When did casting women in a traditionally male roles or minorities in traditionally white roles become "progress"? I think progress takes a lot more effort and thought than that.
I made it less than halfway through the trailer. I can't do it. Memory erased.
I don't mind the female cast. I do think all the Internet crying over that is ridiculous, but it doesn't help that none of the characters seem right from the trailer. It's as if the studio just looked at the original cast and ordered up the female version of the male template. I don't like the trailer because it feels like they're just cranking out a cheap licensed comedy instead of taking the subject matter seriously. (Not that it's "serious business," but Ghostbusters wasn't all gags and farts.)
Maybe the movie will be better taken as a whole, but it's hard to be optimistic after seeing that.
People are largely irritated because this is just neo-progressive affirmative action, not meritocracy. No one threw out a huge net to see who would best fit a Ghostbusters movie made today; they just decided that instead of mixing up the cast and crew, to just keep men out of it and then declare it is better because of this alone, not because of the talent of the people involved. It's just plain sexism, and to say otherwise stamps in the face of equality.
Unless there are better parts hidden away in the rest of the film, this looks like a parody of the Ghostbusters franchise, in the same way that Scary Movie is a parody of the Scream franchise.
And no, that's not a compliment.
Finally. The down votes for the video have taken a lead with 25085 VS 16102. Faith in humanity; somewhat restored.

It's not bad because the cast is all female. It's bad because the acting and the script make Street Fighter the Movie look good.
Well, I for one think the Street Fighter movie is unintentionally hilarious and immensely quotable, so I enjoy it on that front alone. :p The Chun-li movie was just boring and stupid, and it'd be more of an accomplishment for this to make that look good. :lol:Quote:

Yeah, Street Fighter is so bad it's good. It has its charm. The new Ghostbusters trailer doesn't have any of that, then again, this is only a trailer and not the whole movie. It doesn't look promising though.
I think it's funny watching the Internet react to this trailer and subsequently crap their pants in disappointment. I mean, I've always thought Ghostbusters was one of the lamest things to come out of the lame-factory known as 80s pop culture. So it's funny to watch people be all disappointed and compare it the original like it was some masterpiece. I tried to sit through it a few months ago, and I couldn't take it. It's so damn stupid, and not in a funny way. Not in a way that Scary Movie could even parody. There is nothing that could possibly make the movie worse than the original and that is what is so funny about the reactions I'm seeing. Adam Sandler would be a godsend, Uwe Boll, anyone. Somebody help this retarded skit idea to become a watchable movie for once!
For the record - I think the trailer shows a ton of promise, because anything is an improvement.

I've only ever met 2 kinds of people who didn't at least enjoy the first Ghostbusters on some level.
The first are people that just can't stand Bill Murray (met a few of them).
And the second is people that either can't stand anything "old" (meaning before they were born usually), or can't stand any movie that doesn't cater to their lack of concentration. If they have time to check their phone more than a handful of times during the movie... then they lose all attention and interest in it.
