DD sounds much bether, do you improve all tracks of the game ?
Bloodlines sounds very good i think its just need a new drums instruments and Quackshot is very well done too, maybe can you put power rangers in your priority list =D

I would if there was a way to put the tracks into the game itself! It's hard to stay motivated for an entire soundtrack because it takes so long for me to do even a short track (I learn it by ear, put it into VGM, then finally can start to improve on it which probably takes the longest as well). If one could import .vgz or .vgm into VGMM or Deflemask this stuff would be much easier.
Yeah the drums are the main thing to improve with Bloodlines. I think Quackshot can sound better, just listen to World of Illusion, Master of Monsters or Dahna Megami Tanjyou for example.
Again, don't know if it's PAL related, but World Of Illusions, despite having great themes, also has scratchy samples (just like Phantasy Star 3). Quackshot sounded much clearer/
I assume you mean the FM and/or PSG since those two games don't use samples (99% sure), but if something is scratchy or abrasive in other ways then it can be tweaked pretty easily by lowering an operator or tweaking something else. I have to also consider real hardware though, as some parts of songs sound too sharp on a modded Model 2 or in emulation but nice on a model 1.
I can only find a real hardware recording of one WoI track and it sounds fine to me, maybe a bit shrill on the lead synth.

I speak from memory, and I had a model 1 PAL MD. I use the word 'sample' with the meaning of 'instrument sound, independantly of tonality or intensity', I'm afraid I don't know anything about FM, PSG or anything, and very few about music in general. But I've good ears :)
For the scratchy music of Phantasy Star 3, I was referring more specifically to the music in towns or in space (the 2 satellites) ; there are others too.
For WoI, the intro music (when cards are turning) comes to mind.
I've listened to a few WoI tracks in Regen and I can see/hear your point though the card menu track isn't that bad. The thing is that the PSG (master system part) is pretty loud and it's not the most polished PSG work, while it's also in the middle of the soundscape, so it can be annoying at times. Other times the FM instruments are too sharp and thin. Anyway, I'll just pick and choose what works best for Quackshot, and maybe I'll tweak a WoI track or two later.
Those aren't part of the music, but I did check all tracks eventually and one boss track uses a loud, somewhat scratchy timpani, so yeah. Full disclosure!
Edit: Anyone know where to find MegaMID?

DD1 definitely sounds better
Bloodlines and Battletoads & Double Dragon would improve a lot with better drums, they are pretty good otherwise.
Quackshot - Duckburg: http://www.filedropper.com/quackshot-duckburgremake3
There's a bunch of subtle chord changes and quick fills with the PSG so this one took a while to simply recreate. Main improvements are with the bass, drums and banjo; I couldn't find/make a better sax lead so I kept it and just added subtle effects like in Sparkster where you add vibrato at two different speeds at the same time.
Wow --- Quackshot Duckburg is really impressive! It doesn't even sound like a Genesis!
Hard to tell what you mean by that, but then again you didn't even notice the new drums added to the Fire Shark track.
The patterns are the same as in the original except for a couple of crash hits, though some fills are less dynamic because the samples are all the same volume. I forget how many steps in volume you could use on MD for samples, is it three?
Actually, none at all. The Genesis doesn't have any volume control for the DAC. Although, of course, you can program the driver so that you can alter the sample volume, similar to the way drivers commonly altered pitch. Same thing can be done with panning too, by coding the driver to alter DC offset values. I think the X68000 has done this too, seeing how the ADPCM in it is mono only, but some games have the samples panning.
Anyway, High Seas Havoc was one game which had controlled sample volume in its driver.
Very interesting info, thanks! Are you working on any new MD music by the way? :)
@Vludi: It's just that such vague criticism isn't helpful, sorry. I uploaded the .vge and linked to it under the YT upload, where the original pattern is mostly intact so you can open it and play around with it if you want.
Wow at that Duckburg version. I was so far enjoying your versions, but this last one was outstanding. Would love to hear it inserted into the actual game.
I thought there was some flag value discovered recently that forced louder playback, isn't it? Dunno how useful was that.
So here's Slammin' Sea from Mega Bomberman/Bomberman '94: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=INsg...ature=youtu.be
Main changes are the sampled drums and the techno part's bass, and I did some variations in the second loop with stereo bass. Took me a while to get the FM bubbles close to the original.
No BM fans around? How about MUSHA in Vapor Trail style then: http://www.filedropper.com/musha-fortheloveof
First try in deflemask which is slightly more accurate and it has an extra rhythm guitar harmony and new drums.
Well, the drums seemed louder in the vgm and even louder in the rom file. Is it really a problem?
I see, but not to play a rearranged track without sampled drums?
Edit: Seems the drum levels were better in Regen, but the PSG is louder there.
I redid Divine Devise from Musha. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...vinedevise.mp3
May tidy it up a bit and upload to Youtube later.
Replacing the earlier link with the Youtube version. I added a bit of PSG, and lowered the volume of the leads, and raised the volume of the Rhythm Guitars due to Vludi's suggestion, although I couldn't really make them sound stronger (they are both panned, but I only did that because the original does that).
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VwwCg8FicKE
I think it sounded better with the less prominent PSG arps.
Hm... I listened to it with my speakers (not my headset as I usually do, and also assuming most people hear it with their PC speakers in the first place), and I think I can understand both the Rhythm Guitar and PSG complaint.
With my headset, the panned Rhythm Guitar sounds fine, because I can hear them both just fine in either ear directly. It's not bad with speakers, but they do sound a bit distant.
The added PSG is odd, because it sounds fine with my headset (or so I thought), but with speakers they sound kind of out of place. The original has the PSG channels completely silent, so I kind of wanted to add a bit of something to it, but now I'm not so sure :p
You could try having them play an octave higher, or just play flat chords to fill out the harmony.
Idea: change Sonic Eraser's instruments, because I have the feeling its theme wouldn't be as bad if it had better ones =P
Lost Vikings - Candy Land remade (both versions): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iU6Fj0aeGh8
It's good, but it sounds a bit flat.
Honestly I've always thought the Beta tracks sounded pretty amazing. With some tweaking here and there it might be possible to get something a bit better out of those:

Yeah, those sounds great... I wonder... how good could sound Kings of Dragons BSO....

Tell me which chorus style you like best or comment on anything else. The rhythm guitar is supposed to be an octave higher in the first one but it sounds a bit too thin to me.
Congratulations for your huge improvements, for my taste Quack Shot is the better of all!
How deep admirer of your hacks, i sugest attent to improve the Shadow of the Beast OST, the Amiga version is great, but the Genesis sound tinny and
uninspired in comparision, i think the Mega Turrican engine sounds well suited for best play these tracks.
Thanks, I'll have a look at SotB at some point since it has great music but would like to focus on games I'd want to play as well. In the meantime, there's a pretty good version of the opening theme in Lemmings for the MD/GEN, "A Beast of a Level": www.youtube.com/watch?v=c405Nbxkyqw&t=38m1s
I'll probably do PSIV's Cybernetic Carnival or a Dune 2 track (Lego Tune maybe) next. Here are the latest covers I've done if anyone missed them:
EWJ2 - Anything But Tangerines: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=017CNgM-_ss
MW3/WB3 - Last Dungeon/Dragon's Castle: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pCjy4fAHxL0
Valis III - Title (semi-Valis 1 style): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h6cnt2A3Y5w
Is it MW3 or WB3 ? Monster World III is Wonderboy V, while Monster Lair is (one of the two different games named) Wonderboy III.
I meant that the track is featured in both MW3/WBiMW and WB3: ML/Monster Lair, not that they're the same game.
