Next Gen had pictures of the hardware opened up. They also have a breakdown of the components inside of the hardware.

Just look at all of that silicon under the hood of the Saturn. And people wonder why Sega couldn't compete against the PlayStation for price.

Decent video, for a hardware teardown and attempted board analysis. The Genesis/SNES video is better, though, because I liked how he actually speed-tested the chips -- that was interesting in a way nothing in this video is.

However, for the critics of this video, just remember that Ben Heck is mostly a hardware guy, not software. His main interest is looking at the boards and seeing what he can figure out there, not going into detail about the features built in to those chips. And that's just fine, most people don't do this kind of video. Yes, it wasn't the most informative thing for those of us who know these systems well, because it's just hardware images and stuff from Wikipedia pretty much, but still, decent video.

Of course, but virtually nobody had N64 piracy devices. You cannot even begin to compare that to the prevalence of PS1 "backups".

I don't know about running code straight from the cart, that does sound unlikely. But the N64 absolutely makes use of its cart medium to load data far faster than any disc drive could, to allow larger areas and such without being limited by CD load times. He was probably thinking of that, but said something which went too far.
