No they can't.Dogs on numerous occasions have done extraordinary things for people and animals alike.I read a story where a dog ran into an owners house, got the family out ,and went back in for the cat, but ended up dying of smoke inhalation.Found a story just now http://www.catanddogpictures.com/vid...ens-from-fire/.Cats will never display this level of emotion or care it is beyond them.Quote:

I'm voted cats since I can't be with a dog at all. They are so hysterical to me, smell bad and they can't give me a break at all. But a cat, or atleast mine, can chill out quite a bit.

Yea, the litter box is the biggest downfall for cats, and dependent on the type of dog (bigger is better obviously) they can indeed keep the "baddies" away. The thing with bigger dogs is they do not live long, I think about 10 or so years is the lifespan, while smaller ones do last a bit longer. A guy I work with has two English Mastiffs on his farm and he says they keep coyotes and unwanted people away, but he also has ten or so cats on his farm for pest control (mice, moles and such).Quote:
