I'm sure people have heard that the series was revived last year on 3DS. Aksys is localizing the game, but this review seems pretty harsh:

It (visually) looks terrible and generic.
I agree that the presentation doesn't have the charm of the original. I loved the first two Langrisser especially on the Genesis and looking at the pictures of the new game and reading the review, it the game seems to both fail at moving the series forward while staying faithful to what make it fun. I actually wound up with a 3DS for Christmas(still much prefer the games on the Genesis to modern gaming, even in handheld form), guess I'm lucky the SRPG I wound up with was Fire Emblem: Awakening(thankfully they learned to make a mode without permanent deaths, or I'd probably kill someone for having a game in that series). From the beginning though, I never cared for Langrisser. I prefer single units battling it out, if I'm going to bother with a SRPG.

I'm still looking forward to getting into Fire Emblem. I played a bit of the first on NES but at the time didn't really grasp SRPGs, but having gotten into the first two Langrissers and Shining Force games, I should give it another go, as well as the new ones.
I love RPG/Dungeons & Dragons blobs, but the only game franchise that ever did them with any enduring style or charm, was Dragon Quest.
It looks like they sucked all of the charm out of the original in favor of making it as bland as possible.
Sorry to necro the thread, but since they released the game to the US I figured they might have made some improvements to the game. The reviews are stating otherwise. They should have released some enchanted Langrisser I and II instead.
