Sony Pictures has announced a live action Sonic film (with Sonic and company as CGI effects, of course) for release in 2018. The people behind the incoming flick assure fans it will not be like "The Smurfs" (which, by the way, will have an all-CGI reboot in 2017).

Not really looking forward to it. I'm not in to the mix of CG and live action. I can't stand that style. Almost every movie that's done it so far has been terrible. Garfield, Smurfs, Alvin and the Chipmonks, etc. etc.
Someone on reddit predicted the plot to the movie. I wouldn't be surprised if they were pretty close.
I try not to be cynical and dismiss a product before it's out, but I really can't see this being any good.
I only care enough to post that I don't care.

I'm thinking Inspector Gadget, Smurfs, and Garfield live action level bad or worse.
Something only really young children might enjoy, and anyone that grew up with it will want to murder it with fire.
I don't know, Super Mario Bros was a classy production with a stellar cast. Maybe this will be nearly as good as that?
Has there ever been a good live-action movie with an animated character? Scooby Doo was okay but not really better than some of the animated movies. The only good one I can think of is Who Framed Roger Rabbit?.Quote:

Live-action/CGI hybrid? This is gonna suck.
Why don't they just make a CGI film? What's wrong with a Pixar-style full-CGI animated film? Why live action? It just screams "This will be about humans nobody gives a shit about with the title character as a sidekick!".
The ideal Sonic film:
-Core cast - Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Robotnik/Eggman
-Adapt something like The Death Egg Saga from the comics
-Or just remake the animated movie
-Balance serious tone with good jokes
-Quality comedic voice-actors (Paul Rudd, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, etc).
-A mix of Pixar animation + Marvel style + Disney heart. THAT would be my ideal movie.
Instead, we'll probably get "Sonic comes to New York/ learns about America/ starts a rap career/ falls in love with a human girl (played by Megan Fox)/ battles Eggman (played by Kevin James)/ learns about the meaning of life."
With lots of 'splosions and CGI and fart/poop/pee jokes.
I already know my expectations are too high.

My take on this:
The only Sonic the Hedgehog that should be gracing a live-action screen is one in which it is being played retrospectively on a Sega Genesis by some actor who is actually enjoying it; preferably, a retro 90s flashback to the good old days.

I don't really know what to think. I hope it's a fun kids movie, not a distorted man-child Way Past Cool sadness journey. I liked the Sonic OVA way back when.
