Is there a single thread on these forums that wasn't derailed by Thief to preach about the shitty multiplayer game mode of Mass Effect 3?
I honestly can't wait for EA to shut the servers down, so I can forget it exists.

The multiplayer mode in ME3 borrows from the Horde mode in Gears of War 2. I'm not missing anything. Playing online against drones is not my idea of an online challenge.
There's zero reason for me to play any game online for more than a few 100 hours at most. I have way too many games in my collection that I need to play, as well as the ton of new games that have come out in the last 4 or 5 years. You can see in my PSN signature, that I've played well over 100 games (the 1st year of PS3 isn't tracked) just between the PS3 and PS4.Quote:
Myself; I have over 2000hrs and as a result my most played game ever, ever. Only thing that comes close is Shining Force 3 Trilogy (10 months straight and it's still my most fave game ever), and Demon/Dark Soul series. What's your most played game? If it's online, there should be account information as to how much hours and such you've accumulated.
My most played offline game (240 hours) was Skyrim, where I pretty much explored every nook and cranny in the game. My most played online game was Star Wars: Galaxies (PC), which is no longer around. I played the game at least 3 or 4 days a week over @ a 2 year period, before WOW ruined it for every other MMO.
I'd say Shadow Fall was a worse sequel. I thought that the game was a fun experience, but the tacked on robot spider mission at the end was frustrating and boring, It was not a good way to end the game.
I liked ME3. It got a lot of flack for the way the story ended, but there was a patch released for the Trilogy edition (I'm guessing it was available for all ME3 users) that made the ending less of a disappointment. You have a choice to play the game as a pure FPS, and FPS/RPG, or more like an RPG where you can manage upgrades and such to weapons and armor. It still feels like a Mass Effect game.
It won't get shut down until after the next ME Adromeda mp comes out first. And then I'll always be on about MEAmp. :p
Says the person who never played ME3mp. Otherwise all I'll add is that this game has a long learning curve and is difficult. Not to mention you don't start with everything and are super weak at the start (takes at least 700-1400hrs to get and max everything out). Back in this game's prime, stats were posted and failure rate was higher then success.
Completion Rate Per Faction & Difficulty
Out of all successful extractions against a given faction, the % of matches per difficulty.
- Cerberus: Bronze (47.0%), Silver (36.3%), Gold (13.3%), Platinum (3.2%)
- Geth: Bronze (37.4%), Silver (38.0%), Gold (22.2%), Platinum (2.4%)
- Reapers: Bronze (38.3%), Silver (35.7%), Gold (17.6%), Platinum (8.4%)
- Collectors: Bronze (43.9%), Silver (44.8%), Gold (8.7%), Platinum (2.6%)
For me personally, as a first time to a third person horde mode online game, it took me past 400 hours to finally have enough courage to move up to Gold difficulty. In my early days, I did spend a lot of time in spectator mode learning from how better players play. The rest I learnt by spending a lot of time on the forums.
Again, everybody is quick to judge that which they don't understand because they've never given it a chance. For me, I fear missing out on something really great due to ignorance. Why I try to always keep an open mind. Otherwise I never would of got into my fave games. Even Dark Souls I never planned on ever given it a chance. The online sounded very stupid to me. Heck, online games in general did (ME3mp was my first online and I only gave it a chance because I loved ME Trilogy gameplay and wanted more gameplay focused action) Yet some people loved Dark Souls so much, I figured maybe I was missing something? Took awhile to see what everyone was seeing, but now that I finally got there, I'm very thankful I didn't thanks the close minded stubborn approach.
Ditto for how I got into the shmup genre. I thought it was the dumbest genre in gaming for the longest time. Not until I seen it always popping in top online gaming lists did I consider the idea that maybe I was missing out on something? Now I regret being ignorant of the shmup genre since the 1990.
There is more wrong with ME3 than the ending... but over all it's solid.
If you are invested in me1 and 2, and like the series/characters... then you're going to enjoy ME3. The citadel DLC for it is the best "ending" to the series you're going to get. The real ending, even with the extended cut DLC, is still just... ok. It's just disappointing compared to how the ME1 and 2 endings went... let alone the hype built up for the last game in the trilogy.
But there are some awesome parts to the game... and powerful ones if you are invested in the series. Game play I still prefer ME:1 over all.. more RPG like, less FPS like, but it's still good... and they have certainly refined the FPS portion of it fairly well.
You don't know me. So to give you the benefit of the doubt, I will take your use of the word "ignorant" as very poor choice of term. So, please, refrain from using that word with me if you can.
And, please, learn to understand that others make choices that are not yours. That is all. It is my choice to game however I want to. I don't insult you because you make your own choices in gaming. I've been playing online multiplayers for years before you even knew the meaning.
I agree that was a poor way to end the game; and that being just an epilogue itself (with the true ending being also quite dissatisfying).
I do remember downloading that patch for Mass Effect 3. I guess I'll give the trilogy an honest try soon. I've been meaning to, but have been deterred by the prospect of a prolonged endeavor as it is with many an RPG (I try my best to keep it down to one RPG per month at the most ;)). Right now I'm playing Majora's Mask on the side, and it has taken me far longer than I thought it would. Before that it was Fallout 3 and New Vegas. I've been shooting for quickies on the side in the mean time. But I'll get to it soon I hope.
Sure, I don't know you. But not giving games a chance and instead bashing them out the gate sure it popular with gamers these days. So more often then not it's an educated guess on my part to assume ignorance.
Another thing that popular is; "Too many games. No time to replay what I've beat once. Time to move on!!" Which I'm really against. If you really love a game, no need to hurry away from it. Why I can't help but view gamers these days having access to too many games at once is a negative thing. (This also lead to what I wrote in first paragraph)
^ Just about every TV has an optical port these days. And since I now have a turtle beach headset that's compatible with PS3, 360 and PC. I now just plug the optical cord to the wireless headset into the TV so that I don't always have to switch optical ports each time I switch from PS3 to 360 to PC. Basically whatever I switch the TV too, it's what sound I'm getting in my headset. Simple.
And you can buy wifi ethernet thingies if you really want your 360 connected wireless. It's what my first X-Box came with when I bought it off my friend.
I didn't bash the game once. What are you talking about? You just jumped to conclusions on your own.
But I agree halfway with your second statement. A good game deserves a good chance and then some replay at that. Although I don't think you are giving that concept of "no time to replay" enough consideration. For some, it means they want to try more games on their bucket list. For me, at least, I play games to win. I don't just try them and put them back on the shelf. I give them an honest try and then some. Not necessarily getting all the trophies and whatnot; but an honest playthrough nonetheless from beginning to end (regardless of difficulty; lest it means I'd be getting any less of the story/experience). I see games as any other entertainment medium, and so I play them to appreciate the art form from beginning to end (like I would a movie or a song). So when I know games will take me longer than 15-30 dedicated hours to beat, I approach them with more caution and informed decision to play. And, yes, I have a great many other games I want to beat as well.
Howlongtobeat is a good website I follow before I start any of my gaming endeavors. It gives you a good idea of how long a game will take you to beat.
But theres barely any TVs that carry the 5.1 signal through the optical port, they all downgrade it to stereo.
The thing is, these "accessories" should've been included in the first place, like with the PS3. What they did with the 360, is a form of double-dipping.
Anyways, have any of you guys played The Witcher 2 on 360?
Yeah, my 52" Samsung HDTV has an optical port. The $2200 display outputs the sound using PCM (Pro-logic). It does not output 5.1 DTS. My PS3 has an optical port that I plug directly into my 5.1 DTS tuner in the living room. My movies and games are all in 5.1 DTS on my PS3 and PS4, while my 360 is outputting Dolby Pro-logic through the display.
The Ethernet ports on both of my 360 consoles were fried, when my router bit the dust during a thunder storm. I had to pay $60 for a used wifi adapter for my 360. Such a ripoff!Quote:

It's a fact that the co-op multiplayer for ME3 borrowed heavily from the horde co-op from Gears of War 2. I already have a pretty good idea of what ME3 co-op is. I found the horde co-op in GW2 to be quite boring. The addition of stuff that you'll often find in real online multi-player FPS, but with drones, makes it an instant fail. The fact that you have to spend over a 1000 hours just to get anywhere near the top suggests to me that it was poorly designed. Most online FPS gamers lose interest after several 100 hours, so the idea that over 1000 hours is required to get near the top suggest to me that they had no idea how to design the online element right. They were pretty much fishing players to pay for upgrades.
I've never heard of ME3 online as being the best of the best. If it was really that great, ME3 would have sold 26 million copies, like COD Black Ops did.

Am I the only person that thought Mass Effect was shit? Like I actually really like Bioware games for the most part and Mass Effect just seemed awfully clunky and horrible to play.
inb4 someone tells me to play it for the story
I'm sure there are others. I loved the gameplay in the first. Yes it could use some refinements. If it had the level of polish ME3 had while still keeping the overall ME1 systems I would have loved it.
But other than that... it's just not your cup of tea, no problems there. It's worth giving a shot, but if you just can't enjoy it, then that's just how it is.
