the system (zombi U is no longer unique and there's a ton of zombie games out there already).
Not saying that means they are bad games by any stretch of the imagination, but the Wii U has an anemic library, it's pretty easy for a good game to stand out there when it's nearly standing on its own.
I hope the switch fares better, but I don't see that happening. It's still anemic compared to the other systems, and when combined with it's peculiar design it winds up in a very similar case to the Wii-U... multi plats won't come to it, and most 3rd parties are in a feedback loop where they are hesitant to make anything only for the system, and since they are not making things for it people aren't buying their games on it.
I don't get how some are comparing the Wii U to the Dreamcast, as this obscure console with a ton of great games. The Dreamcast has a ton more games available, and even more RPGs.
I've never had a problem with my Sata Seagate drives. The IDE drives are a different story, but most of the drives from that era were pretty volatile.
Seagate gets a bad rap because they had a batch of 4TB HDDs that had a high failure rate in a server environment. Currently, WD has just as high of a failure rate as Seagate does, even in the larger storage HDDs.
Multiplats are the only games that will be made soon if people have their way. They want to buy one system of their choosing and have access to everything - so why not just use a PC at that point? I buy Nintendo to play Nintendo, I buy Sony and Microsoft to play their exclusives but thats looking more and more like a distant memory at this point.
Overall your point is fair but I still fail to see how the Wii U is garbage can worthy - its certainly not.
Those titles I listed I purchased and played and genuinely enjoyed - the best game I played on Xbox One since I've owned it was probably Sunset Overdrive with Gears 4 a close second. PS4 was Uncharted 4 and Horizon Zero Dawn hands down - then Nioh probably. I cant say anything about Persona 5 yet because I haven't played it but fiends seem to enjoy it. Lots of good stuff coming out on PS4 recently so Xbox is sitting on my shelf collecting dust but Wii U and PS4 get played daily.
The Wii U isn't obscure but there are a lot of great games. The Dreamcast needed to be quality, Sega's entire future rested on the quality being tip top. If Sega had released the console with games that were mediocre or you know, nothing at all they didn't have the kind of capital to fall back on like Nintendo does and say 'oh well better luck next time' - there was no next time. Dreamcast probably has one of the best great game to dud ratios in gaming history.
The issue is how (with the exception of a few) none of those games are memorable while making the Wii U a worthy purchase. None of them were the much needed killer app. The best game on that list is the swan song for the console and when it could have potentially helped move consoles, it was delayed and delayed and delayed again. Even more alarming is how the Wii U version of Zelda releases yet the console has been absent from retail since November or so. Talk about a boner of a move, Nintendo. Some of the games on that list are less endowed then its predecessors. Four and a half years after launch and that is the list you were able to comprise? That should tell you a great deal of things. The list is small because the console was a dud.
My primary console has given me many more games (compared with the Wii U) that were games one needed to play or you'd be left out.
That's already the case. People buy consoles to get a relatively decent performing budget system to play games on (since nearly all big name games are released on them). That is all the multiplats as well as any exclusives for a give console. Those consoles also tend to pull double duty as media player/streaming devices as well. For the price of a decent to high end video card on a real gaming rig, it's not a bad deal (of course you can build budget systems as well).
I'd imagine there's more people that buy just one console than there are people who are willing (and able) to get all of them to cover not just the multi's, but the few exclusives as well. My Wii U collects dust (quite literally... damn piano black is a dust magnet). My XB1 gets used daily for at least streaming things, even if I don't play any games that day. I don't have a PS4 yet, since I have not really been interested in most of the exclusives for it. That's no longer the case mind you, and I will get one soon enough, but if there's a multiplat game, unless there's a VERY compelling reason to do otherwise, I'll get it on the XB1 over the PS4.
Thats your opinion and I respect it but I don't agree with any of it.
The quality of BotW speaks for itself. Did you even play it? Nintendo did people who own the Wii U and Switch a solid by having that on both consoles. If they moved it to Switch only I sure as hell would have been pissed off and I know many people would have. Again as much as you are bad mouthing the console and those games - did you play any of those? Do you own it? If you played Kirby Rainbow Curse and didn't enjoy it - I'm not sure you'd like much of anything. Tokyo Mirage Sessions Fire Emblem (lol) was a great JRPG even though the dialogue is insanely corny - but I put 56 hours into that game. I have 62 in BotW as of last night and I've got 40+ in Xenoblade, Beat Bayonetta 2, Kirby, Super Mario U, etc - and had agreat time. Do I regreat buying the Wii U? Not one bit.
It could have been better for sure - No Metroid? That pisses me off more than anything. Metroid is my favorite series on Nintendo by far.
I'm with you on if its on both I tend to get it for Xbox or PC (like Fallout 4, Witcher, etc just better games on a PC)
You will enjoy the PS4, lots of good stuff on it. I wish M$ would get their stuff together and release some god damn good games. It's a really big let down as an Xbox fan.
The way I see it (and this is just me, I'm sure there are others with different opinions and gaming choices), while the generation is recent and still kicking, I tend to choose one single gaming console per generation for my multiplats. This has remained true for me since I was able to purchase my first console during the 4th gen (Sega Genesis). If the moons align, that generation passes, the prices become insanely low or my collecting bug bites me, then I would start considering buying or trying out the same exact game on a different console (i.e.- It took me until the 8th generation to even consider buying the same multiplats for 3rd and 4th gen systems for either collecting purposes or just for kicks to experience the same game as the other half did back then. But even then, only because they were so insanely cheap and I still did so with some reservation). But, while, the generation is still active, I just can't see myself purchasing the same game for two competing systems. I even tried going against the grain a few times with a mindset of buying whichever console version game was cheaper for me these last three generations (not counting the "9th"), and I still have had reservations for one reason or another.
We're not talking Disney's Aladdin on the Genesis versus Disney's Aladdin on the SNES anymore; two entirely different games in the same generation. Those times have passed. For years (heck, decades), we've consitently been getting the same exact game down to a tee on every console minus the obvious and, to me, very negligible differences here and there. And, honestly, I don't see the very vast majority of gamers out there (I'm talking >99% here), myself included, urging to buy and play every single multiplat they purchase for every single console for which it comes out. Again, I'm not talking collecting purposes here. I'm talking gaming purposes.
So, why do I say this? To justify the following:
In my opinion (and again, this is only my opinion and it is just an opinion, not fact), the Wii U is shock-full of goodness. A huge percentage of the Wii U's library I consider highly playable compared to many other consoles, including the Wii (again, just an opinion). To say that it carries a lackluster library with very few playable games, or any statement along those lines, would be almost like saying that the NEO GEO AES had a lackluster library with very few playable games. Both of which statements (again opinion) I would consider not true at all.
And why do I say that? To justify the following:
In my opinion, Exclusives are very important regardless if you only own one system, or if you own many per generation. For instance, in my game room, I own way more Wii U games than I do Xbox One games this generation. And this is just my game room. It may not be your game room, but I believe it could be yours and many other people's scenario as well. And by "yours" (and it sucks we've reached a point here in sega-16 where some folks just don't understand this), I'm stemming from the proverbial "you". I'm generalizing, not calling anyone out.
I'm not saying the Xbox One is a bad system. I love it. I think it is shockfull of amazing games. But most of those are multiplats, and I have personally gone with the PS4 this generation for the multiplats. This leaves me with only about 10 actual games I want to have for the Xbox One, the exclusives. So, me personally? I also tend to buy only the exclusives for the Wii U. These are basically games I would, otherwise, not be able to play on my PS4. And, looking at my personal library, I literally have three (3) times as many Wii U games as I do Xbox One games. I'm just sharing with you guys one example of one gamer.
So, if you were to only go with the Wii U this last generation for one reason or another (which I highly doubt is the case for anyone in this forum), you're bound to have lots of fun. If you were to buy it as an aside to experience some extra games not found in other systems, you're still going to have lots of fun. Hours upon hours upon hours of fun. Personally, as gamer, I would consider the Wii U as an indispensable and must-have addition to anyone's game room.
Do you want to trade user names on the Wii U and Switch so you can find out?
The Wii U was sold on Reggie's bullshit promises of good support, third party offerings, etc.., and it all turned out to be lies. Nothing I played was monumental when many of the titles were rehashes or incomplete offerings. Yoshi? From the time it was announced to the time we received it after others had it for a while it was a let down. Besides looking beautiful I can't think of any redeeming qualities. NSBU was a sub par launch game that was already done on the Wii and lowering the time and adding Luigi didn't cut it. Smash had TERRIBLE online and lacked a story mode. Kart was good but it lacked a battle mode yet along with Splatoon offered the best play on the console. Paper Mario? While it was better than what came on the 3DS, it was still disappointing compared with the GCN and Wii releases. What made PM into PM was gone. Zelda remasters? I guess that is how Nintendo strung people along with the proverbial Zelda carrot.
Zelda huh? Nintendo really did owners a solid by releasing it years after they said it would release and I'd wager a lot of money as that being why many early adopters invested in the Wii U. Now it means squat. Why? One, you can't buy a new Wii U at retail so if you wanted the console for Zelda you are now up the creek. Two, lets be realistic and understand many Wii U owners have now moved on and refuse to buy more software for an abortion of a console. Have you seen the sales numbers? 4-1 in favor of the Switch over the older, 13 million + Wii U. Doing owners a solid would have been best exemplified by having a stable release schedule for the past 4.5 years.
Quite a few big names never gained favor with those developing on the console. Punch Out, Metroid, Animal Crossing (unless you count the board game), etc..,
Yeah, obscure wasn't the word I was looking for. I meant more like heavily collectable, because of its library, and not great selling systems. I don't think that they are comparable, because the Dreamcast had a harder time selling, while having a much better overall library of games.
Totally viable, but the majority will have either the PS4 or the XB1 as their primary console, and the Wii-U will either not be present, or will be a distant second (or third or fourth).
I also only get games primarily on one system... I won't ever get the same game on multiple systems unless it's a really damn good reason (like actually being a totally different game).
When I get the PS4 it's going to be the opposite of your situation. I'll get the few exclusives on it I want, but 99.99999% of multi plats will be the XB1. I just much prefer MS's console in terms of user experience, and also much prefer their controllers.
I will get a switch eventually as well, I'd trade in my Wii-U towards one if the handful of games I have for it were on the switch, but they are not... I'm thinking of turning it into an emulator box since the homebrew channel can be installed on it, but haven't made up my mind.
Dude, grow up. I don't agree with the guy's opinion, either, but cut the attitude out.
People don't want to fuck around with their computers just to get one game to work. Or multiple ones that require the highest settings. Do not mention Steam because most people only play Team Fortress 2, Counter-Strike, and whatever hot MMO or strategy game there is.
If you don't understand why people find the Wii U garbage, then you will never understand why it never caught on. Beyond the questionable first party (depends on how you view them), there isn't much third party. Nintendo's offerings didn't exactly boost the system compared to any other home console effort, regardless of reception. They really didn't seem confident in showing off the system.
Maybe not on PS3 and 360, but Steam still gets people.
http://steamcharts.com/
They still pull in tens of thousands
I vaugely remember millions of people playing TF2 when it first came out though.
Everything went wrong with the hats and now it pulls in players because it's free more than anything, usually by kids too because they run it on toasters. Game was really fun in 2008 as well.
That's pretty much where I'm coming from. The Xbox One is an excellent choice either way. Me? I went with the PS4. But at the end of the day, we can all enjoy the same multiplats that overlap, and extend our enjoyment to the other console's exclusives respectively. But I can understand your position coming from the Xbox One towards exclusives on other consoles. The PS4 has already surpassed the Wii U in that sense. So It wouldn't seem as contrasting as it is to me when looking at Xbox One vs Wii U exclusivity.
That being said, I had the same exact feelings as you do about the Gamecube during the 6th gen. I had the DC, Xbox and PS2, and never really got the GC until many years later; and only then, and still is, just for the Game Boy Player attachment. The more time that passed (and even now as we speak) the less exclusive the Gamecube got. But, yeah, it goes without saying that the GC is also a good system with lots of good games and some really great exclusives and definitive versions.
